Chapter 890: Chapter 890 The One He Loves is Back (Part 4)_1
Pristine’s Enterprises had a regular eting every Friday afternoon.
The content of the eting was mostly managers from various departnts reporting on the recent progress of their work.
By the ti the reports from several departnts were complete, two hours had passed.
Steve Burton gave a brief summary of the eting, signaled to Rusell Henris, Edward Woods, and Howard Coleman to stay behind, and then dismissed everyone else.
As soon as the eting was adjourned, Rusell Henris imdiately opened his laptop and began to work rapidly.
Edward Woods lay sprawled lazily across the table, staring at Rusell Henris, who continued to type away, and then twisted his head to look at Steve Burton, who had asked them to stay but hadn’t spoken yet, “Brother, you didn’t ask us to stay just to sit here doing nothing, did you?”
Steve Burton ignored Edward Woods and simply took a few docunts passed to him by Ms. Taylor, scanned them quickly, and then continued to add so notes for her. After Ms. Taylor left, Steve Burton sat up straight, looked at Howard Coleman, who had been staring out the window, and then cleared his throat.
Howard Coleman returned his gaze upon hearing Steve Burton’s voice.
Steve Burton then began to speak calmly, “Madeleine will arrive at Ciawell Airport tomorrow morning at ten o’clock.”
This light remark from Steve Burton caused the atmosphere in the conference room to freeze for a mont; Rusell Henris’s hands, which had been typing quickly, abruptly stopped as if he had thought of sothing, and then he said, “It’s been three and a half years already, Madeleine actually rembers to co back.”
Edward Woods picked up the conversation, “Madeleine really is heartless, not only did she leave for a project in France without a word, but she doesn’t even answer calls. We call all the way to France, and she’s either in a eting or not in the office. Even when we go to France to see her, she’s either gone to Costa Luna or on a business trip. In short… she’s completely heartless!”
Howard Coleman sat to the side, appearing calm, as if the person Steve Burton ntioned had nothing to do with him, but nobody knew that he felt as if soone was choking him, unable to breathe.
After Edward Woods finished venting, Steve Burton passed on the instructions he had been carefully entrusted with by his beloved wife, Ruby Gregory, “We haven’t seen Madeleine in a long ti, so Rusell, you prepare a farewell dinner for her tomorrow night. Edward, you don’t need to co to the office tomorrow morning, just go to the airport to pick up Madeleine.”
“Didn’t Howard always use to pick up Madeleine when she returned from a trip? Why is it my turn now…” Edward Woods, tasked with picking up Madeleine, blurted out before he could think it through.
But before he could finish his sentence, he was sharply kicked under the table by Rusell Henris; Edward Woods let out a low cry and then, as if he had suddenly rembered sothing, awkwardly shut his mouth, no longer objecting, “Alright, I’ll go.”
The conference room grew quiet for a long while until Steve Burton lowered his eyelids slightly, his voice still cool and collected, “That settles it then. Rusell, after you’ve booked the place for tomorrow, rember to inform everyone. If there’s nothing else, you can all leave.”
After finishing speaking, Steve Burton saw that the three of them had no particular reaction, then picked up the docunts on the table and strode out of the conference room with long steps.
Edward Woods’s slip of the tongue had stirred up the past events involving Howard Coleman and Madeleine that they never talked about, creating a sowhat awkward situation. Thus, as soon as Steve Burton left the room, Edward quickly followed, clutching his docunts and darting out of the conference room.
