Chapter 597: Chapter 597: The Expert

Four n rushed out of the sewer, the raft seeming a bit strained under the weight of four. Therefore, Parker simply turned into ashes, which was wrapped in Chen Ke’s clothes and held.

They landed ashore, and with Jacob’s reminder, they set off towards the library attic where Jack was temporarily hiding.

It was now the second half of the night, and only patrol teams were left on the streets. Moreover, Langdon was recently in a state of panic, with an air of curfew. Four grown n wandering the streets at night were easy to be mistaken by the security team, and if they got entangled with the case of Jack the Ripper, that would be a nuisance.

If it were up to Jack, he’d prefer to travel over the rooftops, but climbing buildings barehanded wasn’t easy. Jacob was too old to climb, Chen Ke wasn’t a good climber either, and Parker, even less. So Jack had to accommodate the others, weaving through dark alleys and progressing toward the library.

With the help of Chen Ke’s Spiritual Vision, it wasn’t difficult to avoid the patrol teams on the streets in advance. Chen Ke had always hoped to encounter the monsters that Jack had spoken of, but regretfully, the biggest trouble along the way was only those carrying oil lamps on patrols.

The group arrived at the Langdonbo Institute Library without much trouble. It was established in 1753 and was one of the largest academic libraries in the world. This library would later beco the famous Britannia Library.

Jack choosing such a place to hide was quite ironic since he was actually illiterate and could only spell his own na… It was for this reason that when he first saw the patterns on the ground, he thought those twisted symbols were letters he had never seen before.

The library was vast, with guards at the main entrance and others patrolling inside. Although they couldn’t climb walls, Chen Ke used Ti Stop and Killing Intent Trigger to control several guards, allowing the four of them to stride up the stairs with confidence.

The library interior was solemn and reverent, with shelves of books rising up against the walls to a height of over ten tres. On the floor, rows of shelves arranged in steaming lines, all radiating outward from a central group of low bookshelves in the hall, made it feel as though one was within a sea of books.

Moonlight shining through the large windows above the walls draped a layer of white frost over the books inserted into the gridworks, and a very pleasant sll of paper pulp wafted through the library, involuntarily making one feel humble.

“You might want to flip through the books; the answer could be hidden inside,” Chen Ke said.

“If I could read, and besides, even if I wanted to look, there are too many,” replied Jack.

They climbed the stairs and entered through a door, then ascended further, having now left the library’s reading area. Jack, familiar with the route, pulled the access hatch and opened the maintenance corridor for the chandelier, with the four of them catching the ladder up to the cavity between the ceiling and the rooftop.

This cavity had another entrance, but judging by the spider webs that had been spun over it, it had been a long ti since anyone last visited. A skylight led to the roof, which was Jack’s usual entry and exit point.

The habitable space in the cavity wasn’t large, with rows of rooftop beams up ahead, large chandeliers hung below, and it was possible to see the full view of the library’s reading area. Jack had sohow acquired a bunch of cardboard boxes to use as a bed and was surrounded by so household trash.

“This is it, until everything settles down, Jacob and I will stay here for the ti being,” said Jack.

“I will show this pattern to a friend of mine. You guys stay put and wait for my ssage,” Chen Ke said.

“I’d like to do that, too, but considering those monsters on the streets…” Jack shook his head.

“The world doesn’t need you to save it. Weren’t those things on the street before you t that woman? She’s just using you,” Chen Ke said.

“Chen Ke is right; she’s just using you. I don’t believe it’s that simple for you to have joined the Secret Keepers. Have you seen the Queen?” Jacob also chid in.

“Maybe it’s just not the right ti yet? If I can just help them with this…” said Jack.

“Do you really want to be a Secret Keeper? Dealing with those things every day?” Chen Ke asked.

“To be honest, not really… I just don’t want to turn into a bug,” Jack replied with a chuckle.

“Then it’s settled. Wait for my ssage. If you’re short on food and water, I can help you get so,” Chen Ke said.

“Thank goodness, you have no idea how much of a struggle it is to get food every day,” Jacob dropped himself onto a cardboard box, entering old man mode. He hamred on his lower back and yawned.

“It’s getting late, old-tir. We should rest now, right?” Jack looked over at Jacob.

“You should feel lucky! If Chen Ke hadn’t co back, I really wouldn’t know how to deal with your ssed-up situation. You always cause concern, and who’s going to wipe your ass after Ivy and I die? Have you ever thought about the kids in the Thief Gang?” Jacob pointed at Jack, seeming genuinely angry.

Jack heard the anger in Jacob’s voice and kept silent, sitting to the side and spreading his hands helplessly toward Chen Ke.

“Then I’ll be leaving now,” Chen Ke said.

“Right, Chen Ke, thanks again. My little rascals have caused you trouble. I hope you won’t tell Ivy about this…” Jacob looked at Chen Ke.

Chen Ke nodded, lifted the skylight leading to the roof, which instead revealed the Illusion Dream Center. He and Parker crawled in and landed on the floor of the Illusion Dream Center.

“It’s obvious, Parker… little Jack is lying. He drew those ancient symbols himself…” Chen Ke got up from the floor and dusted off his sleeves.

“How could you tell?” Parker asked.

“We’ve both dealt with those monsters. Do you believe he killed that thing with just a dagger?” Chen Ke countered.

“He said he drank so mysterious red liquid, maybe that helped him…” Parker questioned.

“He grew cockroach legs, so I don’t doubt he really drank sothing strange. But you should note one thing. Take Yasla as an example. Individuals who have mutated can indeed fight Spiritual Monsters, but the dium Jack used was just an ordinary dagger,” Chen Ke analyzed.

“Ah… indeed, maybe he could defeat the monster himself, but a normal dagger shouldn’t be so effective,” Parker said.

“Half of what he said is true, and the other half is false. Jack certainly did sothing to himself to cause the mutation, but he didn’t expect to turn out like this, so he went to Jacob for help,” Chen Ke said.

It was like a kid who stumbled onto the wrong path, and now Jack was in too deep to get out.

“And the dreams he talked about, and the white-haired woman, are those lies too?” Parker asked.

“The dreams and the white-haired woman shouldn’t be made up. His description has similarities to what Diana saw through the Holy Diamond and the woman I know, and the worlds created by Divine’s Dream are truly bizarre…” Chen Ke said.

He had briefly entered Lady Katherine’s dream at Duke Mox’s mansion, and everything there was so mad, aningless yet full of aning.

“Plus, Jack is illiterate; he couldn’t co up with phrases like ‘pale blood’ or ‘beyond the hunt,'” Chen Ke shook his head.

“So what do we do now?” Parker asked.

“First, figure out what Jack is up to… And I think Jack really has t the white-haired woman, but their relationship isn’t as he described. Chances are… she might be hunting him…” Chen Ke pondered, chin in hand.

One was a Secret Keeper, the other a mutated individual. Everyone understands what might happen if they t.

“Ah, you’re just missing a pipe, Chen Ke. Do you have any way to figure out what the symbols an?” Parker asked again.

“I can’t… but I happen to know two experts in this area…” Chen Ke took out his cellphone, opened the address book. He only had a few contacts, and right then, two nas appeared at the center of the screen.

Drake and Laura.
