Chen Ke walked forward for a while, and looking down from the edge of the city wall, he could see one side of the stage, where Jenning was reading her speech, and the backstage crew were monitoring the sound system in real ti.
A guard nearby glanced at Chen Ke, seeming to notice sothing and started walking toward him.
Chen Ke didn’t want to get entangled with him, so he pretended not to see and turned to walk in the other direction, only to be surprised when the guard called out, "Hey!"
He stood still, scanning his surroundings—there weren’t many people on the wall yet, and no one had noticed this spot. If he was quick enough...quickly killing him and throwing his body down off the wall would likely go unnoticed.
"What?" Chen Ke shot back.
"Which group are you with?" the guard asked.
"I am... left on the wall," Chen Ke replied flippantly.
"Is that so? In that case, you don’t need to follow inside later. Hmm..." The guard seed to be muttering to himself, yet also appeared to be muttering in doubt.
Seeing his chance, Chen Ke thought to leave, but the guard suddenly grabbed his shoulder, and Chen Ke imdiately felt a surge of killing intent.
"Hold on, I need to follow inside later, can’t smoke inside..." the guard said.
"Oh?" Chen Ke was taken aback.
"Could I borrow a light... My lighter’s run out of fuel. I want to smoke a few on the wall..." the guard negotiated.
Chen Ke patted his pocket to indicate he also didn’t have a lighter.
"Ah... that’s a sha..." the guard shook his head.
"When do we go in?" Chen Ke probed.
"We’ll go in after the speech, then begin preparing for the commoration ceremony," the guard answered.
"Oh." Chen Ke nodded.
The guard turned and walked away, and Chen Ke took a deep breath, noticing six people sitting in a room below the floor at his feet.
He maneuvered around so boxes, stored his MP5 submachine gun in the Dinsion Pocket, and followed the narrow staircase down to the second level of the interior passage inside the city wall, finding the small room.
A series of cables ran out from the doorway, and on the stool at the entrance sat another guard in a black suit, holding the sa model MP5 as Chen Ke.
The guards on this island all used this compact HK-MP5 submachine gun, but it was fitted with a black hand-guard and a red dot sight on top, and it looked as if it hadn’t been modified with Spiritual Energy either, using regular bullets.
Chen Ke felt these n were there for re show, if any incident were to occur, it would be the Spiritual Ability Users and professionals who would step in to handle it, not to ntion the presence of the Witch on the island.
After all, the Divine Secret Society probably wouldn’t expect anyone to dare make a move on this island.
The suited bodyguard at the door wore sunglasses, just facing the front of the passage, but it wasn’t until Chen Ke got closer that he realized the man had fallen asleep...
Chen Ke glanced inside the door and, as expected, it was a surveillance room. Several monitors hung on the wall, and six people were chatting inside.
"Look at that... that babe has really long legs, and such fair skin," one guard comnted while watching a monitor that showed the stage, his eyes fixated on Jenning as if he were admiring a piece of fine art.
"Are you fantasizing about her? She’s the president of Suluo, you know," another guard teased, grabbing an apple from the table and tossing it at the first guard.
"She’s also a Suluo woman, she can’t hear through the screen anyway," the guard caught the apple, laughed, and then threw the apple back.
"Have you heard that Suluo won turn into tanks after they’re 40?" the guard on the left side of the room added.
"You’d better be careful, I’ve heard that the higher-ups are planning to make her the new Witch..." another guard tossed the apple to him.
"The new Witch? Seems like being a Witch isn’t all that great of a gig," the guard caught the apple, finished speaking, and threw it back again.
Ti around them froze, and the apple hung in midair.
Chen Ke entered the room, tilting his head to avoid the apple, and approached the monitoring console made up of four screens, his hand touching the keyboard, the monitors resud operating.
Chen Ke could now selectively unfreeze the frozen objects within the Ti Domain, which was much more practical than a ti bomb.
He fiddled with the keyboard, blacking out a screen, cursed softly, and then used the arrow keys, discovering this operation could cycle between a dozen caras.
The outer wall surveillance covered the port, small square, and the inner passageways of the wall but did not monitor the inside of the VIP lounge; otherwise, the consecutive killings of two targets just now would have already been exposed.
Chen Ke cycled through the caras once, getting a decent understanding of his current location, and according to what the guards had been doing, they would go inside in a mont and start preparing for sothing called "Rembrance Ceremony," sothing Chen Ke was quite concerned about.
He restored the surveillance, exited the room, and went back to the VIP lounge the sa way he had co. Sleery was now sitting on the bed, waiting quietly, her complexion suggesting she had rested well.
"How are the preparations?" asked Sleery.
"I need to give Ling Yuheng a call," Chen Ke produced a small mobile phone and pressed the call button, connecting to Ling Yuheng. It took a while before Ling Yuheng finally answered.
"I hope you’re being careful with calling. We’re on the island now, and if we’re exposed, the consequences would be unimaginable," Ling Yuheng’s tone was sowhat complainy.
"I need to ask you so questions. What is the Rembrance Ceremony?" Chen Ke asked.
"It’s a staple of every Divine Secret Society gathering, to commorate their founder, who is said to be the first human to have co into contact with Thor, an emissary of the thunder..." Ling Yuheng explained.
"Is Thor part of the Clan, or... a deity?" Chen Ke asked tentatively.
"He is a deity, and on that, you’d best not harbor any doubts," Ling Yuheng stated.
"Alright then, back to my earlier question, have you ever attended one of these gatherings? Do you know the exact process of the Rembrance Ceremony?" Chen Ke inquired.
"Like you, tonight is also my first ti on the island. But I have heard about the Rembrance Ceremony. It seems they want to reenact the burial process of the first founder, whom they honor as the ’Pathfinder.’ Srud, Thor’s daughter, will play the High Priest and perform the Rembrance Ceremony herself at the coffin..." Ling Yuheng said.
"In person... maybe that could be exploited... So, if Srud will play the High Priest, then soone will play the first founder, right?" Chen Ke said.
"I don’t know. Maybe they’ve made a model, I can’t be sure, but I do know they’ve made a luxurious coffin as a prop," Ling Yuheng comnted.
"When does that ceremony start?" Chen Ke asked.
"At 11:30 PM, the overture is almost over. At 11 PM, it’s the Revelation part..." Ling Yuheng responded.
"They sure know how to na things," quipped Chen Ke.
"How many have you dealt with?" Ling Yuheng inquired.
"Two, Wu Guang and Kissinger are dead. I didn’t have a chance to deal with Jenning; she’s giving a speech on stage. I haven’t seen the other three yet," Chen Ke reported.
"Hurry up. By 11:30 PM, everyone will be there, and you won’t have a chance," Ling Yuheng urged.
