Chapter 245: Ru’s Little Adventure.
Within a grand castle room, the sound of soft giggling echoed, as a small girl with crimson eyes and black hair, laughed blissfully, looking at her stupid big bro getting punished by her big sis.
Ru giggled again.
’Serves him right.’
Meanwhile, her big bro’s friend, Mr.Cloaky, floated playfully around her, making her giggle even more.
Today, Ru was happy, too happy to be with her whole family.
But then her eyes fell on a girl seated in front of her, on a couch, her face looked scary like the uncle who had been here before but Ru couldn’t help but be curious about her.
Sister-in-law...?
That was what big sister Lyra had told her when they were on their way. She also said no matter how sweet she seemed, Ru should not believe anyone in the demon realm. Especially her, because big sister said she tricked her big bro. Ru didn’t know how you trick someone into getting married.
That sounded weird.
She looked scary but somehow she had sparkles around her. So, Ru tilted her head and then slipped past her father, who was busy smiling at big bro and big sis playing.
She walked with slow steps towards her and quietly took a seat beside her but she didn’t even look at her. Ru didn’t know what to say, up close she looked even more scary.
Ru almost got up but she didn’t, she was strong.
She was.
Two days ago, she even scared that stupid boy in her class, the one who laughed at her and everyone said she was strong after that.
So she stayed.
She wanted to know more about her sister-in-law.

Just as Ru was about to greet her, she took out a chocolate bar and started eating it. Ru forgot what she was about to say and her eyes dropped to the chocolate immediately as she stared just a little... or maybe a lot and as if noticing her intense glare, the scary sister-in-law finally looked at Ru.
She tilted her head at Ru.
"Do you want some...?"
She broke a small part of her big bar of chocolate and extended it towards Ru.
Ru swallowed as her mouth felt weird.
She wanted it.
She really, really wanted it.
But her big sis had said to not trust her.
She thought and thought.
Then, her eyes lit up.
I’m not trusting her, I’m just gathering information.
She had seen it before. On TV. A spy girl did the same thing, she smiled and talked and acted nice but she was actually tricking the bad people.
Ru nodded to herself.
I’m doing that too.
Not for chocolate.
"...."
But for information.
And with a small, proud smile, Ru took the chocolate.
"Thanks, big sister."
The scary girl just nodded and looked away, back at big bro.
Ru took a bite, then another and then a bigger one. Stella almost never let her eat chocolate, saying it would ruin her teeth and after big bro left... there was basically no chocolate at all anymore
But this one was really good, it was similar to the one her big bro always gave her.
Ru kept nibbling... and nibbling... until it was gone.
"....."
Oh.
Ru froze, slowly turning back to her sister-in-law.
I forgot about her.
Her eyes widened.
She’s good.
She almost tricked me too.
Ru looked at her again and as if feeling her gaze, she looked back, offering another piece of chocolate. "You want another...?"
Ru swallowed again but she was strong. She shook her head.
I am sorry chocolate, I am on a mission today.
Ru sat up a little straighter.
"...Why do you want to marry my big brother?"
She mustered her courage and asked without hesitation.
The scary sister-in-law looked at her... then at big bro. "He said he would give me lots of chocolate if I married him."
Ru’s eyes went wide.

She slowly turned to look at her big brother.
That’s such a big deal...
Ru nodded to herself.
Yeah.
That makes sense.
"Do you like chocolate too...?" Ru asked.
The scary sister-in-law nodded. "Yes."
Ru leaned in a little.
"Doesn’t anyone stop you from eating it...?"
"No."

Ru froze.
Her eyes slowly grew wide.
No one...?
Her eyes sparkled.
This place was amazing.
"Nobody lets me eat chocolate at home." Ru said, her face lowering slightly with a pout but just then something fell on her lap.
Ru blinked, looking down.
Chocolate...?
A big one, the size of her palm.
She quickly looked up.
Her sister-in-law was already eating her own, like nothing happened.
"You can have it."
Ru’s face lit up.
Big sister Lyra was wrong.
My sister-in-law is not bad at all.
She’s the best.
Ru threw her arms around her from the side.
"Thanks, big sis Arza!"

Arza was slightly surprised. She didn’t quite understand the sudden hug from the small child beside her, the one who looked a little like Rael.
She normally wouldn’t share her chocolate.
But... the child reminded her of herself. Especially after hearing that she wasn’t allowed to eat any at home.
Arza knew one thing better than most.
Nobody should be stopped from eating chocolate.

Arza glanced at the child... then at Rael.

But before he could actually understand, Lyra finally caught him.
"You have gotten nimble, little bastard." Her smile had that same wild smile all Ashborns shared. "Let this big sister give you a little whack, so you would remember everything I taught."
Rael looked at her, his smile unmoved as he looked at his father, who looked far too entertained for being in enemy territory. Then ultimately his gaze passed over to Ru, his last hope to contaminate this threat with her bright smile.
Ru’s big bright eyes met him as he looked at her helplessly, silently asking for help.
Ru blinked and then she averted her head towards Arza, while silently eating a chocolate, the same chocolate he always gave to Arza.
Ahh, so this is how it feels to be betrayed for a chocolate.
With that final thought, he accepted his fate.
