It was unbelievable.
I was staring right at him, but my mind was refusing to accept it.
No, my pupils shook as I watched him.
Really? He's really right in front of ?
"You," I was at a loss for words but other than , the whole place went quiet, "What are you-" My heart was pounding and my breathing started to get heavy, "You, how?" I was so confused, the words weren't even coming out right.
All eyes were on us but while I was panicking, Hael took his seat on the stool, crossed his legs over the other and leisurely looked at as he leaned his face on his palm. A sly smile was plastered on his face as he kept his eyes on .
"Isn't that a mage?" The people whispered.
"He looks familiar,"
"I know right, I feel like I've seen him sowhere."
"Should we ask?"
"That was so high grade magic, did he co from the magic tower?"
"I know him, he's the master of the magic tower."
And that statent was followed by gasps. I gulped. I wasn't sure what to say or do with so many eyes on us. I couldn't risk saying anything that would put at the risk of being exposed.
"Really? Is it really him?"
"I just saw him yesterday! Didn't you see him in the carriage of high mages?"
"Oh! My! God!" People eyed us. Everyone was curious and I knew why. Mine was a small cafe, it was ant to be a friendly neighborhood place for people to hangout and enjoy.
Why would the Tower Master be here?
"You shattered the window?" I asked, keeping my eyes on Hael. It was the only thing I could say that wouldn't sound very suspicious.
"Well, I repaired it too, didn't I?" He kept his smile on. His elbow rested on the counter and he tapped his finger on his cheek, the sa hand in which his cheek was resting, as he waited.
"Soone could have gotten hurt," I replied.
"But did anyone?" His answer pissed off.
I stared back at him. I wanted to ask him stuff but I was afraid that the people were staring too much and soone in the crowd might catch on that there's history between us. It may already be obvious that we have t before, since he already said he 'missed ' but I don't want the context elaborated.
"Heeeyy~" Aira ca out of the kitchen, "Don't be surprised everyone, he's a custor like all of you," She stood by Hael's side and looked at the other custors, "It's rude to stare!"
Honestly, Aira is my smartest employee and this was the mont I was most grateful for employing her. Hael didn't bother to look at her, but I did.
Her words had an impact on the people. A realization hit them and they all turned to mind their own business. The chitter chatter in the cafe started once again but of course, it didn't stop the people from looking at Hael every once in a while.
"Thank you, Aira," I said and she smiled at . She didn't have ti to waste, so she ran back in the kitchen to help the chef and I looked at Hael again, "What are you doing here?" I kept my voice low so that no one would hear us.
"Why else would I be here but for you?" He replied
"Hael," I wanted to say sothing but I couldn't find the words. I paused, "..." What did I want to say to him? I wanted him to leave, but would he leave? How did he find ? Did he really see from his carriage?
His smile didn't fade. He kept looking at , and while I was lost in thought, he waited. I contemplated between asking him how he found or to ask him to leave and I was taking a bit too much ti.
...
...
I kept thinking about it. In fact, I was taking so much ti, so of the custors glanced at in concern. But I was lost. Didn't I leave all of my past behind? I thought I wouldn't have to et anyone from there ever again. Well, the rest of them are dead after all.
Everyone except Hael and I
...
...
Hael decided to talk first, "Do you know what gave you away?" I raised my head and glared at him while he pointed at my foot, "Your limp" He didn't wait for to think again, he just outright gave the answer.
!!!
"What?" It hit hard. My eyes went wide, then I frowned, "Did you see yesterday?"
His smile widened, "Did you think I could ever miss you?"
"Yes," I replied, "I went by just fine for two years," I balled my fists, "You didn't find for two years,"
"Quite impressive," He replied softly, "I can't believe I missed you when you're living in the sa city as I am,"
That was my aim. Be right under his nose, a place to least expect soone. The mages of the magic tower live in the second largest city of the kingdom. While the temple and the Royal palace are in the capitol.
"There are thousands of girls with black hair, black eyes, less if you count them selling gems. A lot of people do that too. I had so many people on the lookout for people like you, but I still couldn't find you." He smiled, "But soone who also limps." He smirked, "I had to take my chances the most I caught sight of you," He glanced at my hair, "The hair color change was a wise idea though."
I frowned.
I didn't think he'd co looking for . How stupid of . I should have known that the silver butterfly was from him. I just refused to accept that he saw and so I didn't even think about it.
I hid my limp for all the other people aside from the people in the mansion for this exact reason. I feared soone might notice.
I never thought he'd want to find . He has no reason to
Unless
A swirl of anxiety crept around my chest.
"Why are you here?" I asked again, this ti more grimly, "You have no reason to be here, unless you want to kill as well-"
"I'm not going to kill you," He answered before I could properly finish. His answer made frown. For him to answer this fast, it must an he's not lying.
But then why?
"Then why are you here?" My question was followed by silence. He thought about it as his gaze dropped to the counter.
...
"If you're not going to answer," I said, "Then you can leave-"
"Tea," He did answer but it looked it like an excuse,
"What?" I was confused
He looked at again, "To have so tea."
???
"What?" I shook my head, "What are you talking about?"
"I always served you tea." He passed a sly smile, "I wanted to have so from you." He shrugged, "It's simple. I would like so tea,"
"And why would I serve you tea?" I folded my arms.
He looked around, "Well, this is a cafe," He tilted his head, "I'm sure you have tea." His smile was pissing off. It gave him an impression of 'Mister know it all'
...
"Fine," I turned around to go and grab the tea pot, "But you leave after having tea."
He let out a snicker, "That's no way to treat your custors, My Lady."
I scoffed, rolling my eyes as I poured the hot water into a teapot. "You're not a custor, Hael."
"Then what am I?"
"You're an uninvited guest, that nobody wants here." I said, "You and I are strangers,"
"Hmm?" Hael leaned back a little, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He chuckled, undeterred by my obvious annoyance. "Ah, but isn't every stranger just a potential custor waiting to be won over?"
Rolling my eyes, I grabbed the tea pot and began to prepare his order, trying to ignore the way he seed to be thoroughly enjoying getting under my skin.
As I poured the hot water into his cup, he leaned back in, watching with a bemused expression. "You know, you're quite good at this," He comnted casually.
I shot him a skeptical look. "Flattery won't get you anywhere." I slamd the cup on the counter, "Your order," I passed it to him and he picked it up.
He grinned, taking a sip of his tea. "Who said I was trying to get anywhere? Sotis, it's just nice to enjoy a good cup of tea in the company of an interesting person." He took a whiff of the tea, "Who would have thought, we'd see a day like this," He glanced at , "A day where you'd serve ."
I rolled my eyes again, resisting the urge to pour the scalding tea over his head. "Don't push your luck," I warned, folding my arms across my chest, "I really don't want you here, Hael."
He sipped his tea, "Not bad,"
He was making angry, "Drink this and get out."
He took another sip from his cup, slowly, his eyes on as he did it. And even when he sipped, I could see that grin of his. He took a slow long sip, then brought the cup down, "I'll think about it."
My mouth hung open, "What? Aren't you leaving?"
"I was just thinking." He ignored my question again.
"What?" I said, annoyed.
"You're quite cruel, My lady." He brought the cup down from his lips.
I stared at him, "What?" I shook my head.
"You used my body and then abandoned ." He said it right when the place went quiet.
