Chapter 58: How Dare They Not Invite

North Hollywood, Toluca District

A Mondeo approached from the north, and Hawk spotted Edward standing at the parking lot entrance. He turned the wheel and drove toward him.

When the car stopped, Edward got into the passenger seat and pointed about a hundred feet ahead. “They went into that house.”

Hawk took out his binoculars and carefully observed.

It was a modest detached house. A black Ford, with the sa license plate he’d previously noted, was parked under the lamppost near the front gate.

The yard’s walls were unusually tall, over three and a half ters, covered in rose vines that obscured the house inside.

Hawk deduced that behind those walls was likely a single-story house.

Edward also picked up his binoculars. Using the streetlight, he first examined the car, then the high walls and the towering roses. “Boss, based on my extensive experience, those two bastards must be fooling around in the yard. If I sneak in and record it, we’ve got them.”

Hawk shook his head. “If you go in, they’ll shoot you in the head, and they won’t even have to go to prison.”

Edward scratched his head. “So, what’s the plan?”

Hawk’s mind flashed to headlines of celebrity scandals, particularly the ones featuring Sarah Parker and Bro Derek’s public displays of affection. An idea started forming.

He needed to witness what was really going on with this couple before devising a plan to bring Bro Derek down.

Edward waited for instructions.

Hawk pulled out his phone and sent Edward a phone number he’d gotten from Caroline. “Pretend you’re soone from Sex and the City’s production crew. Find a public phone and call Bro Derek. Tell him Sarah Parker is here, and she’s with soone. Got it?”

Edward instantly understood. “Boss, leave it to . I guarantee Bro Derek will show up.”

Hawk nodded. “Get moving.”

Edward jumped out of the Mondeo and sped off in a van to another location.

Hawk grabbed his photography gear, drove into the parking lot, and found a good spot to set up a tripod and cara.

The tall lamppost nearby provided excellent lighting for nightti shots. He also set up a long-lens digital cara and retrieved a night vision device from the car to scan for hidden surveillance.

Finding none, Hawk waited under the quiet night sky for the showdown to unfold.

Sherman Oaks, Hilltop Mansion

In the living room, Bro Derek glanced at the clock. His wife, Sarah Parker, still hadn’t returned.

The event should’ve ended a while ago.

He had a bad feeling.

His phone rang, and he answered, “This is Bro Derek.”

“Hello, I’m a colleague of Sarah’s from Sex and the City.” An unfamiliar voice ca through. “Mr. Derek, after the event, Sarah and Jason Lewis went to a place in North Hollywood’s Toluca district.”

The caller provided an address before adding furiously, “They’re together in a house. Definitely fooling around!”

Bro was skeptical. “Why are you telling this?”

The person shouted, “They’re fooling around and didn’t invite ! I won’t let them get away with this!”

Bro hung up, equally annoyed. They didn’t invite either!

However, the thought of Sarah fooling around with soone else didn’t upset him. He loved it when she was happy—it wasn’t a big deal.

The only issue was that he wanted to join in.

Bro imdiately called Sarah. When she answered, he heard strange noises, including Sarah’s excited exclamations.

He asked sternly, “Where are you? I love you so much. Why didn’t you invite this ti?”

At that mont, Bro felt a deep sense of betrayal. “How could you do this to after all my love for you?”

Sarah was surprised. “How do you know?”

“Soone from the production crew tipped off,” Bro said. Most people wouldn’t have his private number. “Did you give my number out?”

Sarah, after catching her breath, replied, “It must’ve been David or Sam. They’ve seen my phone, maybe even morized your number.”

Bro pressed on, “Did you fool around with them too?”

When Sarah confird, Bro said, “Next ti, invite .”

Sarah asked, “Are you coming tonight?”

Bro was already at his car. “Wait for .”

Parking Lot

Edward returned and got out of the van. “Boss, I made the call. From my experience, he’ll definitely co.”

Hawk checked the ti and handed Edward the cara. “Sherman Oaks is close. If Bro’s coming, he’ll be here soon.”

He reminded, “Turn off the flash. Just shoot whatever you can.”

Edward quickly disabled the flash, grinning. “This is going to be wild! If they start fighting on the street, the news will blow up!”

Hawk pulled him into hiding. “Stay quiet and wait.”

Before long, a rcedes drove up and parked across from the Ford.

The driver didn’t get out, seemingly scoping the area.

Once he confird it was safe, Bro stepped out, checked the address, and then knocked on the door.

Hawk adjusted the tripod and lens to focus.

Edward hid behind a car, muttering, “This doesn’t feel right. Shouldn’t he be kicking the door down?”

Hawk kept his lens trained on the scene.

The gate opened, and Sarah, dressed in a nightgown, appeared.

Instead of the expected drama, Bro imdiately embraced Sarah, kissing her passionately as they went inside and closed the gate.

Hawk shut off the cara, realizing things hadn’t gone as expected.

“Perverts!” he cursed.

“They’re insane!” Even Edward could tell the footage had no value. A late-night rendezvous between a husband and wife wasn’t scandalous.

Hawk glanced at the lamppost, quickly disassembled the cara, and packed up the tripod.

Edward followed, asking cautiously, “Boss, are you okay? You seem shaken.”

“Hollywood freaks!” Hawk muttered. “How many people are in the house right now?”

“At least three!” Edward realized what was happening. “Wait, no way—Sarah and Bro are…”

Hawk retrieved a rope with a hook and slung it around his waist. He also strapped the cara to his back.

“Boss, are you scaling the wall?” Edward, ever eager to break the law, offered, “Let do it. No boss should lead from the front!”

Hawk pointed at the tall lamppost. “Can you climb that?”

Edward eyed the seven-to-eight-ter pole and shook his head. “If I had those skills, I wouldn’t have left Compton. I’d be a gang leader with a crew by now.”

Hawk pointed north. “Go to the next intersection. If you see a patrol car, call imdiately.”

“Got it!” Edward drove off.

Hawk crossed the road, stood under the lamppost, and assessed it. Gripping the pole with his hands and clamping it with his legs, he began climbing.

He had practiced this skill in Las Vegas, inspired by videos of elderly n scaling poles in seconds. Even with the cara on his back, Hawk swiftly reached a height of six ters.

Securing himself with the rope, he leaned back slightly to stabilize.

He unhooked the cara and aid it over the wall.

As he had anticipated, the yard was small, with a single-story house in the back. Bright lights illuminated the scene.

The front had a massive sliding glass door and wide windows, all open, likely due to the security offered by the high walls—or impatience.

Inside, Bro was seated on the couch, watching Sarah and Jason’s “performance.”

Soon, he joined in.

Hawk captured everything with his cara.
