Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Shadow’s Passing Twice

Lester smiled and pulled out three photographs from his inside pocket, laying them on the table facing Chen Ke. They slid across.

Chen Ke looked at the photographs on the table of three middle-aged n.

These three n, just by looking at their faces, one could tell they were wealthy and held extraordinary social status.

Wealthy people unintentionally reveal an aura; an aura that is unrelated to “confidence” or “power” yet, to so extent, can counteract others’ “confidence” and “power.”

That is “opulence,” an aura that can suppress all other presences, also casting a permanent debuff on those beaten by it and the weak-willed—the effect, “inferiority.”

“These three are quite wealthy, aren’t they?” Chen Ke asked.

...

“They have money, but are not extrely wealthy. Of course, it depends on how you define wealth,” Lester replied.

“Who are these three?” Chen Ke inquired.

“That’s not important. A butcher doesn’t need to know the nas of his pigs. Just bleed them, kill them, that is everything,” Lester said with a smile.

Chen Ke looked over the three photographs; three targets all at once, not sure if they had Spiritual Ability Users protecting them, what their background was, where they were located, what their nas were; his face showed hesitation.

“Don’t worry, Chen Ke, I can tell you hate wasting ti, but I promise this will be a simple job for you. I have all their information, just follow my instructions, kill them at the specified tis and locations,” Lester said, noticing Chen Ke’s confusion, earnestly.

“You know where they are? And when they will be there?” Chen Ke asked, puzzled.

“Yes, three nights, just handle them tomorrow night, the day after tomorrow, and the day after that. The world will thank you,” Lester assured him.

What perfect timing, flawlessly staggered from the mugging sequence…

“It’s that simple? Are you sure your information is accurate?” Chen Ke questioned.

“There won’t be a single mistake, but they might have many bodyguards. You need to sneak in, quickly take them out, and quietly leave. If their deaths look like a series of accidents, even better,” Lester said.

“Accidents?” Chen Ke wondered.

“For instance, accidentally falling down a staircase or a chandelier conveniently coming loose… Chen Ke, use your imagination. A friend of mine rarely uses guns, the whole world is his weapon, you can try that as well,” Lester suggested.

After a mont of reflection, Chen Ke nodded and said, “Alright, I’ll try.”

“Good, after the job is done, I’ll give you 100,000 union coins as a reward, and then a 20% bonus,” Lester generously offered.

Chen Ke’s eyebrows raised, the paynt was unbelievably high…

“But rember, Chen Ke, each person only gets one chance, they’re shrewd and know they’re on an assassination list, so… be sure to act without a trace,” Lester cautioned.

“I’ve got it, Lester, consider them dead.” Chen Ke picked up the three photographs.

He flipped the photographs over and found the addresses of the three n written on the back, along with the corresponding tis. It seed visiting at the specified tis was the only way to encounter the targets.

After finalizing the agreent and providing an offline account, Chen Ke left Zio Suit Shop from the side door, stepping back into the bustling streets.

The hustle and bustle of the streets were irrelevant to him. Chen Ke hailed a taxi and headed to his rented apartnt.

Along the way, Chen Ke studied the photographs intently, morizing their faces. In this era, there was no technology to recognize faces, at least Google didn’t have a search by image option, otherwise, he might have learned more about these n.

One man would appear at 11 PM tomorrow night in an office building in Raffi Road District.

The next, the night after, would show up at 9 PM at a wealthy mansion, number 118 in Holy Oak.

The last, in two nights, at 8:30 PM, would be at a budget hotel, room 98, in Gun Tie District.

The locations of these three were vastly different, sharing no apparent links, potentially just three unrelated targets. Chen Ke put away their pictures and stopped focusing on them.

The next three days were bound to be particularly fulfilling.

The taxi traveled along the boundary of Gun Tie and Raffi Road, with only the sparse wilderness and woodland lining the roadsides and the occasional streetlight illuminating the circumurban highway.

“Hey buddy, can I smoke?” the driver suddenly asked.

Chen Ke disliked the sll of cigarettes and never indulged, but not being particularly fussy right now, he responded, “Alright.”

The driver chuckled, pulling out a pack of cigarettes, squeezing one between his lips, then getting out a lighter and flicking it.

The lighter was probably out of fuel, failing to light after several tries. Chen Ke watched the tiny sparks flying from the lighter’s flint wheel, strangely srized.

“Damn it, really ssed up, bought cigarettes but forgot to get a lighter…” the driver cursed, shaking the lighter, trying a few more tis.

“Crack!”

Chen Ke gave a wry smile as the driver finally managed to light his cigarette.

He imdiately felt bored, and to a bored mind, everything seems interesting.

But then things beca interesting.

Without warning, the driver’s head burst open with a “pop,” splattering the windshield with blood and brains.

“Damn it all to hell!” Chen Ke couldn’t help but curse, covering his head in disbelief.

The driver’s body still maintained its pre-death posture, one hand holding the steering wheel and the other holding a lighter, but the body slumped towards the passenger seat. As his hand moved, the vehicle violently swerved to the right at 80 miles per hour.

Then, it flipped.

The car first shattered the roadside barrier, then plunged into the mud, where it rolled sideways six or seven tis. The front door and the left tire were flung from the body, and the dead driver’s body was ejected through the broken windshield.

Finally, the car lay silently upside down in the mud.

After a few minutes, a powerful force flung the rear car door off, and Chen Ke, bloodied, crawled out. His injuries had been healed by “healing,” but the blood remained on his body.

“ 40 minutes”

“ 40 minutes”

“ 40 minutes”

“ 40 minutes”

“ 40 minutes”

“ 40 minutes”

The sniper… that sniper!

Chen Ke drew out his PPQ.45 looking towards the dark countryside; he knew, however, that the opponent was far beyond the reach of his Killing Aura Radar.

Breathing heavily, he glanced back at the taxi. The gasoline was leaking, but the car had not caught fire.

For now, his priority was escaping from this open location; it offered no cover, and a sniper who could hit a driver in a speeding vehicle was not ordinary.

“You’re well hidden, you bastard… if I find you… I’ll make you pay…” Chen Ke muttered to himself, crouching and moving towards the pitch-black woods to his right.

A bullet sliced through the night sky, coming toward Chen Ke. He heard it cutting through the air, turned his head to the left, and could even see the coppery glow of the bullet as it streaked through the night with a dark red heat.

Chen Ke suddenly had a bad feeling.

The bullet missed Chen Ke, but it passed exceedingly close to his neck. The intense heat from the passing bullet tore through his throat; he could no longer draw breath.

Chen Ke clutched his neck, feeling like a human fountain gushing blood upward. His body felt emptied, strength drained, and his left hand, holding the gun, trembled uncontrollably and dropped the weapon.

Chen Ke forced himself forward a few steps but eventually knelt down, his vision darkened, and he collapsed face down.

“Your remaining lifespan is 19 hours, 57 minutes, and 39 seconds…”

Even with his eyes closed, Chen Ke could see this line of text in the top right corner of his vision.

Dreams have everything…

Even the fragrance of the soil…

“Mission accomplished, Mr. Lan i. The target has been eliminated.”

“Yes, I found many Holy Relics diamonds on him, including Laven’s.”

“Alright, Mr. Lan i, I’ll be returning now.”

“‘Resurrection’ consuming 30% of maximum lifespan.”

“Your remaining lifespan is 13 hours, 57 minutes, and 39 seconds…”

Chen Ke opened his eyes, a faint red aura of killing intent emanating from him. He instinctively touched his neck; there was no wound.

Not far ahead, the sniper, who had previously escaped, was slowly walking forward, utterly unaware that his target had just risen from the dead.
