"A mission," I cut in. "One where I brought everyone back alive."

The others shifted uncomfortably.

"But that doesn’t change the fact...."

"That I don’t have a wolf?" I finished for him.

"Yes."

I tilted my head to the side a little.

Studying him.

"You think that makes weak?"

"I think it limits your abilities."

He was honest again.

I respected that.

Even if I didn’t agree with his backward views.

"Then let ask you sothing," I said.

He waited silently for to speak.

"When the rogues attacked... did your wolf save you?"

There was a montary pause before he ca back to his senses.

"What?"

"Did your wolf make your decisions for you?" I continued. "Did it lead the group? Did it protect the injured?"

"No," I said softly. "You did."

His jaw tightened slightly.

"That’s not the sa thing."

"No," I agreed. "It’s not."

I stepped closer without any aggression.

"Because your wolf is a part of you," I said. "Not a replacent."

His eyes flickered.

"You rely on it," I continued. "But you still have to think, make choices, and act."

The silence this ti stretched much longer.

I know that it’s not everyone that was dissatisfied with . So people in the pack had other considerations.

Even if they didn’t want to admit it.

"I may not have a wolf," I said finally. "But I am not weak."

So of the warriors were part of the team I had led to the forest to rescue those missing pack mbers.

Therefore, they had no issue with my strength.

They had seen what I could do. I didn’t even hesitate when rogues attacked us.

I turned around about to leave when no one else spoke.

However, a voice not far from the warriors stopped in my tracks.

"Then prove it."

I turned around and saw Elder Marcus standing at the edge of the courtyard looking at with calculating eyes.

Even an idiot would know he was purposely targeting .

"What do you want?" I asked.

A faint smile touched his lips.

"We want to understand clearly what a Luna without a wolf can do for the pack."

I looked at him silently before speaking.

"What kind of understanding do you need?"

"The pack is questioning your position," he said. "And rightly so."

I didn’t respond.

"An unshifted Luna," he continued, "is unprecedented."

"And?"

"And it raises concerns."

"Your concerns are unnecessary."

I wondered why the elders were suddenly so interested in .

I couldn’t get it. Did it have anything to do with my father’s death?

Was it because I was too close to power that they were afraid I would find out sothing?

Still, nothing made sense.

"There will be a gathering," he said. "Before your eighteenth birthday."

My chest tightened slightly.

"Why?"

"To address this issue."

"This issue," I repeated.

"Yes."

My fingers curled slightly.

"What exactly do you expect from ?"

His eyes glead.

"Proof."

Of course.

"Of what?"

"That you are worthy of being Luna."

I had already gone into the feared forest outside of our borders to retrieve people and succeeded. Yet these people still won’t let this go.

For the first ti, I began seriously considering rejecting Mike.

If I reject him, he won’t be my mate and I won’t need unrelated people to constantly stick their nose in my business.

However, Lizzie wasn’t completely awake and I couldn’t shift freely.

Hell, I haven’t shifted since the first ti I got my wolf at thirteen.

Now that I needed strength to survive alone if I left the pack, Lizzie was crucial.

I took a deep breath and looked at elder Marcus, then I turned around to look at the faces of the other people around us.

Even without speaking, I could tell that they all wanted to prove myself as the elder requested.

However, how was I supposed to do that?

"Or?" I asked.

His smile didn’t waver.

"Or the council will reconsider your place in this pack."

That stung . Who exactly gave these elders such courage?

Even though I was only Luna in na, Mike as the alpha is still my mate. Why would the elder council feel that they have the authority to decide my fate?

Was this sothing Mike also wanted? Or did it have sothing to do with the forr alpha Demon.

I knew for sure that so people in the pack were out to get and no matter what I did, they would never let it go.

It doesn’t matter what kind of proof I provide, it will never be enough.

Not for people who had already decided who I was.

"You have three days," he added.

Then he turned and walked away.

I stood there for a long mont thinking about what the elder just said.

I had three days to prove sothing that could never be proven.

Mike! oh! Mike!

Your pack leadership sure knows how to trample on people.

There was no way I can prove myself without exposing Lizzie.

My chest suddenly tightened with pain. What was I supposed to do now?

I was feeling dejected and alone when a familiar voice echoed in my mind.

"Val."

I was surprised that Lizzie had appeared so soon again.

It seed that she wasn’t too far from waking up completely.

"Hello Lizzie, how are you?" I felt a warm sensation in my chest as I could finally talk to soone I could completely trust.

"They are pushing you too hard."

"I know."

"You can’t reveal ."

"I know."

I wondered why the council would push so much to see if I have a wolf.

Did it have sothing to do with the reason Lizzie won’t let reveal her existence?

If that’s the case, then I must hide her even more.

"Then what will you do?"

I exhaled slowly.

My mind was already racing.

"I’ll find another way," I said quietly.

Because I had to.

Because there was no other choice.

And certainly because I wasn’t going to lose everything I had just gained.

Not for them or anyone else.
