??Chapter 170: Chapter 157: The Strongest Paladin of the Laine Empire

Chapter 170: Chapter 157: The Strongest Paladin of the Laine Empire

The soldier guarding the gate carefully recorded the na “Eileen,” writing it down with the most serious attitude he had ever mustered, using what he believed to be the most beautiful script, and then he handed it to Katherine for a look.

“Miss Eileen, please check if the na has been written correctly?”

Katherine rembered the background story she had set for herself very clearly and quickly nodded to indicate there were no issues.

“Eileen, what a lovely na, it matches well with your temperant, lady. By the way, my na is Albert, Albert Osen. Though I’ve just joined the city guard, I’m already a third-class private, entrusted with heavy responsibilities by my superiors…”

Maintaining a politely neutral smile, Katherine listened to this soldier nad Albert introduce himself. While slightly embarrassed, she felt a small sigh of relief inside.

Amberser really was quick-witted, having co up with the excuse of “just swallowed an undying creature and haven’t digested it completely.” Katherine deeply felt the gap between herself and an experienced adventurer like Amberser; his adaptability was truly incomparable.

Albert Osen felt that this day was his luckiest, for he had encountered his love at first sight. The human girl before him was pleasing to his eyes in every way. Perhaps her features were not the most beautiful, but her aura was just like that of the perfect partner he had envisioned in his dreams.

It must be the Lord of the Dawn that heard his prayers and sent this angel before him.

While he was absorbed in this thought, suddenly a figure knee-slid swiftly beside him. The sound of iron knees sliding on the ground covered so distance, coming to a halt right in front of Katherine.

“Oh, beautiful lady, you are the most breathtaking view I’ve ever beheld. You might find this sowhat abrupt, but every word I speak cos from the heart. Please allow

to introduce myself, I am…”

Angry, Albert gave a kick that sent this rival flying, bellowing, “Get back to your post, Omoss!”

The lad called Omoss was unfazed, despite the shoe print on his face, and continued to speak to Katherine, “I am sincere, I swear on the Lord of the Dawn, that I will do everything in my power to make you happy!”

This scene, why does it seem so familiar?

Katherine recalled being surrounded by a group of orcs in a tavern; back then, Amberser’s advice was to beat them up.

Now, the situation seed rather similar, so could she…?

Katherine clenched her fist, preparing to give these Laine people a harsh lesson, just like in the previous encounter.

But the rcury Avatar bounced in front of Katherine, preventing the impending scuffle in ti.

Hidden inside the rcury Avatar, Amberser felt a chill. If Katherine had started a fight, the trouble would have been enormous. This was not an adventurers’ tavern; adventurer’s thods were not applicable here.

After all, these Laine people were only declaring their love publicly; it wasn’t a capital offense. Katherine just needed to refuse them; if she fought back, the nature of the act would change entirely.

However, seeing that the girl was inexperienced, Amberser had no choice but to once again speak for her from within the body of the rcury Avatar.

“Young soldier, this is not an encounter arranged by the deity, just an ordinary passing by. My master is already betrothed to soone in her holand. Please allow us to enter the city, we have important matters to attend to.”

Hearing Amberser say this, Katherine imdiately rembered her persona and blurted out, “But I’m being forced into the marriage.”

Amberser: …

When she said this, both Albert and Omoss instantly beca indignantly filled with righteous anger.

Omoss declared loudly, “By the Holy Light above, how can such wicked acts exist? Rest assured, Eileen, I shall help you deal with this nefarious betrothed.”

Noticing that the situation was unfavorable, Albert hastily agreed, “Yes, yes, I feel the sa way. I will protect you from any harm, I swear on the Holy Light!”

Amberser was really fed up with this girl; next ti he would make sure to personally oversee the background story.

Katherine had to spend a long ti explaining that although she did not like her betrothed, she was not planning on accepting anyone else’s pursuit and that she intended to use her own strength to earn money and call off the engagent!

Albert and Omoss had not expected Katherine’s background to be so “tragic,” yet found her resolve to be even more appealing.

But since Katherine had already articulated her refusal, they couldn’t persist any longer. According to Laine law, it was illegal to continue pursuing a woman after she had definitively expressed her rejection.

Reluctantly, Albert processed Katherine’s city entry, watching as she went through the gates until her figure had disappeared completely before turning back around.

Albert, still seething, said to his colleague, “It’s all your fault, Omoss! Your reckless actions scared off my Eileen. Don’t you know any restraint at all?”

Omoss, however, was resolute, “What do you an ‘your’ Eileen? Did she agree to you? Pursuing love is everyone’s right, and you bla

for your own hesitation? Though I’ve been rejected, I won’t give up… I get off work in half an hour, and I will continue to pursue my goddess!”

“That’s against the law!” Albert said in anger.

Omoss stated determinedly, “But she would need to initiate a lawsuit for a guilty verdict, and Eileen isn’t from Laine, she probably doesn’t know this law. As long as she doesn’t take it to court, I will keep pursuing! Even if she does, I won’t regret it!”

Katherine and Amberser had already entered Sandshadow City, and Amberser realized he had underestimated Katherine’s influence, so he hastily instructed her to cover up more to avoid attracting more Laine citizens to openly profess their love.

Following the directions given by the two young guards at the gate, they quickly found the location of the Continental Transmission Array, only to be frustrated to learn they had to wait in line to use it. The expensive Array was usually available upon arrival, designed specifically for the use of high-ranking officials from various countries.

However, the Teleportation Circle in Sandshadow City seed to be extrely busy, continuously filled with Paladins coming and going.

Amberser guessed that they had stumbled upon a guard change in Sandshadow City.

The Dwarves had already fully retreated, and the war was drawing to an end; frontline cities like Sandshadow City naturally needed to change guards after the war’s end. Elite Paladins needed to go to the Laine Imperial Capital to receive awards, while the local regular troops would take over the city’s defense.

This was a standard troop movent, and it just so happened that Katherine and Amberser had encountered it.

Katherine, following procedure, submitted an application to use the Continental Transmission Array and was told that they would have to wait at least six hours.

The two of them, having no choice, found a little tavern in the city to wait.

The taverns in Sandshadow City were quite different from those in Dew City; first and foremost, the taverns were populated exclusively by humans, with no other races present. Moreover, there were very few Adventurers; most patrons were Laine people, either Paladins changing shifts or general adherents of the Lord of the Dawn, and even the Bards inside the tavern were singing hymns to the Lord of the Dawn.

The place was enveloped in an aura of light everywhere.

Katherine found this very novel; neither Alchemy City nor the desert had such a strong religious atmosphere. The Elf Tribe, although they worshipped the Elven Gods, didn’t have such an intense religious atmosphere either.

All of Laine seed to be constantly bathed in the Holy Light, with the teachings of the Lord of the Dawn integrated into all aspects of life.

Katherine remarked, “If the entire Laine Empire is imbued with this atmosphere, it is no wonder this empire is so powerful.”

The proportion of Paladins in the Laine Empire has always been higher than the norm, a fact that other countries on the continent find hard to comprehend.

But anyone who visits Laine would find it unsurprising that they have more Paladins; the place could already be called the terrestrial Divine Realm of the Lord of the Dawn.

Amberser whispered to Katherine, “The strength of Laine is not only due to their devotion; their understanding and research of the Holy Light’s power is also the strongest on the continent.”

The Supre Decree of the Laine Empire is the new chief editor of “Legendary Spells”, and although Amberser had a grudge against him, aside from the issue of racial discrimination, the other party was competent enough to serve as an editor.

The Laine people don’t just recite scriptures all day; as can be seen from their replication of Divine Artifacts, they have never abandoned the progress of academia and technology.

Religious fanatics are not scary; disciplined, progressive religious fanatics truly are.

It was precisely because of the Laine Empire’s thriving appearance that Amberser thought of creating a body immune to the constraints of Holy Light. He feared one day returning to the surface to find the Nine Great Kingdoms all beco Laine territories, leaving him, an undying being, with no place to stand.

Although Katherine agreed with Amberser’s words, she couldn’t help saying, “Laine may be devout, but this country doesn’t give

a good feeling. Devotion is good, but if everyone is a fervent believer, the country is very likely to collapse. History has proven this ti and again; Laine may appear stronger and stronger, but I feel that this country will soon run into trouble.”

Amberser did not comnt on this.

He was not very knowledgeable about politics and was unable to discuss such matters with Katherine; he simply reminded her, “It’s better not to talk about such topics here; it could lead to trouble.”

Amberser only wanted to peacefully get through these few hours and then use the Continental Transmission Array to travel to the Erald Dream Forest.

However, this peace ended after two hours.

An elderly Paladin clad in silver-white armor walked into the tavern.

Amberser felt a jolt in his soul, and a strong sense of crisis washed over him; this aged Paladin appeared extrely dangerous to him.

His instinct told Amberser that if he encountered the man outside the city, he might have a chance to fight, but if he engaged in a battle with him inside the city, he would likely have to resurrect from the Life Casket.

Who was this old man?

At this mont, the Laine citizens in the tavern also noticed the elderly Paladin, and they promptly stood up to salute, respectfully calling out his na — General Reiter.

When Amberser heard this title, he imdiately rembered a na — Winston Lyte, who was also known by another, more famous na — the Silvermoon Knight of the Empire.

The strongest Paladin of the Laine Empire, bar none.

There were many legends about him on the continent; almost everyone who heard them would sigh in relief that Winston Lyte did not co from the royal bloodline. If he could don the Magic Dragon Armant, the continent would have long been dominated by one empire alone.

What was such a legendary figure doing in a minor place like Sandshadow City?

Worse still, the old man was heading straight toward Katherine and Amberser!
