"Vera!"

Miles heard the commotion and quickly ca over. Penelope Langley looked sowhat embarrassed but soon regained her composure and followed him out.

Vera Yves grabbed a coat nearby, "Miles, I just rembered there are so docunts I haven’t sorted yet. I’m leaving now. Could you please tidy up the things yourself?"

"Vera." Miles blocked her path and looked at Penelope Langley, "Mom, Vera and I are dating normally. Whatever happens between us is perfectly normal, you have no right to interfere. And... as long as Vera is willing, I can marry her anyti."

"Are you trying to kill with anger?" Penelope turned to Vera, "Vera Yves, I ask you, did you promise once that you wouldn’t be with my son?"

"I’m sorry, at that ti, I really didn’t plan to be with him."

"I was the one who pursued Vera, I wanted to be with her." Miles held Vera’s hand tightly, "If you still want to acknowledge as your son, don’t interfere in our matters anymore! Vera is definitely not how you perceive her! In the future, I don’t want to hear any words defaming her from your mouth again!"

"You really are my good son!" Penelope glanced angrily at him and then at Vera, before taking a coat and leaving.

Vera ca to her senses, "Miles, you should go and see Aunt Lana off first."

"Vera, I’m sorry, I didn’t handle these things well."

Vera shook her head, "Since I decided to be with you, I knew I would face such things, but... the person involved was Aunt Lana... I was montarily..."

Miles embraced her, "I know, I understand."

The two cleaned up the remnants of the teacups and teapot, and Miles took Vera back to her apartnt. He touched Vera’s forehead, which was still slightly warm, so he stayed by her bedside all night.

The next morning, as he went out to buy breakfast, he encountered Winston Valentine standing by the window at the apartnt entrance, a pile of cigarette butts scattered at his feet.

Seeing Miles erging from Vera’s apartnt, Winston’s gaze grew darker.

Miles said coldly, "Mr. Valentine, please have so civic sense; smoking in public and littering is quite uncultured. I think I need to find a different apartnt for Vera."

Winston moved his legs which were sowhat stiff, "Miles Monroe, you’re just relying on the fact that she used to like you for many years!"

"Allow to correct you." Miles looked at him coldly, "It’s not just used to like for many years; now, and in the future, she’ll continue to like . Whereas you... are rely a small, negligible interlude in her life."

Suddenly Winston rushed over and grabbed Miles by the collar, "You’re unclear with Jane Shea, are you worthy of her affection? Are you?"

Miles removed his hand, "Whether I’m worthy or not isn’t for you to judge."

The elevator doors opened, and Miles walked inside.

Winston stood there, freezing, thinking to himself, how could he be rely an interlude!

Vera, half-asleep, heard the doorbell and, finding no trace of Miles in the room, thought he had forgotten his keys.

Vera donned a coat and went to open the door wearing slippers.

She realized at the mont of opening the door that he knew the lock password, but it was too late to close it.

The man outside had already walked in forcefully.

"Winston Valentine?" Vera’s mind suddenly cleared, "What are you doing here? Please leave imdiately!"

"Disappointed it’s not Miles instead?" Winston looked at her flushed cheeks, a redness he had often seen before.

Thinking about what they might have done last night or even before Miles left, Winston’s face gradually darkened.

Seeing his somber expression, Vera instinctively backed away, and Winston pulled her over with a swift motion.

"Bang!" The door was slamd shut.

"Winston Valentine, let go of !"

Winston pushed her against the door, looking at her sowhat dry lips, "Vera, I want you to break up with him, right now!"

Vera gave him a look as if he were insane, "Impossible! Who do you think you are? Who I’m with is my freedom! What right do you have to interfere?"

"Fine, then I’ll bankrupt The Yves Family! Make your parents pay the price for your love!"

"Winston Valentine, on what grounds? You were the one who betrayed our marriage first! Now you want to strip away my happiness..."

As he leaned in closer, Vera turned her head aside, and his lips landed on the corner of her mouth.

Winston grabbed her face, "So, because Miles kissed you, I can’t?"

"He is my boyfriend; I can do anything with him! And you, what are you?" Vera looked at him angrily, "A rogue? Winston Valentine, can you have so sha!"

Seeing her angry expression, Winston slowly regained his lost rationality.

"What’s so good about him? He can’t even let go of his ex-girlfriend!" Winston gazed at her with a voice full of pain, "Break up with him, we can remarry, I promise I’ll treat you well in the future."

"What do you take for? You divorce when you want, and remarry when you wish! Winston Valentine, I am not your toy; I have my own thoughts and feelings!"

"What if I say I’ve fallen for you?"

Vera looked at him, mocked him with a smile, "Winston Valentine, do you know what love is? Are you entitled to speak of love?"

Winston’s face turned pale bit by bit.

Watching him leave the room, Vera forcefully slamd the door shut.

She tightened the coat around her but still felt cold all over.

Miles returned with breakfast, saw her sitting in the living room, and went over to touch her forehead, finally bringing Vera back to her senses.

"Why did you co out?"

Vera instinctively hugged him, "I couldn’t sleep."

Miles hugged her back, "Then don’t sleep."

"Miles, can you promise not to see Jane Shea again in the future? I don’t want you eting her!"

Miles gently rubbed the top of her head, "Vera, I promise you, I’ll try not to see her in the future."

Not try, you must not!

After breakfast together, Miles went to the law firm.

At noon, suddenly rumors about Jane Shea appeared online again. Vera didn’t want to click them, but Linda Young’s call ca in, "What’s Miles doing?"

Vera frowned, Linda angrily asked, "Hasn’t he already been with you? Why is he still with Jane Shea at a hotel?"

Vera had no choice but to open the post, realizing the dia had taken shots of Miles carrying Jane Shea downstairs that night, deliberately reversing the sequence to make it look like the two attended an event then went upstairs to book a room.

"I was there too, it’s a misunderstanding." Vera explained calmly.

Linda finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Even if it’s a misunderstanding, he really shouldn’t be entangled with an ex-girlfriend like this."

The post was quickly retracted, but nurous rumors about the two kept appearing on the trending list, with even mutual friends coming out to reveal details of their past relationship.

It wasn’t until Miles’s law firm issued a lawyer’s letter that those endless rumors finally quieted down.

anwhile, Penelope Langley sent Vera an invitation to a charity gala she was hosting. The word was spreading in circles that The Monroe Family intended to recognize Vera as the prospective daughter-in-law.
