Why did her expression suddenly change?

He rembered that just a couple of days ago, she had proactively taken dicine to Caleb Shaw with a gentle deanor.

But not long after, she left him cold, not even allowing als to be brought in.

Looking at that cold and narrow room, he almost shed tears.

The room was in the most remote corner of the camp, the wind made the windows creak, and spider webs had gathered in the corners.

The furniture was old, the bedding thin, and there wasn’t even a heater.

He tried to sneak his own blanket in, but was stopped by the guard at the door.

They said the Female Master ordered that no one was to approach.

The location was remote and the room small.

If in the future the Female Master deliberately didn’t summon Lord Shaw, what would happen to his descendants?

He thought of the clan’s breeding rituals and the honor that Caleb Shaw, as the strongest War General, should have enjoyed.

Now he was placed in such a place, without even a decent accommodation.

He worried that Caleb Shaw’s bloodline would not continue, and feared the clan’s future would suffer damage as a result.

Other Beastn were also feeling downcast.

They went about their tasks around the camp, moving much slower than usual.

Their admiration for Caleb Shaw was almost blind.

In their hearts, Caleb Shaw’s status was akin to the Beast God.

He was the hero who led them to win against three external invasions, a role model for countless young warriors.

Yet he was trapped by such a female, it was too unjust.

They had seen matriarchal tribes before.

But those females at least understood the importance of respecting great generals and ruling the clan with wisdom.

This Female Master, however, would lose her temper easily, speak harshly, and act capriciously.

If it were anyone else, they surely wouldn’t treat him like this.

They talked about it in private, but no one dared to speak up directly.

These were matters Selene Kane understood well.

She sat in the main tent, leafing through the ledger in her hand.

She was aware of how those Beastn viewed her and knew how deep their loyalty to Caleb Shaw ran.

But she didn’t care.

What she wanted was control, not to be judged by a group of people through their glances.

Evan Sinclair and Ethan Sinclair were simple-minded.

No matter how she adjusted her attitude, they couldn’t perceive it, judging only based on their mood who was good or bad.

Today they would bring her fruit, and tomorrow they might turn against her over a single word.

She had tried being gentle with them, but they only beca more unruly.

Now she simply let them be; quarrels might continue, but at least things weren’t getting broken anymore.

Though the last few days were still noisy.

But they clearly listened more, at least communication was possible.

If she told them to move firewood, they moved firewood.

If she called them to eat, they ca on ti.

Though they still muttered, their actions weren’t as willful as before.

She knew this was progress, however slow, it was better than standing still.

Henry Sheridan was brooding every day, as if he had sothing on his mind.

He always sat alone on the camp edges, staring blankly at the distant mountains.

At alti, he dawdled, often the last to leave the table.

She wanted to ask him several tis, but swallowed her words back down.

Anyhow, at night when he fell asleep, he would turn into Little Butterfly.

She had long figured him out, while he was still in the dark.

She had seen with her own eyes how he flew out of the bed, his wings almost transparent, quietly resting on the tent top.

Returning quietly before dawn.

As for Caleb Shaw, Selene Kane was very aware—this man wasn’t easy to fool.

Having witnessed her changes firsthand, how could he believe she would suddenly change personality?

His gaze always carried scrutiny, as if trying to discern her next move.

When she pretended to be gentle, he didn’t take the bait; when she pretended to be angry, he rely bowed his head and acknowledged.

His attitude respectful, yet he always maintained a distance.

Staying a bit further was safer.

She didn’t want to clash head-on with him, nor waste energy on acting.

As long as he didn’t cause trouble, she wouldn’t provoke him on purpose.

The two maintained a subtle peace, neither breaking it first.

Zane, being favored by Selene Kane, felt a surge of warmth, his legs turning weak.

Standing before her, his palms were sweaty, his chest heaving deeply.

He was an outsider from the Sea-kin, initially without a single acquaintance at this unfamiliar camp.

But she was different, she rembered what he liked to eat, handed him water bags after training sessions, called out his na to sit beside her in front of others.

"Female."

He grasped her hand tightly, his fingertips trembling slightly.

"I swear by the God of the Sea, from now on, I, Zane, will love only you."

He said, kneeling on one knee, his forehead pressed against the back of her hand.

People around stole glances, whispered among themselves, but he didn’t mind.

In this mont, he only wanted her to know his feelings.

Selene Kane responded with a sweet smile, curving her lips, her eyes bright.

Her smile in his eyes quickened his heartbeat and made his breathing lighter.

He knew from this mont on.

He was no longer that rootless wanderer.

From now on, he was a fish with a ho.

He lowered his head, though he couldn’t hide the smile tugging at his lips.

Ho wasn’t a house, but a person.

As long as she was here, he had a place to return to.

Walking Zane around the mansion.

The servants glanced at each other with knowing looks.

Soone bit their lip, soone quietly shook their head.

They all understood in their hearts now.

This Female Master was determined to elevate the new Beast Husband’s status, perhaps even over Caleb Shaw.

The reverence they previously held towards Caleb Shaw needed to be reevaluated.

How they thought of her, she didn’t care.

Selene Kane just wanted to direct all attention towards Zane, while she stayed as far as possible.

As long as soone else attracted the gaze, she could quietly do whatever she wanted.

Otherwise, she would be restrained in everything, even the smallest action spreading wildly.

Last ti, she lingered a bit longer in the garden, and rumors spread about her having an affair with the gardener.

Before that, she changed her lipstick.

And the next day, rumors surfaced about her displeasure with Caleb Shaw, planning to find a new lover.

She was already tired of this endless speculation and malicious slander.

Using Zane’s na, Selene Kane redecorated the entire mansion.

She had the servants take down the paintings from the main wall in the living room, replacing them with several colorful abstract ones.

The carpets changed from light gray to deep blue, and the curtains replaced with heavy blackout fabrics.

All the furniture was rearranged, even the kitchenware was swapped for new styles.

The likes that were altered to please them before were now completely overturned.

She no longer drank the red tea Caleb Shaw favored, instead having black coffee brewed daily.

She no longer wore those elegant dresses, opting for sleek, waist-cinching coats.

Her schedule changed too, no longer aligning with Caleb Shaw’s banquet arrangents, rather retiring early to her room.

Watching as every belonging of Hayden and Ethan Sinclair was replaced in the room.

The two felt a sting in their hearts, as if pricked by needles, uncomfortable.

Henry Sheridan stood at the hallway corner, staring blankly at the removed landscape painting.

Ethan Sinclair paused at the study door, watching the pair of blue porcelain pen holders being packed into a box.

Evan Sinclair followed behind Selene Kane, initially just wanting to remind her of the value of certain items, but grew more and more alard as they walked.

Every room they entered, sothing familiar to him was being taken away.
