Madeleine deliberately emphasized the words “brother and sister” because she wanted Howard Coleman to know that what she was doing was the sa as him, rely bearing in mind the affection of growing up together from childhood, and nothing more.
It was truly sad. She had never imagined that her love for him would one day reach the point where she had to desperately make him feel that she didn’t love him.
Madeleine lowered her head, blinked her eyes, then turned away, continuing to face away from Howard.

As the car neared Madeleine’s apartnt, Howard, looking through the car window, saw a shop that specialized in late-night snacks. He rembered that Madeleine had hardly eaten anything at the dinner, hesitated for a mont, and then instructed the driver to stop the car.
Madeleine, who had been staring out the window in a daze, noticed the car stop and turned her head, looking at Howard with so confusion.

After saying these words, Howard realized how familiar they sounded. He was stunned for a while before rembering that these were the exact words Madeleine had used the first ti she asked him if he wanted so late-night snacks.
At that ti, he didn’t think much about it, naively assuming that she was just trying to reconcile their relationship, offering snacks as a gesture of goodwill.

Madeleine knew in her heart that Howard’s words might not have had any other aning, but she still couldn’t help feeling so joy inside.
She was always so pathetic. His casual words might have had no concern for her, but as long as she could imagine that he cared, she would be satisfied.
This man was the one she deeply loved; the closer she was to him, the more she pretended not to love him, and the more miserable she beca.
Yet, before she could even voice her rejection, she had already nodded her head.

The late-night snack shop was sowhat crowded, and Howard stood at the entrance looking around before finding an empty spot. After seating Madeleine, he went to the front to order food.
Despite the crowd, the dishes were served quickly. In the sautéed lamb with scallion that Howard ordered, they had mistakenly added onions, which Madeleine detested eating.
So much so that she couldn’t even bear to look at them on the dining table.
Therefore, as soon as the dish was placed on the table by the waiter, Howard imdiately spoke up, signaling for the waiter to take it away and throw it out.
