Chapter 422: Chapter 422 We will be able to leave this ghost place soon
“You…” Qi Yu was rendered speechless by her question, choking up montarily.
Yin Wanning, however, did not continue and instead asked, “Have you found the person you were looking for?”
Qi Yu had long thrown that matter to the back of her mind and didn’t expect that Yin Wanning would rember. She hurriedly said, “It’s alright, I know where this person is. It’s not urgent at this mont.”
Yin Wanning nodded, saying nothing more.
She did not ask whom Qi Yu was looking for, nor why she ca to her room in search of that person.
Qi Yu pursed her lips, also finding it difficult to say too much.
After a while of silence between them, Qi Yu finally said, “Then I should take my leave.”
Yin Wanning, sitting by the bedside, heard this and looked up at her, “There are guards outside the door.”
Qi Yu shrugged, “No matter, they can’t catch .”
With that, she made her way to the back door and stealthily left under the cover of night.
But what she didn’t realize was that all of this was clearly seen by a Hidden Guard lurking in the shadows.
In the study, the Hidden Guard reported the matter to Cang Ming.
Upon hearing that an unfamiliar woman erged from Yin Wanning’s room, Cang Ming frowned and asked, “Who?”
The Hidden Guard bowed his head, admitting fault, “This subordinate is incompetent; I did not recognize the person.”
He recognized everyone in the mansion, but this face was one he had never seen before.
Cang Ming knew the Hidden Guard wouldn’t lie to him, and his suspicion deepened.
There were Hidden Guards watching over every part of the mansion, so how did this woman manage to sneak in?
Cang Ming’s eyes flashed with a hint of cold intent, “Continue to investigate.”
The Hidden Guard responded, “Yes.”
After speaking and pausing for a while, seeing that Cang Ming had no further orders, he quietly withdrew.
But just as he was turning around, he heard Cang Ming’s cold voice say, “Summon La Yan to see .”
A mont later, La Yan hurried in.
As soon as he entered and before he could bow, Cang Ming interrupted him. So, La Yan just stood there and asked, “May I know what orders you have, Your Highness?”
Cang Ming glanced at him and said calmly, “Find a way to have Zhao Qingrou executed.”
La Yan’s pupils shook, “Why?”
After all, Zhao Qingrou was a concubine personally chosen by the Empress herself. Even if His Highness didn’t like her, there was no need to have her executed.
Cang Ming’s gaze swept over him lightly, “Since when do I need to explain my actions to you?”
La Yan felt a chill from his cold deanor, stiffening. He quickly lowered his head and said, “This subordinate was presumptuous. I beg your forgiveness, Your Highness.”
Cang Ming’s long black hair, simply tied back and lit by the soft candlelight, seed to soften his harsh edges.
But the coldness in his eyes did not lessen. He took the white porcelain bottle beside him and handed it to La Yan, “This is the reason.”
La Yan took it, opened it to look inside, and found it contained so white powder.
With his extensive knowledge, he recognized at once that it was poison.
“I didn’t expect Zhao Qingrou to act so rashly.” La Yan imdiately realised this must have been found on Zhao Qingrou.
And it was blatantly obvious whom she intended to poison.
Cang Ming scoffed, “Just a fool; her death is of no consequence.”
La Yan tucked the bottle into his chest, his expression becoming somber, “But Zhao Qingrou is after all from the Zhao Family. If her death is so sudden and unclear…”
Cang Ming raised his hand to interrupt, “What about the Zhao Family?”
La Yan caught the hint of contempt in his gaze, and his heart trembled slightly.
It seed that this ti, His Highness was determined to kill Zhao Qingrou.
“This subordinate understands,” La Yan replied, and after leaving the study, he imdiately set about arranging the matter.
A few days later, the news of Zhao Qingrou’s suicide spread throughout the entire Imperial City.
Qi Yu was gnawing on a piece of pastry she had taken from the kitchen, and when she heard this news, she was completely stunned. “Zhao Qingrou is dead!”
Li Mingjue raised his hand to wipe away the crumbs at the corner of her mouth and said in a deep voice, “Yes, she was found by her personal maid to have hung herself early this morning.”
Clutching the remaining half of the pastry, Qi Yu suddenly lost her appetite and furrowed her brows. “How could Zhao Qingrou possibly hang herself? She must have been killed by soone.”
Li Mingjue did not deny her guess but nodded and added, “Indeed, it was Cang Ming’s doing.”
“What?” Qi Yu was even more perplexed. “Why would Cang Ming want to kill her?”
To him, Zhao Qingrou was nothing more than a pawn. Even if she was no longer useful, couldn’t she just be kept around as a decoration? Why go to such extre lengths to kill her?
Li Mingjue hadn’t been monitoring Cang Ming’s every move these past few days, but based on his understanding of the man, he could guess so of it, and he spoke with a slightly heavy tone: “Zhao Qingrou had to die.”
Rembering the fact that Zhao Qingrou had been secretly poisoning Yin Wanning, Qi Yu suddenly understood and said with a sowhat helpless look, “Yes, she was clumsy in her actions. How could Cang Ming ever tolerate her?”
She thought, not only herself but also Yin Wanning had made the wrong guess.
The poisoning by Zhao Qingrou was not sothing Cang Ming had silently approved of.
Cang Ming was just waiting for Zhao Qingrou to expose herself, then with that leverage, he could kill her and also shut up both the Zhao Family and the Empress.
Though that was the truth, to outsiders, the sudden suicide of a concubine would inevitably seem like she had suffered so injustice.
Qi Yu stuffed the pastry in her hand into her mouth in one go, swallowing it down as if it was tasteless wax. “Cang Ming did it on purpose.”
Just monts ago, she thought that perhaps Cang Ming really did have so genuine feelings.
But in an instant, she saw through him.
If he truly loved soone, how could he bear to continually push her into the eye of the storm?
Yin Wanning was right. Everything Cang Ming did seed to be for her protection, for her good, but in reality, it was all about controlling her.
He wanted to drive her into a corner and then wait for her to co begging to him in a low voice.
Qi Yu mocked herself with a twisted smile, “It seems I really thought too much of it. How could soone like Cang Ming have a heart?”
Even if he did, it would be nothing but ambition, not true affection.
“He really is sanctimonious, on one hand wanting to swallow up Luoyue Country, on the other hoping that Yin Wanning will be grateful to him and forever submit to him, clinging to him,” Qi Yu said with a bit of a headache.
Being targeted by soone like Cang Ming was certainly not a good thing.
After inwardly cursing Cang Ming, she said with a weary expression, “There’s less than half a month left now, and I still haven’t found Ning Yue.”
She had originally thought that Ning Yue was in the mansion, but after several days of searching, she found no one.
Although she knew Ning Yue would definitely disguise herself, no matter how one might change their appearance, mannerisms, and temperant are hard to alter.
“Could I have guessed wrong, and she didn’t co with us?” Qi Yu muttered to herself.
But Li Mingjue said, “No, you did not guess wrong, she is indeed in the mansion.”
Qi Yu looked at him with confusion, “How do you know?”
Li Mingjue smiled, “There’s one place you haven’t searched.”
Qi Yu thought for a mont and then her eyes suddenly lit up as she looked at him, “I did overlook one place.”
She had turned every corner of the mansion upside down, but there was indeed one place she had missed.
She had originally not thought that Ning Yue would hide in such a dangerous place, but sotis, the most dangerous place could be the safest.
Once she realized this, Qi Yu’s brows relaxed, and a glint flashed in her eyes. “It seems we’ll be leaving this godforsaken place soon.”
