Vera looked at her in confusion, "What do you an?"

"Do you think everything is just a coincidence?" Rae glared at her with resentnt, "Vera, why are you so dumb, yet everyone treats you so well? You’re just born better off than !"

"Were those two people acting on your orders?"

"Otherwise, why do you think I’m here?" Rae lost her patience; she had been involved in several fraud cases before, and now it all had co to light, punished for multiple cris, spending the best years of her life in prison.

And it was surely all Winston’s doing.

"Why?"

Rae sneered, "Why? I wanted money."

"Tristan should have known from the start that you weren’t his daughter. Since he let you act with Cleo Sutton, he wouldn’t treat you badly."

"He did know from the beginning, but he didn’t even bother to act with ." Rae’s eyes were sarcastic, "Did you co looking for because of Cleo Sutton?"

Vera did not deny it.

Rae stood up, "Then just tell her I’m dead."

Vera naturally wouldn’t pass those words to Cleo, but it seed Cleo was already suspicious about Rae’s whereabouts.

Vera returned to the clinic and saw Winston standing outside the door. He was wearing a dark blue coat, making his face look very pale.

"It’s not your day to see patients today."

"These past few days, for so reason, the wound on my head keeps hurting."

Vera led him into the clinic.

Winston followed her into the consultation room, his gaze sweeping over the photo fra hung back on the wall, "Wasn’t it taken down before? Why did you decide to hang it up again?"

Vera glanced at the fra too, "The glass was fixed, so I hung it back up."

Vera put on dical gloves and checked the wound on the back of Winston’s head, pressing in one spot, "Does it hurt here?"

"Yes."

Vera tried another spot, "How about here?"

"Yes."

"Does it always hurt, or does it hurt occasionally? To what extent does it hurt, can you bear it?"

Winston looked at her seriously, "Whenever I think of you, the wound hurts."

Vera paused her movents and withdrew her hand, saying expressionlessly, "I can’t treat your pain."

"It’s because of you that it hurts, so only you can treat it."

Vera removed her gloves and was silent for a mont, "Winston, I went to see Rae today. Why did you get hurt back then?"

Winston leaned back in the chair, indifferent, "Didn’t the police tell you how it happened?"

"Did you know long ago that Rae ant harm to ?"

"Not exactly. She carried the title of Tristan’s illegitimate daughter, so I naturally paid her extra attention." Winston calmly said, "Later, I found out she had been involved in fraud cases before, so I was cautious of her. There weren’t many people around her capable of making money, and you were the easiest target."

Vera frowned, clearly having issues with his explanation, suddenly thinking of sothing, "Did you know she wasn’t your half-sister?"

Winston’s gaze fell on her little face, sowhat awkward, "I knew from the beginning she wasn’t Cleo Sutton’s daughter."

Vera belatedly realized, "So you suddenly moved next to at that ti because you knew she might harm ?"

"Miles couldn’t even match , how could I trust him to protect you?"

Initially, he thought Rae would at most deceive Vera out of money. Moving next to her was just to get close, who knew Rae would resort to murder to silence her.

"Why?"

Winston looked into her eyes, "A man willing to risk his life for a woman, why do you think?"

Vera avoided his gaze.

"Vera, I never touched Cecilia, from the beginning to the end, I’ve only had you." Winston’s voice was faint, "I’m not dirty, so can you try to accept again?"

Vera was sowhat surprised, not expecting the man who was always so high and mighty would one day use such a humble look to say such words to her.

Vera remained calm, "Regardless if you touched her or not, the fact remains you hurt for her, and besides, I stopped liking you long ago."

"Vera, did you really ever like ?" Winston looked at her cold deanor, smirking self-deprecatingly, "We were married for over three years, and you never looked at the way you looked at him."

Vera got sowhat angry, "If I didn’t like you, do you think I would let you touch ?"

Winston said quietly, "You simply couldn’t resist."

Vera’s cheeks turned slightly red, "If you’re interested in being a rapist, I’m not interested in being a victim! I admit at first I was resistant, but later on, I was willing."

"Then, are you still willing now?"

Vera glared at him; Winston moved closer to her, his gaze falling on her rosy lips.

Vera angrily pushed him; Winston grabbed her hand, kissed it gently at the fingertips, and looked at her with affectionate eyes.

This version of Winston was strange and dangerous to Vera.

Feeling burnt, Vera pulled her hand back, stood up, "Not willing! I have work to do, please leave!"

"I’m too dizzy to move." Winston sat in the chair, looking pale at her.

Vera knew he was being stubborn, frustrated yet helpless, giving in because he got hurt saving her.

Winston lay on the single bed next to them; Vera usually took naps here—the bed still held her scent.

Unable to help himself, Winston buried his head in the pillow and sniffed.

Vera noticed his action, her cheeks instantly turning red, "Winston, are you a pervert?"

Winston looked calm, "You’ve seen worse."

Vera ignored him and continued her notes.

Winston’s eyes landed on the photo fra on the wall; the picture was really annoying.

Hannah ca to deliver lunch to Vera, surprised to see the man lying on the bed, thinking her eyes were deceiving her.

She looked at Vera, questioning with her eyes: Why is he here?

Vera gestured to her head, answering with her eyes: He has a problem in his head, ca for a check-up.

"Well, isn’t this President Valentine?" Hannah smilingly looked at Winston, "Got dumped and ca to think of our Vera?"

Winston stood up, politely looked at Hannah, "I’ve always been thinking of her."

Vera glared at him irritably.

Hannah was stunned for a mont by his words, "What took you so long? Now you co here to make ands, too late! A good horse doesn’t eat back grass, let alone grass that’s been dumped! Don’t keep pestering Vera, it’s annoying!"

Winston didn’t respond. His already pale face turned even paler, despite his tall and large fra giving off a peculiar sense of fragility, as if he might collapse any mont.

For a mont, Hannah regretted if she’d spoken too harshly.

Winston left without a word.

Hannah snapped back, huffed, and sternly advised Vera, "I’m telling you, stay away from anyone with the last na Monroe or Valentine!"

After the mother and daughter finished their al, Hannah packed the lunch boxes and left.

As she stepped outside, she encountered a black Bentley parked at the clinic’s entrance; the driver eagerly opened the car door, and Tristan Valentine stepped out.
