Chapter 578: Chapter 578: A Step Too Late

Chen Ke’s armor imdiately transford into the Ascension Set. With a strong push of his legs, he charged through the wall and appeared in front of Lucina. He instantly turned his back, summoning the Banshee Greatsword to rest diagonally behind him while bullets pinged off his armor.

Lucina leaned on Chen Ke’s front, using him as a cover. Chen Ke’s left hand materialized a loaded REC7 rifle, which he handed to Lucina.

“Eat lead, you bitches!” Lucina roared, retaliating against the group of Assassins. With gun in her left hand, she leaned out slightly, resting the barrel on Chen Ke’s body as she fired with a bang.

The bullets clanged against the Assassins’ bodies, sending off a tallic ring. Their white protective glows seed capable of blocking ordinary bullets—a truly practical secret Skill!

Chen Ke recalled the greatsword, his right hand now conjuring a grenade launcher, taking a shot at the opposition.

“Boom!”

“Bang!”

Three Assassins were sent flying, their lower bodies blasted into a struggling ss, while a surviving Assassin nearby was hit by shrapnel, blood covering his face.

The gunfire from the opposite side died down a bit. Chen Ke saw four golden silhouettes and three blue ones in the room; two were lying on the ground, and one stood in a strange pose against the wall. The four professionals were right there!

The gun in Chen Ke’s hand switched back to a REC7. He fired at the Assassins on the ground, dazed from the blast, and then imdiately rushed into the room.

“…Your contract has been terminated, Mr. Pankia.”

A bald man, wielding a Desert Eagle, spoke to Pankia, who lay on the ground. As Chen Ke burst in, the bald man had just pulled the trigger.

“Bang!”

Pankia’s last view was of a figure in coppery-gold armor charging into the room.

“Chen Ke…?” Diana saw Chen Ke; she was topless, with two large icicles piercing through her chest and abdon, pinned motionless against the wall, blood spilling over her lips and running down to her collarbone.

Next to Pankia’s corpse, Sleery lay in a pool of blood, riddled with bullet holes, bleeding from the mouth and nose, her eyes wide open in death.

Without a word, Chen Ke charged at the nearest professional, thrusting the Banshee Greatsword from behind. Its tip speared through their intestines, protruding from the front. The professional had no chance to comprehend what had happened before he was dead.

The greatsword vanished into thin air; Chen Ke turned with his hands in a sword-gripping gesture, and a moonlight blade materialized in his grasp, slashing horizontally at their heads.

But the previous strike had given them a mont to react, and Chen Ke’s attack was blocked. His arm was forcibly halted mid-air as if so force was restraining him.

“White’s Ability?” Chen Ke felt like his wrist was gripped by an invisible large hand, lifting his entire body off the ground.

In that mont, the bald man’s hands emitted a frosty chill as two ice spikes quickly took shape.

Just then, Diana extended her left hand, forcefully shooting out a fla beam, hitting the professional beside the bald man. He released his hold on Chen Ke to block the flas with his transparent arm, but it was too slow; half his body was charred black, a nauseating sll of burnt flesh spreading.

Chen Ke dropped to the ground. The two professionals, their bodies flashing with a blue light, conjured a set of strange Mage robes and a golden protective shield. Without a word, they smashed through the wall and leapt out of the house.

Diana’s eyes flared up with fire as fla patterns on her body slowly erged. Her body reverted to a fla form, lting the icicles embedded in her. She ca down from the wall, staggering a few steps before kneeling and spitting out a mouthful of blood.

Chen Ke replaced his armor with that of An Helei and helped Diana up.

“I’m sorry… there were too many of them, I was afraid of hurting Sleery and the others…” Diana sighed. She glanced at the corpses of Sleery and Pankia, feeling she had failed to make a difference.

The Fla Witch was very strong in battle, but she couldn’t take care of those around her. The roaring flas didn’t discriminate between friend or foe. If she could suppress the flas, then she couldn’t unleash the deadly high temperatures over a wide area, and her combat effectiveness would also be greatly reduced.

“I know, I know… It’s not your fault. Can you still fight?” Chen Ke asked.

“Let’s go kill those sons of bitches!” Diana said, stubbornly standing up.

Chen Ke handed the Banshee Greatsword to Diana, shouldering Moonlight himself and walked toward the hole in the wall. Lucina ca running in at that mont.

“Keep an eye on their bodies,” Chen Ke said.

Having said that, he took Diana’s hand and the two of them flew out together.

Transforming into a flying fire, Diana glided with Chen Ke at a height of twenty ters. The two n in mage robes were struggling to run towards the forest behind the manor.

As they flew over the heads of the two professionals, Diana let go of Chen Ke’s hand, and he descended from the sky, hurling a Spiritual Power Crystal Gun at the two n below.

The crystal gun, like a pillar of stone, ca striking down from above. The bald man imdiately conjured a magic shield, a blue circular barrier unfolding overhead. A terrifying sound of shattering followed as the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun was forcefully blocked by the barrier, breaking into a shower of light fragnts.

Chen Ke arrived shortly after, his sword striking the barrier. The bald man felt a numbness in his hand as cracks appeared on the shield. At that mont, Diana ignited a raging fla that spewed forth from her chest, licking the area where the two professionals stood.

Suddenly, the professional next to the bald man burrowed into the ground with a swoosh. He extended a hand from the earth and dragged his companion down with him, and the two vanished into thin air with their earth escape technique.

Diana landed, holding the greatsword in her right hand and looking around cautiously; she stroked the blade with her left hand, enchanting the Banshee Greatsword with a layer of fire. The originally dark red amber blade surged as if ignited by the flas.

“Their abilities are unfamiliar to … not typical secret skills,” Diana said.

Chen Ke activated his Spiritual Vision to look underground for any sign of the two, but he couldn’t see a thing.

“They’re professionals, a bit stronger than Spiritual Ability Users. I don’t know what other tricks they have up their sleeves—stay alert,” Chen Ke warned.

“Professionals?” Diana heard the term for the first ti.

“Do they have such people in the Administration Bureau?” Chen Ke asked.

“Even if they do, I wouldn’t know. Chen Ke… I’m sorry, Sleery and the others… they’re dead,” Diana said.

“Focus on the battle at hand, Diana,” Chen Ke said.

They stood back to back, the red and blue greatswords glowing in the dark forest like the sun and moon.

“Creak, creak…”

“Mmmmm…”

Strange sounds began to echo around them. Chen Ke’s eyes emitted a blue glow, but he saw nothing unusual.

“The trees around us…” Diana said.

At Diana’s warning, Chen Ke looked at the nearby trees and noticed their branches quietly growing longer, and their roots slowly pulling up from the ground…

“Tree people?” Chen Ke asked.

“I’ll burn them,” Diana declared.
