Chapter 243: A Peaceful Morning in Demon Castle.
I opened my eyes as they felt heavy and dry. When I touched them, they were slightly wet.
Hmm... was I crying in my sleep or what?
I couldn’t help but wonder but before I could think about it, I noticed numbness in my stomach as I felt something even heavier pressing down on it while something pointy lightly poked at my chest.
I turned my head slightly.
"This damn girl... she’s here again. Tsk."
Arza sat on a chair beside my bed while her head lay on my stomach while her pointy obsidian black horns poked at my chest.
And just like that, my morning began, exactly the same way it had for the last three days. Yeah, these damned demons had finally done it. They had successfully made me consider wiping them out once I grew stronger and right at the top of that list would be that bastard Ashavar, their ruler.
Just yesterday, during one of my "explorations," I had seen him casually walking through the hallway. That fucker even waved at me with a smile before Lilith dragged me away.
He could have at least talked to me, maybe explained why I was being kept here but that bastard chose to ignore me instead.
When I asked Lilith about it, she simply said that I could return to the academy after meeting with someone.
I slightly adjusted my body and grabbed a pillow beside me, carefully sliding it under Arza’s head to replace my stomach, which she had been using as her personal resting spot.
Honestly, I didn’t care about her comfort.
It’s just that she was far more annoying when she was awake than when she was asleep.
But just as I was celebrating how successfully I slid in the pillow with my last few days training, this damned girl woke up.
She let out a yawn as the silky strand of her white hair fell all over her face, her crimson serpentine eyes glowing past them. The morning sun made her pale skin feel even ethereal as she tilted her head.
"Good morning." She said, her crimson eyes blinking curiously.
Before I could even start my long lecture, the door to my room opened and a specific pink-haired bitch walked in.
Lillith.
"Ahh, youth. Being lovey-dovey with your fiancée first thing in the morning. What a lovely couple. But you know, Young Master, you shouldn’t be doing such things before marriage." Her mischievous voice echoed the moment she arrived.
"And you know, you shouldn’t enter a young man’s room uninvited, especially for an old hag who has been single for a hundred—"
Before I could finish my sentence, she suddenly appeared right in front of me. Her face still held a smile, but her eyes had narrowed dangerously.
I could practically see wisps of dark purple energy leaking from her body as she spoke in a quiet voice.
"Did you say something, Young Master?"
Tsk. Old hag.
I thought but didn’t say it out loud.
"No, you must’ve misheard..."
I looked at her and paused.
"...especially with your centuries-old dysfunctional ears."
"Oh my, a fly." She muttered as her hand slowly moved toward my cheek.
The air trembled as I felt my doom but I didn’t flinch much partially because I couldn’t show my real emotions and partially because I was sure she wouldn’t kill me.
Just as I had thought, right before touching me, her hand stopped as a massive shockwave blasted the wall behind me, leaving me completely unharmed.
"There are lots of flies in the castle these days. You should be careful, Young Master."
I looked at her, then slowly turned toward the spot where a wall used to be but now there was nothing but open space as a cool breeze flowed in along with a clear view of the massive garden outside.
"So, what were you saying, Young Master...?" Her voice sharpened slightly, clearly warning me to repeat it.
Tsk, this bitch.
But I knew the next attack wouldn’t be so precisely controlled. She wouldn’t kill me for obvious reasons, but she might do just enough damage to keep me stuck in this castle for a few more days and she knew exactly how desperately I wanted to return to the academy.
So, reluctantly, I took a step back.
"...Nothing."
What I had said before wasn’t a lie either.
This woman, Lilith, was the oldest Demon Commander and her Nexus was something related to charm, which allowed her to appear as if she were still in her twenties.
But in reality, she had survived for centuries.
She also had this strange habit of calling young people her "friends" so she could pretend she was one of them.
Hell, she even claimed to be best friends with Morvana, someone who was hundreds of years younger than her.
Overall, she was one twisted bitch and as a prisoner who was finally being released today, I had no intention of messing with the warden.
"Ahh, right. You should get ready, Young Master. You know the meeting I told you about yesterday? The guest will arrive in an hour, so prepare yourself." She said it as if nothing had happened, already back to her usual maid-like behavior.
"Who is this guest anyway?" I asked grumpily.
"Can’t tell you, Young Master. His Majesty asked me to keep it a secret."
With that, she walked toward Arza, who had been sitting blankly on a chair the entire time, still looking half-dazed from sleep.
Without a word, Lilith lifted her effortlessly like a cat and dragged her back to her room.
Moments later, she walked out, leaving me alone with the nice, breezy broken wall I definitely hadn’t asked for.
Some demon workers in the castle waved at me with smiles, as if I were some kind of celebrity. Which, to be fair, I was. I mean, I was technically their possible future ruler.
So I waved back at them.
They seemed satisfied and returned to their work while I sat on my bed, staring at the clear blue sky.
"What a peaceful morning this is."
