Chapter 132: Are you asha of ?
Chapter 132: Are you asha of ?
The next day, she woke up with a lacklustre gaze, letting out a low sigh.
Just the previous night, it had snowed, the surroundings were peacefully quiet.
Maureen glanced at the window, the sky was still not bright, a small, grayish snow was still drifting.
She turned on her mobile phone and took a glance at the ti—it was only six in the morning.
This was the first ti she had less than five hours of sleep, Maureen felt light-headed and light-footed.
However, she wasn’t able to fall back asleep.
She decided to go to the classroom to study first.
Carrying her books, Maureen felt her head floating in the air as she walked to the classroom under her umbrella.
There weren’t many people in the school on Sunday, it was very quiet.
She got the keys from the class representative of the international class, directly unlocked the front door, and entered.
After she put down her books at her seat, Maureen found that there were a bunch of love letters in her desk drawer.
They fell all over the place when she pulled out her chair.
Maureen was taken aback.
She had only seen such a pile of love letters at Richard’s place.
What’s the situation?
Previously, there were none when she ca in every morning.
Did they specifically choose after school on Friday to deliver them?
Maureen figured it might be because she had recently qualified for the finals and beca more famous around school that she started receiving love letters.
Without paying much attention to them, she simply picked up the love letters scattered on the ground.
One of them was even signed by Harold from the Evergreen class.
He really didn’t give up.
She found a bag and stuffed all the love letters into it.
She bent over and looked inside her desk, frowning involuntarily.
Seems like she’d have to lock it in the future; the person who slipped in the love letters had crumpled all her books, and a piece of candy managed to sneak out of its package, sticking to one of her textbooks.
Aggravated, Maureen took the opportunity to clean up her desk completely.
She moved Liam’s chair down, took all her books out, and set them on his chair.
However, at that mont, she discovered sothing inside one of the seldom-used books that was always at the bottom of the pile.
Smaller than an A4, about the size of a B5, it had a red hard paper cover and gold foil letters.
She pulled it out.
Once she realized what it was, her breath hitched.
A real estate title deed???
Quickly, she flipped it open.
The property was actually the two rundown courtyards in Mountain bay.
As her eyes moved up, her pupils shrank dramatically – her na was in the column for the property owner??
In the next line regarding joint ownership, it stated that she was the sole owner.
The back contained a white ground plan diagram of the house and land.
Maureen’s heart pounded wildly, and she was completely stunned.
Those two courtyards belonged to Auntie Elizabeth, and Maureen lived there with her grandma when she was alive.
But why was her na on this title deed now?
Maureen glanced at the date, realizing that the registration date was October 13th.
That was the day Liam had caught a cold and missed school.
Could there be a mistake?
Maureen’s heart pounded in her chest.
She quickly took out her phone, not caring about the ti, and dialed Aunt Elizabeth’s number.
Country folks get up early; her call was quickly answered.
Aunt Elizabeth thought Maureen needed more of her specialties and said, “Maureen, whatever you want to eat, just tell it to .” Neglecting this, Maureen asked her about the property rights to those two courtyards — why was she the owner?
“What?” Aunt Elizabeth on the other end of the phone sounded puzzled, and after a mont reacted: “I thought you knew about it.
Not long after you guys left, your classmate visited again.
He said he liked the scenery and wanted to buy it, ntioning it had developnt value or sothing, I didn’t quite understand.
But he offered a high price.
In reality, those two shabby courtyards couldn’t be worth that much money, the roof tiles hadn’t been repaired for years and were about to collapse.
In our village, we don’t have complex procedures, I just signed the contract, took the money and a man who was with him handled all the procedures, I didn’t know the specifics.
Is there any problem now?” “Which classmate was it?” Aunt Elizabeth replied, “The most handso one with red hair.” Liam bought those two tile-roofed houses, but why was she —— registered as the owner?
In other words, did he buy the place where she used to live with her grandmother and then gave it to her?
But he didn’t say anything.
It had been nearly two months, and he had not ntioned a word.
If it weren’t for her tidying up her desk, she might never have realized it.
Maureen’s mind was a blank.
She didn’t know when she hung up the phone, she was holding the property deed in her hand, totally in a daze.
It was difficult for her to describe her feelings at this very mont.
When Liam had taken her back to the property on his private plane, she felt like it all had been a dream.
After paying respects to her grandmother and cherishing the past affections, she woke up when she returned here.
The place may either face demolition or change beyond recognition, there was nothing she could do…
But Liam just extended this dream without warning, he bought the property and presented it to her.
The small world where she had grown up suddenly belonged entirely to her in her eighteenth year.
From now on, she would be the deciding force over any changes to it.
Liam had a fever on the day they went to handle the property and paperwork.
That should have been the day after she visited his ho.
When she visited his ho, he had been rather cold.
But the next day, he flew to San Francisco.
At this mont, the snow outside the classroom window was getting thicker, sweeping with the cold wind.
The entire world was shrouded in pure white.
Maureen’s eyes turned red, she clenched the red booklet in her hand and sank into the chair.
In the silence, so impulsive thoughts surged wildly in her heart, as if they were waves from the sea.
All she could think about was Liam’s face.
His vivid and expressive eyes and eyebrows, full of youthful audacity, burst into her heart savagely yet tenderly.
Maureen licked her dry lips.
A slow swell of desire started to build up within her.
She wanted to be in a relationship with Liam.
She wanted to hold hands with Liam.
She yearned for the touch of their skin, to hold him close during the dry winter days.
Everyone has their own life and exists in their independent world.
It is a difficult task for two souls to co together.
Maureen never thought that one day, she would et soone who would stir such a strong desire in her to be with him and for him to be with her.
Ideally, they would be tethered together, their fingers intertwined, never to separate.
She longed for his past, present, and future.
A wave of impulsiveness surged within Maureen.
She peered at the seat next to her, where Liam usually sat, laying her eyes on the traces he had left behind.
Countless emotions were churning inside her.
Suddenly plucking up the courage, a spur-of-the-mont decision, she dialed Liam’s number.
As the dial tone rang, her head felt like it was buzzing.
Looking up at the wall clock, she realized that it was just twenty past six in the morning.
Oh no, she had called him so early, he would definitely still be asleep.
A sense of panic filled Maureen, and she instinctively moved to hang up the call, but before she could, the call was answered from the other end.
“Hmm?” Liam’s voice was a bit husky, still harboring that familiar low pressure from when he just woke up.
“It’s .” Maureen could clearly hear her own heartbeat.
There was a silent pause on the other end for a few seconds, as if he instantly beca alert, imdiately climbing up from the bed: “What happened?
Is there sothing wrong?
Where are you, I’m coming right over.” In that instant, Maureen’s eyes felt a bit hot.
“It’s nothing,” she said, “Not a big deal.” “Are you really okay?” The Liam on the other end of the phone line was doubtful.
He could sense from Maureen’s voice sothing wasn’t quite right.
He hurriedly bounced off from the bed, pulling on clothes as fast as he could, his ssy hair standing out.
Liam’s movents were rapid, his cell phone was so close to his ear that it felt a little hot: “There must be sothing wrong for you to call this early–” Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Maureen.
“Liam, do you like ?” Such a sentence.
Totally unexpected.
Maureen’s voice ca through the phone line, mixed with a slight hum of electricity.
The whole world fell silent.
Liam was stunned montarily.
He completely froze.
His whole body imdiately stiffened, his heart pounding, and his limbs cold.
So, sothing was indeed wrong.
But it wasn’t about personal safety.
Instead, she had discovered sothing.
Actually, it would be strange if she hadn’t found out.
A little more attention, and she could see his eyes full of tiny masks.
So what does this predawn phone call an – Liam dared not ponder further.
His heart plumted, his slender fingers holding the phone subtly trembling.
He walked to the window, completely at a loss, unsure of where to rest his gaze.
His heart was pounding in his chest with both rapidity and fear.
Did she call to reject?
To reiterate to him what she said to Niel that day?
Liam’s face turned pale.
… “Yes.” The Adam’s apple in Liam’s throat rolled, unsure of his feelings as he uttered these words.
“I like you.” He said in a croaky voice.
At this point, he had no choice but to admit it.
It seed as if Maureen had seen right through him, driving him into a corner of utter helplessness.
The breath of Maureen on the other end of the line suddenly grew shallow.
Liam’s blood rushed to his skin, an imdiate urge to hang up the phone tugging at him, too afraid to hear what Maureen would say next.
But his body had grown too stiff, rigid as a slab of stone, unable to move, like a prisoner awaiting execution.
He stood there, helplessly lowering his eyes.
“But you–” Liam tried to say, but you need not feel burdened– However, before he could finish, Maureen’s voice ca through.
“It’s quite a coincidence, I like you too.” “…..” Liam’s pupils slowly dilate.
All sounds have disappeared.
The whole world goes into deathly silence.
Only this sentence, along with the beating of his heart, falls into his ears with the background buzz of the electric current.
…..
For a full ten seconds, Liam doesn’t respond, his breath hitched, blank in the mind as he clutches the phone, like a frozen piece of stone.
…
Wait, what did she just say?
Liam wondered if he was dreaming.
He quickly pulled his phone away, pinched his own face, and the pain ca imdiately.
His throat knot moved, his heart was beating so fast it felt like it was about to jump out of his chest, and he pressed his phone back to his ear again.
The phone was getting hot.
It couldn’t be any more real.
So, it wasn’t a dream?
“I like you.” Maureen calmly repeated it.
Little Mask said she likes him.
At this mont, everything seed to slow down.
The breathing slowed down, the voice slowed down, the speed of the falling snowflakes slowed down, even the air slowed down.
…
.
Liam’s breathing gradually beca hurried, and his heart started beating wildly.
His numb limbs seed to regain feeling, his eyelashes trembled slightly.
The whole world was snowing.
Liam stared out the window, watching the snowflakes fall, his numb fingers moved.
“Little Mask, are you sure?
I thought—” On the other end, Maureen’s voice was clear, “What did you think?” Liam still felt as though he was in the middle of a dream.
He had waited for too long.
His eyes were red.
“That day when Niel called, you forgot my birthday.
You even said it yourself, it wasn’t possible for you to like .” Liam spoke these words with extre difficulty.
Toward the end of his speech, his tone had dropped.
Maureen shuddered and finally understood why he had been acting so strangely during that ti.
It turned out that he was by her side when Niel called her.
– He thought she liked Richard.
– He heard her say she didn’t like him.
Maureen instantly felt guilty.
Maureen panicked and quickly attempted to boost Liam’s spirits, saying, “What was said that day doesn’t count, I was slow to pick up on things then, I didn’t realize at the ti.
But now when I say I like you, it ans-” “It ans to take as the boss?” Liam retorted in response.
Maureen was frantic and quickly explained, “I an I like you!
I’m confessing my love!
Not as a friend, not as a boss, but because I want to be in a relationship with you, want to eat als with you, go on dates, watch movies, hold your hand, hug you, and kiss you.
You’re the one I like most in this world, and I want to only be with you.” As Maureen spoke, her ears were red.
With those words hanging in the air, all she could hear from the other side was huffing and puffing, but no words.
“I’m coming to find you,” Liam said.
Maureen glanced out at the heavy snow blanketing the landscape.
She thought it might be troubleso for him to co at this ti, yet she wanted to see Liam.
She buried her flushed face into her elbow, “Mm, I’m in the classroom.” The call didn’t hang up.
From Liam’s end, the sound of rushing downstairs could be heard.
Hearing the banging and clattering, Maureen was about to advise him to slow down, when suddenly a thud, a trendous shock, ca from the other end.
Maureen: “Twenty minutes later, Liam, who had fallen down the stairs in his excitent, was picked up by an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
