Vol 2 Chapter 14: mory Worm

"Big brother, we're almost ho. Have you thought about how you'll explain things to sister-in-law when we arrive?"

The Kong Family head sat upright in the alchemy chamber, carefully contemplating the family's future and the next dicinal ingredient, displeased that his younger brother was still dwelling on such romantic trivialities at a ti like this.

He replied with half-annoyance: "She's rely a tool for maintaining connections between noble families and continuing the Kong bloodline. Do I need her permission for what I do? If I make her live like a widow, she wouldn't dare utter a single word of protest!"

"Entering the court to teach alchemy secrets and refine various miraculous pills is an honor personally bestowed by His Divine Martial Majesty, recognizing both my abilities and the Kong Family's future."

"I'm returning ho to persuade the elders and gather those special materials, not to bicker with a woman."

The younger brother chuckled: "Then big brother, why are you refining these body-nourishing pills specifically for won? Even while carrying the alchemy chamber below, I can sll that distinctive pill aroma."

The family head composed himself and said coldly: "She's carrying my child."

"Tsk tsk." The brother made a disapproving sound. "I wonder who was all lovey-dovey with sister-in-law before becoming family head, never treating her as an outsider, even mixing together during alchemy sessions..."

"Alright, alright, just keep up this attitude. When sister-in-law starts crying and making a scene, let's see what precious pill you'll pull out then."

The family head stated definitively: "She's not that type of person."

As he spoke, he poured the golden eagle egg liquid he had just prepared into the alchemy furnace. Watching the changes within the furnace, he murmured absently: "She will safely give birth to a son, beco a good mother, and raise the next generation of our Kong Family."

The younger brother asked: "And what about thirty years from now?"

"I don't know." The family head closed his eyes. "I'm the family head, one of the world's greatest alchemists, but you ask what things will be like thirty years from now... I don't know."

He faintly sensed that His Divine Martial Majesty was planning sothing grand, that many old things would be shattered and remade according to his preferences.

These days, he often felt palpitations when contemplating the future. Like now, he experienced inexplicable dread, as if his entire family might die.

"Big brother, trouble! Our ho is exploding! The Grand Elder is returning! He's fighting so eagle-headed monster... He's dead!"

"What!" The family head rushed out of the alchemy chamber, swallowed perception-enhancing pills, and looked toward ho.

Flas shot skyward, battle cries filled the air. Besides the monster his brother ntioned, he saw elders desperately fighting frenzied demon race mbers.

Why were demons rioting when he had suppressed the news! Those surrendered demons promised they would disguise their surrender as deeper infiltration to pacify the dangerous elents!

The family head's mind went blank. His usual shrewd calculations vanished, leaving only madness-inducing rage.

Ho was gone.

These demon beasts, these creatures only fit to be dicinal ingredients...

Yet even in such furious rage, he used his remaining rationality to swallow pills for forced calm and bloodline perception.

Soone as clever as her might have led a group of clansn to hide in secret passages during this massacre.

But aside from the eagle-headed monster and the still-fighting elders, he could only faintly sense those of collateral bloodlines. There were no living souls left in the ho.

As for the eagle-headed monster... with just a mont's thought, he understood everything.

But what use was that!

"Go!" The forcibly cald family head endured his insane rage. "Even if you join forces with the remaining elders, you can't defeat that monster. The Dao Institute will notice and co handle this, but we'll be dead before then."

"To rebuild the Kong Family, we cannot die here."

The younger brother remained silent, only frantically consuming pills before abandoning the alchemy chamber and carrying his big brother away.

The eagle-headed monster voraciously devoured these "fellow tribe" als. With each swallow, its power grew. It didn't notice the human watching from afar, nor did it turn its attention to the still-fighting Kong Family elders after finishing its food.

Following a vague instinct, it ca to the abandoned alchemy chamber.

The furnace fire still burned fiercely, but the eagle-headed monster directly reached inside, grabbed the unfinished pill, and swallowed it whole.

It wiped its face - strange liquid was erging from its eye sockets, but after just a few drops, the strange substance stopped flowing.

It didn't dwell on this, simply following instinct and tracing the human scent on the pill at full speed.

"Big brother, danger!" The family head heard his younger brother's furious shout as he used his last strength to throw him forward.

The eagle-headed monster's arm pierced through his chest and swept upward. A Cloud Condensing realm expert who had overdosed on pills was split in two, then completely swallowed as the monster opened its mouth wide.

Watching the monster feed, the family head grew calm.

So this was the feeling of approaching death?

He didn't flee further. Seizing this final mont, he poured the mory Worm hidden on his person into his brain.

When Mo Wen detected the anomaly through heaven-human connection and arrived, he found an eagle-headed monster relentlessly tornting the Kong Family head's corpse.

Unlike demons, and certainly unlike humans - full of malice and sensations that disgusted him as Human Emperor.

But compared to him, not strong.

Mo Wen didn't imdiately kill the monster. With a thought, he used energy blades to sever its limbs and attacking organs while suppressing the demons still fighting Kong Family elders in the distance, preventing the elders from killing the captured demons.

Then he looked at the family head's corpse.

A worm with the Kong Family head's face crawled from the corpse and respectfully said: "Eternal life to His Divine Martial Majesty! I humbly request permission for Kong Family mbers to execute these demons to avenge our kin."

Mo Wen looked at the still-twitching eagle-headed monster at his feet that didn't understand how it had been defeated: "You want to kill it?"

The Kong Family head worm shook its head repeatedly: "Such an abnormal beast requires thorough study - killing it serves no purpose. I hope Your Majesty will allow victims and those with grudges priority as executioners when punishing these frenzied demons."

"No problem." Mo Wen had already considered this, but more important than handling hate-filled demons was the worm before him. "What exactly are you now?"

The family head worm explained: "Besides stealing bloodlines, Abnormal Insects can acquire mories. I originally researched resurrection pills and specifically bred an Abnormal Insect that could absorb and transmit mories, but the research wasn't successful enough to present to you."

"Though the mory Worm body can inherit mories and abilities, it cannot inherit emotions or soul."

"I am a replica of the Kong Family head, not himself. But this has advantages - the worm body lacks emotional interference and can better execute final commands."

"True revenge for family, eliminating the cause of this abnormal beast's creation, completely exterminating these frenzied demons, and serving you and humanity until death."

The family head worm bowed deferentially, adding its functions: "mory Worm technology can create backups of capable individuals, adding a mory Worm body besides soul and physical bodies. With regular feeding and using new worms to consu old ones, mory permanence can be achieved."

"For further research, I believe this technology will excel at replicating geniuses and transmitting skills, but achieving true resurrection is extrely difficult."

"Please allow to continue this research."

Mo Wen didn't imdiately agree. He threw the family head's corpse along with the worm to arriving Dao Institute personnel: "Protect the worm, transport it to the imperial capital, and conduct multiple inspections."

"I must continue cleansing these riotous demons."
