Vae bounced off Louis's back as he caught the third window, hanging off it. It was a miracle she didn't fall off his back. Her hands were weak and it was taking all her energy to hold on.

She closed her eyes and buried her face in the dark. She couldn't see anything and looking around just made her heartbeat faster.

The past couple of weeks have been terrible, she didn't want to think about it too much. She was just glad it seed to be coming to an end.

Her neck was sore and the rope around it was rubbing against the bruises painfully. The only thing keeping her from crying out was that this was finally over.

At first, she had tried to resign to her fate that she was just unlucky and the universe didn't want her to catch a break but when she had run into the princess and she had promised her they would get her out of there, Vae had been more hopeful than she knew she should be.

She never would have expected to et the princess in these circumstances but was she grateful.

She couldn't believe the Vampire King was going this far for a maid such as herself even after she had abandoned the princess.

"Brace yourself," Louis said, pulling her out of her thoughts.

She nodded her head and opened her eyes. He jumped and she would have sworn he walked on the wall before dropping to the ground.

Vae's grip around his neck loosened and she fell to the grass. She tried to get to her feet but her legs failed her, and her head was ringing a little, she must have hit it during the fall.

While struggling, she felt an arm grab her and lift her easily off the floor. She looked up, her heart nearly jumping out of her throat as her gaze rested on a set of familiar eyes.

She couldn't see his face properly but the scowl was hard to miss and as he looked at her face, his scowl increased.

"The last ti you stared at , you looked ready to take out. Now, you look worse than a rabbit left out in the rain," Mack said.

Vae winced but she didn't have the energy nor the ntal fortitude to deal with this. She was just glad to be out of there.

She shrugged and tried to smile but she was sure it looked pathetic. Her legs gave out on her once again and this ti around, Mack caught her by the waist. Just how unlucky was she?

"I guess my job here is done," Louis said shook his head, and brushed dirt off his shoulders.

Vae doubted it was dirt he could easily clean off. She couldn't see it but she was sure her blood was all over his shoulders and neck.

"Yes," Mack said confidently, still holding onto Vae. "I will get her back, safely."

Vae was slightly ticked off that he was holding her in this manner but she was more glad her weight was off her legs.

"Well then," Louis said and looked directly at her. "It was nice to et you Vae even if it was only briefly. I wish you a safe trip back."

"Thank you very much," she said, her voice sounding hoarse.

His eyes widened slightly, "Ohh, you speak."

Vae nodded, "Give Mauve and the Vampire King my thanks.

"Vampire King," Louis chuckled. "Of course. I am sure Mauve wishes she could have told you goodbye herself."

"You know Mauve?" Vae asked with wide eyes.

"Who doesn't? Take good care of yourself now and try not to get captured by vampires again," he waved at her and started walking away.

Vae would have returned his gesture if she had any strength in her arms. Mack was the only reason she wasn't on her face.

Every inch of her body felt numb. It felt as though it didn't belong to her. She groaned. There was a lot to think about but she would deal with that when she was out of here.

"You," Mack said to her. "Can you stand?"

She would have glared at him if she could but she couldn't. Not only was she scared she was also tired.

She shook her head slowly and tried to look at his face but stopped herself. "I have no strength, anywhere."

"I figured, you look a ss," he said, unfeeling. "Humans truly don't heal even half as fast as we do."

She still didn't care for his thoughts really as long as she would be able to get ho in one piece.

Relying on vampires was scary but it didn't look like she had much of a choice now. She would keep her head down and not provoke anyone.

She has found out the hard way just how cruel vampires could be and how helpless she was against them.

He adjusted her and lifted her, "I will get you ho."

Vae blinked as she rested in his hands. Why did that sound like a promise? It was hard to delve too deeply into this when everything was blurring out.

She tried to force her eyes open but they failed her. She wasn't out of the woods yet, her body shouldn't be shutting down on her but it was and there was nothing she could do about it.

Vae felt tears roll down her eyes and everything went black. At least she would be unconscious if things went south.

Louis was irritated as he approached his room. He needed a chase of clothes, he might even need to wipe down. He slled like blood and dirt and whatever was on that human.

If he walked into the dining hall reeking of her, he might as well announce to all the Lord what he had been up to.

He winced, he wasn't very pleased about heading to his room first as he had already spent at least twenty minutes away from the eting.

It was no longer a curiosity on his part but more concern as surely soone would have thought his absence was suspicious and he was worried that soone might be Seraphino.

He groaned as he shut the door behind himself. That wasn't his problem now, that was Jael's to deal with. He didn't get caught and he had played his role quite well.

However, there was more than enough evidence that soone had helped her escape. If the open window wasn't enough indication, the cut rope was.

Now, he was wishing he had had a knife. At least, they could have pretended the human had gotten a hold of it and cut off the room before jumping out the window.

But that narration was the one jumping out the window because there was no way the feeble human could have ripped a four-inch thick rope.

Louis pulled open his wardrobe and pulled out a new shirt. He placed it on his bed as he took off his old one, wiping his neck. He wore the shirt and quickly made his way out of his room.

He wondered how long it would take the guards to figure out she was no longer in the room.

They hadn't exactly been very quiet.

Would Seraphino cause a scene? Would he bow quietly or act out? Louis found that he was curious.

He took the stairs two at a ti and before long, he was in front of the dining hall, the doors wide open as the guards held it for him to walk in.

The air felt thick, the Lords turned to look at him briefly before turning away, Only Jael didn't bother turning. Louis could only see the back of his head.

Otis was on his feet but the Lord was not saying anything, it was almost as though he was waiting for him to take his seat before continuing.

Louis frowned and slightly picked up his pace. He got to his seat and dropped down. Turning to Lady Marceline he asked, "What did I miss?"

"Not much," she whispered back. "So far, he has just been giving a summary of what had transpired in Lady Francine's estate and answering questions. It almost feels like he's stalling."

Louis frowned at the weird description but turned his attention to Otis who was now speaking. This ti around, he seed to be talking about the drug.

Louis turned his gaze to Jael who still hadn't looked at him since he walked in. He didn't look irritated or annoyed in fact, he looked relaxed, too relaxed in Louis' opinion.

Suddenly he turned to look at Louis. His blank stare passed across him, Louis noticed his gaze halted slightly on his shirt before looking up at his face.

Louis blinked twice at Jael and he turned away, the smirk at the corner of his face was too hard to miss.

Louis forced his eyes away from Jael and from the corner of his eyes, he could see Seraphino staring suspiciously at him.
