Mauve stood in front of the open door to her room while Jael stood right outside. His gaze on her, made her hug herself a little.

"You don't like it?" She asked when he didn't say anything for the longest ti.

She swayed on her feet. Her shoes were a little higher than normal. It wasn't like she could have worn regular shoes. The dress covered every sign of feet. Even with the heels, it still trailed the floor.

"Surely, you jest," he said, his voice deep.

"Mill has been saving the dress. Well, she wanted to wear it before now but I told her to save it for an important occasion, and according to her there couldn't be any occasion more important."

Mauve forced a chuckle. She knew she was babbling but she didn't know what else to do as she stood in front of Jael and under his gaze.

"She was right to save it," he whispered. "It really does suit you exceptionally."

His hands moved to her exposed shoulders, lightly tracing from her right to her left. His fingers lingered a little on her scars.

"I didn't know you could give complints that easily." She chuckled, feeling so of the tension ease off.

The dress was a yellow-gold dress, the sleeves were very small and hung off her shoulders. The bodice of the dress clung to her body as it accentuated her slim waist.

The skirt flared out and there was a pattern of leaves sewn directly onto the dress. The dress swept the floors and Mauve knew she would have to be careful while walking or run the risk of falling face first.

"What are you talking about?" Jael asked and closed the space between them. "I give you complints as often as I can."

He bent to kiss her but she turned away, "You can't, Mill put so color on my lips."

"So that's what that is. Are you sure I can't even get a little kiss?" He asked.

She giggled, "Unless you'd like so color on your lips too."

"I wouldn't mind, it would be a fair price to pay to kiss your lips."

"Jael, stop teasing," she blushed.

However, the idea of him walking around with lip stain on his lips did sound appealing. She chuckled as she tried to picture it.

"Ready?" He asked.

She really looked at Jael and she couldn't help the smile that appeared across her face. He was handso and today he was dressed in full attire, she had never seen him in anything like that.

He wore a tight-fitting shirt and a pair of pants but he added an embroidered coat to it. The coat was black but the embroidery was in gold.

She wondered if he had matched with her on purpose but she doubted that. He looked shocked to see her outfit.

"You look very good," she heard herself say.

He smiled, stretched out his elbow and she slipped her hands through them. She adjusted her dress and stepped out of the door of her room, swallowing the log in her throat.

Any mont now they would arrive at the venue which was literally just a turn away. She could already hear the sounds coming from downstairs. The party had already started.

She nodded, took a deep breath, and let Jael lead her. As soon as they got to the end of the stairs a loud announcent echoed in the space introducing Jael.

Mauve didn't recognize the vampire speaking but it was safe to assu he was a Lord. She was so overwheld by all the faces that it was hard to keep track of all of them.

Mauve didn't even wince at the stares, maybe it was because they were already on her even before she started down the stairs.

She could vaguely hear a tone playing. It wasn't loud enough to overshadow conversations but it was pretty clear.

Mauve wanted to look around to see who was playing it but she didn't want to hold gazes with anyone doing her search.

She glanced at Jael and found that she couldn't look away. It was easy to forget that the entire audience didn't want her here when her companion looked rather dashing.

"You are going to stare a hole through the side of my face," he said to her.

She pouted and turned away. He leaned towards her, his gaze resting on her neck. "I am not complaining, you can stare all you want."

Mauve tried to keep a straight face as they started towards the audience who had created a path for them.

Mauve had known the space that the servants decorated for the party was huge but she had underestimated just how huge it was.

Jael led her to what was safe to assu was his seat. It was a three chair that was located at the extre edge and elevated but it was just one seat.

Mauve frowned wondering where she would be seated. There were chairs around but they were closer to the wall, leaving a huge space in the middle.

She wondered if she would have to sit among the vampires while Jael sat on his throne. She looked around trying to find Mill but stopped when she kept eting eyes with vampires she didn't want to.

Jael didn't even act like there was anything out of place, as he walked up to his seat. He sat down amidst the stares and placed Mauve on his legs.

Mauve's face turned to a very ripe tomato. She watched the audience erupt in whispers. She looked at her feet.

At this point, she would sit on the floor, anywhere except where she was currently seated.

She couldn't even look anyone in the eye. Just kept her gaze down.

They were right in front of everyone, elevated enough that all eyes could see them without straining and Jael decided to place her on his legs.

"Are you comfortable?" Jael asked.

"I don't think comfort is the issue here," she whispered.
