"Besides, with interstellar regulations in place, even if they can’t stand , they wouldn’t dare really act on it."

After saying this, she deliberately glanced back and playfully winked.

Caleb Shaw pulled down the brim of his hat, covering most of his face.

He stood motionless, his fingers digging into his palm.

He thought he must be crazy to accompany her in this charade for so long.

He could have been at the base handling paperwork, yet she inexplicably dragged him to this old street.

Claire Joyce followed Selene Kane’s gaze backward, and upon seeing Caleb, her eyes lit up instantly.

She quickly tidied her collar and brushed her stray hair behind her ears.

She posed with a delicate and boneless grace.

"But I heard you’re still not pregnant?"

She lowered her voice.

"With a Commander as your status, can they tolerate that?"

The smile on Selene Kane’s face vanished instantly.

Her once relaxed shoulders tensed slightly.

Her gaze was as cold as ice as she stared at Claire Joyce, speechless.

"How do you know I don’t have children?"

This matter wasn’t a secret within their maternal family.

But she had never ntioned it to outsiders.

She never revealed anything on social dia, nor did she ntion the content of her dical reports to anyone.

Claire Joyce put on a look of sympathy.

She lifted her hand, gently patting Selene Kane’s hand.

Her eyes full of concern, her gaze sincere.

Anyone would think she was a truly caring friend.

"You’re my best sister, how could I not care about your slightest movents?"

She gently rubbed the corner of her eye, pouting, and puffed her cheeks.

"And you talk about ! You haven’t contacted for so long, I thought you were living the dream and had forgotten your old friends. I sent you ssages several tis with no reply. Your phone was always unreachable. If you were really busy, you could have just said so. You said nothing, only leaving to guess. How could I not be anxious?"

She usually led a low-key life, making it hard for outsiders to find out much.

She rarely went out, maintaining a small social circle.

Yet Selene Kane was famous throughout the Star Sector for her sharp tongue.

In such a big event, would she really not hear a peep?

Reasonably speaking, Selene Kane was the best-inford.

Any disturbance in the Star Sector, she knew earlier than the Intelligence Bureau.

She had gone through several Beast Husbands in quick succession.

Every ti it caused quite a stir, even reaching public forums.

Selene Kane couldn’t possibly not have heard these things.

If she really cared, she should have co to ask long ago.

Where was the friend in a ti like this?

Where was Selene Kane?

As for thinking they are poor...

That’s really unjust.

She had always wanted to return and even planned to bring a few Beast Husbands back to make an impression.

But when those Beast Husbands heard, they thought she wanted to use them as bragging tools.

"Do those back ho still think you’re living it up outside? Bringing us back is to show them how impressive you are?"

"We aren’t your accessories; don’t use us to deal with your relatives like the seven aunts and eight uncles."

Not only were they unwilling to accompany her back, but they also mocked her coldly.

"Don’t use us as clowns to entertain your hotown relatives."

The words left her face white with anger.

She stood in the center of the living room, her fingers dug into her palm, unable to say a word.

After saying that, they left without staying a second longer.

The door was slamd heavily, causing the walls to tremble.

The words infuriated her, leading to a loss of control and she beca violent.

The Beast Husbands beca even angrier, breaking off completely, calling her eccentric, and even began to despise her.

The next day.

Everyone knew she had gone crazy.

She hid in her room, not leaving for three whole days.

Food was slipped in through the door crack by others.

Selene Kane held her hand tightly, her eyes sparkling.

"How could I forget you? I think about you every day."

"You don’t reply to ssages, and I don’t dare to call you recklessly. I’m afraid you’ll find annoying. But I really miss you. Every ti I see couples strolling, I rember our tis at the night market together."

"Since you moved away, I’ve lost my appetite, can’t sleep well, and lost a lot of weight. Look at , the bags under my eyes are as dark as if I’ve been up for three days straight."

"Look, it’s all blue here. My skin shows fatigue easily, and now I don’t even dare to turn on HD mode when taking photos. My colleagues even asked if I’m sick or need to take ti off."

Claire Joyce felt a bit uncomfortable, wanting to withdraw her hand, her eye twitched.

Her wrist hurt from Selene Kane gripping it too tightly.

The sudden burst of enthusiasm made her suspicious.

They were on good terms before, but never to this extent.

Selene Kane was always sharp-tongued, often nitpicking when they t.

When did she beco so gentle and considerate?

How hadn’t she noticed Selene Kane was such a good actor before?

Once, she wore a new dress to a gathering.

The first thing Selene Kane said was, "This color makes you look fat; you should wear black."

Another ti, she brought homade snacks, and Selene Kane said after one bite, "Too much sugar, use half a spoon less next ti."

She eyed the female before her.

With fair and tender skin, her waist slim enough for one hand to encircle.

Thin where necessary, yet still curvaceous where needed.

Even the only thing she’d outshone Selene Kane in, her long black hair, was now outdone.

The hair was as black and shiny as ever, draping over her shoulders, the ends softly curled inward.

Whereas her own hair had been neglected lately, leaving it dry and split.

She unconsciously touched her hair’s ends, a wave of discomfort sweeping through her.

Selene Kane now appeared to be living quite well, with exquisite makeup and tailored clothes.

Even her earrings shone with understated elegance.

But was all this truly just reminiscence?

Her hair was natural, washed every morning with warm water and massaged with nourishing plant oil at night, with deep care once a week.

Even so, her strands appeared dry and frizzy in the sunlight.

anwhile, Selene Kane’s hair flowed smoothly down.

Looking again at their clasped hands, a pang of sourness hit her heart.

Selene Kane’s fingers were long, her nails neatly trimd and rounded.

While her own hands, from hard labor, had slightly thick joints and thin calluses on her thumb.

Seeing their hands together made the difference strikingly apparent, almost prompting her to pull back.

Selene Kane seed to carry a glow, standing incongruously in this dilapidated slum.

She wore a well-fitted long dress, with fabric so tender.

The shoes on her feet were simple yet pristine.

The mild, pleasing fragrance she wore spread with the breeze.

The surrounding walls were mottled, the ground muddy.

Children chased one another barefoot at the alley’s mouth.

But she seed from another world altogether.

And she herself felt like a dusty old item in the corner, increasingly dull.

Wearing old, faded clothes with worn cuffs, pants with several patches.

Standing there, she felt even her breathing grow constrained.

Claire Joyce felt her heart clog with unease.

Wasn’t it just luck, awakening an S-level spiritual power?
