772: Chapter 772: Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place 772: Chapter 772: Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place “Catch him!” the white-haired old man shouted urgently, confirming Gu Fan’s intuition that his approach was right.
Without any hesitation, he stord onto the altar and kicked over a table scattering various sacrificial items all over.
The people of the mysterious ancient town scread in protest, their eyes wild as they seed desperate to kill Gu Fan who was clutching the table and bellowing, “Anyone who dares to co closer will not be treated politely.”
This threat proved effective.
The people of the ancient town hesitated, seemingly vulnerable now.
Although Gu Fan had stabilized the situation, his heart continued to pound.
He had no idea how to proceed.
He couldn’t just keep things at a deadlock indefinitely.
Gu Fan stole a glance at a nearby table, where Yang Xinran’s beautiful head sat.
But there was nothing beautiful about it now; instead, it made Gu Fan shudder.
“Listen, my request is simple: return these people’s heads, let us leave safely, and we’ll stay out of each other’s way,” Gu Fan put forward, thinking his conditions rather fair, though he suspected they wouldn’t be accepted imdiately.
Suddenly, Gu Fan sensed sothing was off.
The altar beneath him was now covered with blood that flowed from an unknown source.
“What’s going on?” Before Gu Fan could figure it out, the blood suddenly emitted a blinding radiance, temporarily blinding him.
The glowing blood transford into a red cloth, which started to wrap around him from his feet up, completely ensnaring him.
“Oh, no way!” Gu Fan struggled intensely but the red cloth only tightened around him, smothering him like a gigantic python.
In the end, Gu Fan fell to the ground, immobilized.
Yet, he still endeavored to roll over, but restlessly to no avail.
The people of the ancient town approached Gu Fan with malicious grins.
One of them said, “You brought this on yourself.
Don’t bla us.
Rest assured, the witchcraft we use won’t cause any pain.
Soon you will be just like them, sacrificing your head.”
“Screw you!
I won’t do it!” Gu Fan attempted to kick out, but found his legs securely tied.
One of the townsfolk pressed his hand to Gu Fan’s head, beginning to chant a spell.
Fear clouded Gu Fan’s heart.
He didn’t want to be separated from his head.
Just when it seed all hope was lost, Qian Ye stood up, shouting, “Wait a mont!
If I’m not mistaken, you’re cursed and trapped here, right?”
Upon hearing this, all of the people from the ancient town turned back, their faces clouded with displeasure.
“If you want to break the curse, I can help,” Qian Ye continued.
“I can set you free, but please, don’t harm him.”
The people of the ancient town were montarily thrown into confusion about considering Qian Ye’s proposal.
Seeing this, Gu Fan sighed with relief.
It seed Qian Ye was proving useful after all.
Qian Ye proceeded, and the people of the ancient town stepped aside, allowing her to move towards Gu Fan.
This raised Gu Fan’s suspicion – why were they letting Qian Ye approach him so easily?
Once she reached the altar, Qian Ye cast a spell causing the red cloth to loosen its grip on Gu Fan, who took a deep breath, having been in discomfort a mont ago.
Then, the white-haired elder asked grimly, “Are you telling the truth?
Can you really break the curse?”
Qian Ye nodded, but her face was full of reluctance.
“Yes, I can, but the problem is…”
“But what?” The townsfolk seed extrely impatient, almost confronting Qian Ye for answers.
“What’s going on?
What’s the problem?” asked Gu Fan.
Qian Ye exhaled and answered with a bitter grimace, “Breaking this curse would require a large consumption of my ntal strength.
It will impact greatly, and my supernatural power will significantly decrease.
Then, I won’t be able to face my enemies when I return to the past.”
This news brought Gu Fan’s spirit down.
He could not let Qian Ye make such a sacrifice, but there seed no other alternatives.
He looked around and saw the people from the ancient town surrounding him.
This was their turf, impossible to break out from.
The townsfolk seed impatient, pushing further: “What are you hesitating about?
Hurry up and break our curse, or don’t bla us for being rude.”
Gu Fan hesitated, unsure of what to do.
Qian Ye appeared thoughtful and suggested, “How about I use all my power to break the curse for you, then I’ll take a rest to regain my energy.
Only when I’m completely ready will I return to the past.”
It seed like a good plan, but Gu Fan was worried that if Qian Ye’s return was delayed, so too would be Lin Xi’s.
How would he explain that to Lin Xi, who must be bored and eagerly waiting for him to go back and pick her up in the past?
But the demanding gazes of the townsfolk reminded Gu Fan that he had limited choices.
“What should I do?
What should I do?” Gu Fan glanced back at the seven heads on the altar table, then at Qian Ye standing beside him, indecisiveness enveloping his heart.
The lead man of the ancient town, a white-haired elder, lost his patience and bellowed, “Aren’t you going to perform the spell?
Didn’t you say you can break the curse?
What are you waiting for?
Do you just want to play tricks on us?” As he spoke, the red cloth on the ground sprung back to life, rewrapping Gu Fan.
This ti it transford into a fiery snake, hissing and pressurizing Gu Fan.
Qian Ye tried to approach, but the fire snake opened its mouth wide, startling her pale.
She was unable to get any closer.
“It’s no use.
My powers can’t work on this altar.” Qian Ye appeared helpless and anxious.
She seed genuinely concerned for Gu Fan’s safety.
“Damn it, how could this be?” Gu Fan felt the fiery snake tightening its grip, as if it would crush his bones.
The sensation was unbearable.
The elderly leader snorted, “You are not keeping your promise, don’t bla us for not being polite.
Now, I will put your head on display.” Finishing his words, the elder took a threatening step forward, the rest of the townsfolk following suit.
Sensing their hostility, the pressure on Gu Fan increased exponentially.
He wondered if he should just give in.
Looking at Gu Fan’s despair, Qian Ye was delighted.
She believed if they pushed a little further, their plan would succeed.
Suddenly, a horrible scream sounded.
Several townsfolk near the periphery were sent flying.
It seed like soone powerful was fighting their way through.
