Chapter 585: Chapter 585: The Joy of Becoming a Father
Chen Ke and his team had, in effect, spent the equivalent of 60 days and nights at the Illusion Dream Center.
Lucina’s injuries still showed no sign of healing, and no matter how much Diana slept, she always felt tired.
Chen Ke knew why. The Illusion Dream Center had no concept of ti flow, so everything remained unchanged and stuck in the state it was upon entry.
The Illusion Dream Center couldn’t be used as a safe house; it was only a temporary refuge and a transfer point between areas. Staying there, the dream world’s situation wouldn’t progress, nor could the team’s condition be replenished.
This reminded Chen Ke of Parker, Priskin, and Hall. Parker had once slept in the Great Void; Priskin and Hall had rested here too. Although it appeared as if they slept, in reality, they were only fooling themselves…
Over the past sixty days and nights, Diana was constantly exhausted without realizing it, and her Fla Magic was much weaker than when she first obtained the Witch Power. Chen Ke understood that unless he took her into the dream world, Diana was never going to recover her strength.
The sa went for Lucina. Although there was no need to eat or drink here, and wounds didn’t fester, the constant, dull ache and fatigue weren’t pleasant for an ordinary person to endure either.
Go to Opportunity City? No.
Unpredictable Sleery, dangerous Olivia, and the troubled Li Moyang—these were all issues. Ti in Opportunity City was precious; he needed his team ready to move at any mont, whether for Olivia’s next attack or if Li Moyang suddenly found Sleery. They couldn’t afford to waste Opportunity City’s ti recuperating.
For now, Chen Ke knew of one place where he could buy so ti for his comrades…
That was Langdon City in the year 1859.
Xu Jing had told Chen Ke that changing history was a complicated and dangerous matter. The universe would fix and smooth out contradictions between the past and the future, but it was better for those in the tiline to be involved in the changes. If soone from beyond their ti interfered rashly, it might lead to unwanted results or even result in the creation of a dead world.
This also explained why Xu Jing and Lin Yaying were reluctant to take action themselves, even though they desired to intervene in the past.
Chen Ke had also warned Parker and Lucina about this. If people from the past saw sothing from the 21st century, the course of history might beco unpredictable. A 21st-century handgun could inspire soone from the 19th century, leading to inventions erging decades early.
Last ti, Chen Ke had used Black Gun to kill another version of himself on the outskirts of Langdon City, where he had left a great rift-like trench on the ground. When Chen Ke returned to Opportunity City, that non-existent trench had beco a famous landmark in 2009 Ingram…
Originally, Chen Ke hadn’t been as worried about the past and future’s impact as Xu Jing had been, but considering his current alliance with Li Moyang, he had to be cautious. He didn’t want sothing he did over a hundred years ago to affect his life a hundred years later. Now Chen Ke could finally understand the foundation’s feelings.
But Langdon was the only place to buy his team ti. There weren’t many people there who knew Chen Ke, no vendettas, no governnt manhunts, nothing to threaten their safe recovery.
Only two issues were troubling: money and housing.
Since they were going to Langdon City, Lucina and Diana would have all their physical needs… Eating, drinking, excreting, and sleeping were givens, not to ntion bathing and changing clothes, wound dressing, sanitation, illness… all had to be considered.
In Opportunity City, they could have sought help from Li Moyang, but now that he was overwheld with his own problems and had also agreed to track Sleery, Chen Ke felt it would be inappropriate to ask him for help.
Fortunately, Chen Ke wasn’t entirely without acquaintances in 1859. He could probably seek out Jacob, whose children were very familiar with Langdon and should be able to find a few places for strangers to live in seclusion.
Chen Ke gathered his friends, and they congregated in Diana’s apartnt, where Chen Ke shared his thoughts with them.
“You must not go outside unless absolutely necessary, don’t talk to anyone, and it’s best not to have any contact with anyone,” Chen Ke said.
“It sounds like imprisonnt… I thought I could have so fun in 1859,” Lucina shook her head.
“It will be so boring just staying inside the house. 1859 in Langdon is the heart of the Industrial Revolution, I wanted to see Big Ben,” Diana also said.
Parker, on the other hand, didn’t say much; he seed not to want to go there.
“I know this request is a bit inhumane; frankly, I’m also in the dark about the influence of the past on the future. I don’t know what the specific situation will be, so I can only reduce uncertainty as much as possible,” Chen Ke spread his hands.
“If that green Holy Diamond really is in the hands of that woman you know from 1859, that ans it’s supposed to be with her, right? Would it count as interfering with history if you went back and stole it?” Lucina asked at this point.
Parker and Diana both looked at Chen Ke at the sa ti.
Chen Ke scratched the back of his head, unable to answer this question.
“You see, there’s no solution to this. Our re presence in the past is interference. So I think no matter who told what, their real intention was just to make you obey,” Lucina said.
“Maybe you’re right… Xu… that person might really be deceiving …” Chen Ke bowed his head, furrowed his brow as if pondering so problem.
“What are you randomly analyzing over there?” Lucina asked.
“Nothing… I think I should… set off now. I’ll go ahead, and when everything is arranged, I’ll call for you,” Chen Ke stood up, feeling there were things he should confirm before explaining them to the others.
Chen Ke quickly returned to his apartnt on the fourth floor in two strides. He moved a stool next to the wall and stepped on it with a thud, opening the clock face.
1859…
Chen Ke manipulated the hour hand on the clock face, slowly moving it to the position of 1985.
“Ssssss…”
A strange noise ca, as though sothing was clinging to the outside of the window.
Chen Ke turned his head to look, and saw a giant blood-red cockroach squatting outside the window, about the size of a 51-inch color TV, its disgusting belly facing Chen Ke, its two antennae rhythmically swaying.
What was worse, the cockroach’s eyes were situated below its mouthparts, so it was staring right at Chen Ke. Chen Ke was stunned, not knowing where this creature had co from, and his hand, holding the clock hand, also stopped.
At that mont, the mouthparts of the cockroach began to wriggle as if trying to say sothing.
“What the hell…” A double-barreled sprayer appeared in Chen Ke’s left hand.
After a few seconds, the cockroach actually emitted a voice similar to a child’s…
“Daddy…”
