The second al ended and Mauve was back in the study but this ti around she was alone reading the letters.

Jael did follow her back to his study but he left almost imdiately. He didn't say why and she didn't ask.

She leaned back on his seat and she tried to relax a little. She would get back to work in a few minutes but for now, she needed to rest a little, just for a little while.

She stretched both her arms forward, trying to ease up the muscles. She should probably stand up and walk around but since she just ca into the study about half an hour ago, there was no need to walk around just yet.

Mauve heard it and imdiately sat upright. It was a soft knock. It was so low she would have missed it if she wasn't paying attention.

She didn't know if she should respond and tell whoever was at the door, Jael wasn't here but for all she knew it might be a vampire that hated her guts so she sealed her lips and resud reading the letter with the hopes that whoever was behind the door would take the hint and leave. They didn't.

Mauve winced as she heard the sound of the handle turning. What was up with everyone and barging into the study?

Maybe it was Erick again. She relaxed and tried to continue reading but she couldn't and she lifted her head to the door as she tried to see who was coming in.

Mauve held her breath as the door opened and even after it did, she didn't start breathing again.

Standing by the entrance was Lady Marceline and unsurprisingly beside her was her mate, Lord Alaric.

Mauve swallowed but it felt like pins and needles going down her throat. She jumped to her feet.

"Hello, little girl," Lady Marceline said as she walked into the study.

She was talking in that high-pitched tone. The one Mauve might use while talking to a little animal or a child.

"Where is Jael?" She asked as she looked around the study.

"I don't…" Mauve started to say but her voice sounded weird so she cleared it and tried again. "I don't know."

"As expected," Lady Marceline said, her eyes stopped roaming the walls of the study and they rested on Mauve. "Have a seat, don't stand on my behalf."

Mauve nodded, dropped to her seat, and picked up the letter. She needed her heartbeat to return to normal so she wouldn't hear the loud ringing in her ears.

Lazy Marceline walked forward and stopped in front of the desk. "What are you doing?" She asked, peering at Mauve.

Mauve winced at Lady Marceline's concentrated gaze. It felt like the lady could see right through her.

Even with the desk in front of her. She was visibly tall and towered over Mauve who was beyond nervous.

"I am reading these letters," she whispered.

Lady Marceline frowned and pulled the one in Mauve's hands. Mauve didn't even get a chance to resist. She handed the letter to the vampire-like it was the thing to do.

"Aren't these letters sent by the Lords?" She looked away from the letter to Mauve.

"Yes," Mauve managed to say.

Lady Marceline smirked and turned her attention to Lord Alaric who was stretching his head to see the letter.

She caught a glimpse of his face as his hair moved out of the way and she held her breath. It still shocked her every ti how good-looking he was. She could certainly see why Lady Marceline never let him out of her sight and grasp.

He looked at her as though he noticed she was staring and when their eyes t, he ducked his gaze and clung to his mate so more.

"The Lords would have a field day with this if they should find out."

He said sothing Mauve couldn't hear.

"I know, Lord Phelan would lose his mind if the letters he wrote were read by a human. She chuckled and Lord Alaric laughed with her. Like his voice, his laugh was soft.

Lady Marceline turned her attention back to Mauve. Her eyes scanned Mauve's face for a few seconds and then she smiled.

"You look like a plum chicken," Lady Marceline said with a straight face. "I guess even my evil nephew can take care of sothing."

Mauve winced at her words, sohow it didn't feel like a complint, it felt like Lady Marceline just alluded to the fact that they were fattening her up to be consud.

Mauve wasn't sure if she should respond so she kept her mouth sealed.

"You know vampires don't really know when they would take in a child."

Mauve's eyes widened at Lady Marceline's words. Was she giving her information or hinting at sothing?

"There is no sure way to plan for it or tell. However, rumor has it that just around this ti a…"

She watched Alaric pull on her dress. Lady Marceline stopped talking imdiately and turned to him.

He said sothing Mauve couldn't hear to which Lady Marceline replied, "I thought it was useful…"

He mumbled again.

"I am not teasing her…"

He mumbled so more.

"I am not picking on… Wait a minute, are you picking her over ?"

He mumbled again.

"She's not a dog when you say cute like that it's weird."

Lady Marceline sighed, "I shall take my leave since Jael isn't here if he does return tell him I am looking for him."

Mauve nodded, not knowing what else to say. Lady Marceline turned to leave but not before Alaric waved at her. Her eyes widened ever so slightly but her body was already responding to his wave.

She watched them leave while her thoughts were in shambles. She had definitely heard Lady Marceline right. She hadn't even thought of it but with the way she and Jael were frolicking constantly, wouldn't she be pregnant by now?
