Vera Yves was stunned for a mont.

"Vera?"

Zoe Monroe’s voice pulled her thoughts back. Vera politely said, "Zoe, I have so things to do, I can’t go with you."

"What could be more important than picking up my cousin from the airport?" Zoe instantly deflated like a balloon.

"Help say hi to Miles."

"I don’t want to!" Zoe huffed, "You should call him yourself and tell him why you can’t co, see if he’ll forgive you for being heartless."

Zoe hung up the phone, and Vera was silent for a mont, then she pulled out Miles Monroe’s number.

After a long mont, she leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes. Long ago, in her most helpless tis, she had dialed this number again and again, but no one ever answered.

Later, she received a cold ssage — I’m busy, I’ll call you back later.

Since then, she never had the courage to dial that number again, like it was a curse.

Throwing the phone aside, Vera started the car and arrived at the clinic.

She sorted through the prescriptions of several patients her grandfather had issues with. The prescriptions were all for regular dication. She also reviewed the patients’ dical records and compared them to their tis of death, all within three months of taking the dicine.

If they had taken the dicine according to her grandfather’s formulas, the worst result would have been no effect at all, so how could it have accelerated their deaths? Moreover, these people had one thing in common: they only had prescriptions from her grandfather once or twice.

...

In an abandoned factory in the suburbs.

Luke Shaw was tied to a chair, opposite to him sat Winston Valentine. When Luke saw him, he was so scared that he tried to retreat, but the two thugs behind him imdiately held his chair down.

"Winston Valentine, my dad has already negotiated terms with your uncle so I could co out! The Valentine Family can’t go back on their word! If you dare lay a hand on in private, I’ll..."

"You’ll what?"

Luke was already beaten into submission, crying as he said, "President Valentine, I really didn’t do anything to Cecilia Vaughn! Please, just spare !"

"I’ll give you one last chance," Winston looked at him coldly, "If you lie again this ti, I’ll leave your body to rot in the wilderness!"

"President Valentine, I’ve told you everything I know..." eting the man’s icy gaze, Luke swallowed nervously, "told you everything."

Winston’s face darkened, he gave a signal with his eyes.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

A baseball bat landed on his body, Luke was in too much pain to speak before a plastic wrap was suddenly put over his head.

Luke began to struggle violently, just when he thought it was the end for him, the plastic wrap was removed.

Luke gasped for breath desperately. He had heard that Winston took Vera to find Simon Warren, it seed to be true.

Catching his breath, Luke hastily said, "I did use Simon Warren’s business card to exchange for an invitation from Mrs. Valentine."

Winston looked at him coldly, "Why did you lie in the detention center?"

"It was Cecilia!"

Luke took a breath and continued, "That day I went to find Cecilia, I really wanted to talk about getting back together, who knew she’d imdiately ask to take her to a hotel... Later, she backed out, I felt played by her and hit her a few tis!"

Winston’s face darkened.

Luke was once again covered with the plastic wrap, this ti he completely lost his temper.

When the plastic wrap was removed, he was already on the verge of death, "Later... after I was in the detention center, the reason I said those things was because Cecilia promised that as long as I pinned the bla on Vera, she would definitely not let go to prison."

Winston stood up and kicked him to the ground.

Luke pleaded repeatedly, "President Valentine, this is the truth! I didn’t lie to you at all! Please stop hitting !"

...

Winston hadn’t co back last night, and Vera went to the clinic early in the morning. She sorted through all the patient information again, and it was already past ten o’clock.

She leaned back in her chair, idly scrolling through social dia.

Zoe posted a photo half an hour ago with the caption — "My handso and charming cousin is back!"

In the photo, surrounded by flowers, was a man in casual clothes, sporting a smiling profile as warm and sunny as she’d rembered.

Vera snapped out of it, tossed her phone aside, and continued working. There was a lot of data to handle, and ti flew by as she organized it.

The room suddenly brightened.

Vera looked up to see Winston standing by the table. Outside, it had sohow turned dark.

"Co with to a place," Winston tried to take her hand.

Vera evaded him, stood up, and grabbed the coat beside her, "I’m eting Linda."

"Cancel it."

Listening to his commanding tone, Vera felt a bit angry, her attitude cold, "If you promise not to see Cecilia Vaughn again in the future, I’ll cancel it."

"Jealous?"

Vera laughed at herself, "What right do I have to be jealous? But, everything has a limit, I’m your wife. You go to the hospital every day to dote on another woman, and it humiliates . If you’re not planning on getting a divorce, then you need to show at least the basic respect!"

Winston was silent for a mont, "I promise you, I won’t go to the hospital to see her anymore."

Vera was taken aback for a mont, not expecting him to agree so readily.

Winston had already stepped forward and took her hand, "Tonight there’s a high school reunion, co with ."

Vera was even more surprised. In their three years of marriage, he had never officially introduced her to any of his friends.

She didn’t want to play along, her voice was indifferent, "I’m not familiar with your classmates, why should I go?"

Winston listened to her words, gave her a aningful look, "There aren’t many people."

Vera went back to the villa to change clothes, and then went with Winston to The Gilded Age. When they arrived at the restaurant’s private room, a few people were already there, both n and won, all notable figures in Imperia.

The crowd looked slightly surprised to see Vera. Winston calmly introduced her to everyone.

Vera could only smile and greet people. Just as she finished greeting, and was about to breathe a sigh of relief, the door of the private room was pushed open.

"Sorry, there was a bit of traffic."

A man with a tall figure wearing a high-end custom dark blue coat and a black turtleneck shirt underneath walked in. He was refined and handso, his voice gentle with a hint of apology.

Hearing the familiar yet slightly unfamiliar voice, Vera forgot to breathe for a mont. It wasn’t until Winston held her hand and whispered into her ear, "This one, I don’t need to introduce him to you, do I?"

Vera seed to snap back to reality at that mont. She looked at Winston in confusion. Were they high school classmates?

Winston seed to notice the confusion in her eyes, and affectionately pinched her cheek, "Mrs. Valentine, you do forget things easily, don’t you?"

Yet, there was not a trace of a smile in his eyes.

Vera rubbed her cheek, how could she not rember?

The man pulled open the chair next to her.

"You little thing, you don’t even want to say hi when you see ?" Miles Monroe took off his coat, handed it to the waiter, and naturally sat beside Vera, bringing a touch of coldness with him.

His gaze fell on Winston, and as their eyes t in the air, neither seed inclined to acknowledge the other.

Vera took a deep breath, adjusted her breathing, and smiled at Miles, "Miles, long ti no see."

Miles leaned in closer, his eyes gentle, "Such a forced smile, are you still holding a grudge against ?"
