"You sound surprised to see but I wouldn't say happy. Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. What are you doing here?" She asked.
"What's that supposed to an? The library isn't exactly your personal space. I can co here whenever I want," he explained with a smug expression plastered across his face.
She gave him a blank stare before rolling her eyes. "I was just surprised to see you there."
"Yeah, I already said that and I also ntioned the not too happy part. Though I think it's probably because I witnessed sothing I shouldn't have."
"Then don't talk about it."
"You know that's impossible," he grinned at her.
"You're impossible." She started for the seats. Hopefully, if she could rest her rear, she could calm down a bit.
"Don't be like that, Mauve. I genuinely want to know what's wrong. Was it Jael? Would you like to scold him?"
"Would you really do that for ?" She spun and glared at him.
"Oh, you'll be surprised."
"If you're trying to start a fight with Jael. You can do that on your own. You don't need for that."
She scoffed and continued walking. She dropped on the chair and leaned onto the table.
"Co on, enough of that. What's this about?" He asked, stopping in front of the desk.
"Well, it's nothing. Drop it." Her voice sounded muffled as she rested her chin on her arms.
Louis looked at her with bright eyes, "You know it is for this exact reason I can't."
Mauve glared at him, "I don't see you for two weeks and the first thing you do is get on my nerves."
"That's not true I see you every day."
"Only at the table."
Louis gasped and held his chest, "Did you miss ?"
Mauve gave him a disgusted look. "You flatter yourself."
"Enough jest. What's wrong? I know it's sothing bad if you keep deflecting it by being an to ."
"I am not an," she said, lowering her tone. She pouted and hid her face.
"Surely it can't be that bad that you won't tell ," he whispered.
"Leave alone. If you're done here you should go. It's not like you answer any of my questions. Why should I answer yours?"
"Are you saying you'll tell if I tell you? I didn't think you'd understand bargaining, miss."
Mauve jerked her head upwards ignoring the condescending tone of his voice because she was really curious about the incident.
She had tried going through the books by herself but either she was doing it wrong or she just didn't know what to do. It was a lot harder to figure out.
It was even particularly annoying when she discovered, she couldn't find that particular book, at least she could read that one right.
"Are you serious?" She asked with wide eyes.
"Erm, no."
"So you do admit that you're keeping sothing from ," she said.
"Of course," he replied. "That's pretty obvious. I know you have much faith in but I am a pretty sketchy guy."
She gave him a disgusted look, "That's not sothing you say proudly. You should leave. I am sure you have more chores to attend to. Unlike , you actually have work to do. So, I'd prefer it if you didn't bother my solace."
"Wait a minute. Is that what the problem is? Is that what this is about?" He asked.
She glared at him and bent her head down, hiding her face from his gaze.
"How about this?" He said when she didn't say anything after a while. "If you tell , I'll explain everything when things settle. When the renovation and the party are over."
Mauve raised her head at him again, "Are you sure?"
He nodded, "Have I ever lied to you?"
She squinted her eyes at him, "That's easy. You're not exactly a very truthful person."
"Ouch! Unlike how I may seem, I do not lie."
"That's what a liar would say," she said with a straight face.
"Fine, you have my word. Happy now?"
"Not really but if I tell you will you leave alone."
"Of course, whatever you want."
She sneered at him, a little hesitant but she knew it was her fault for letting out the bait and unless he had the full treat, he wouldn't let go.
She sighed, "Promise you won't laugh because you never take seriously."
"True, I an anyone dumb enough to actually fall for Jael must have a few screws loose."
"No slandering of Jael!" She glared at him.
"Just because he is your husband doesn't excuse his bad behaviors."
"Do you want to know or not?"
"I'm sorry, I absolutely want to know. Forgive my impertinence."
"Fine, I'll tell you. I don't think I am of any use here." She bent her head. When she got no response, she turned around to Louis.
"Oh, sorry. I was expecting a rant. I didn't want to cut you short. Is that it?"
"Pretty much, everyone has been busy these past couple of days, even you…"
"Ouch!" He touched his chest.
"Seriously?" She asked, arching her head. "You get what I an, right?"
"Kind of. Basically, you'd rather be busy like everyone else?"
"Yes," she replied.
"You can take my job," he said without blinking.
"You're not helping."
"I don't know what you thought you'd hear but if you want sympathy for the fact that you can literally sit around and do nothing, I have none for you."
"I guess so," she said and turned her head away.
"Don't make look like such a bad person. You don't have to worry about a thing. I assure you it would be more problematic if you started doing chores."
"I don't think I'm being very helpful."
"Ugh," Louis said and stood to his feet. "You're reining the dragon. That's not a task for one person, the fact that you can do it alone is aweso in itself."
