Rong Zhi connected the phone to the computer using a data cable.

She synchronized the three screenshots extracted from the video with the archive database, then typed in another command, and the database began running automatically to find her matches.

The archive stored information of all students from the school’s establishnt to the present, making the search a bit troubleso. Similar-looking faces were also matched, and by the end of the process, the page displayed information for over a dozen students.

Rong Zhi’s eyes scanned over these individuals, finally selecting the three most compatible ones.

Her attractive fox-like eyes narrowed slightly. These three had no grudges with Rong Fengmian, so why suddenly target him?

Was it jealousy? Xenophobia? Or was soone instigating them?

After pondering for a while, a flash of Rong Fengmian’s injured face crossed her mind.

Forget it, I’ll make sure that boy gets justice first.

After checking on them, there was no need to stay there any longer. Rong Zhi erased her traces, shut down the system, and left.

The evening sun cast an orange glow on the tranquil campus.

Walking along the shadows on the playground, Rong Zhi had so free ti to recall the events of the night when she went drinking with Ying Hengyu.

She rembered Bai Su ntioning that the woman was from the Yan Yue盟.

Rong Zhi had never heard of Yan Yue盟 before, probably because it wasn’t well-known. Only after their wealthy but foolish employer was chased by them did she learn of this group’s existence.

That day, the mbers of Yan Yue盟 were present, and so was the employer. Could it be that the employer’s whereabouts were exposed?

This thought was negated by Rong Zhi as soon as it popped up.

No one who wants to breach her security system is likely even born yet.

It must have been a coincidence, not a matter of exposed whereabouts.

Rong Zhi kicked a pebble at her feet.

No matter the reason, as long as she could complete the task and get paid, she didn’t care.

But a certain soone’s skills seed to exceed her expectations.

Also, when she later tried hacking into the street’s surveillance footage, she found soone had beaten her to it; apart from herself, only Bai Su could have done it in that scenario.

Rong Zhi frowned; it seed Bai Su’s identity was not as simple as she had discovered.

Why was he getting so close to her?

Given that he had many capable people around him, there wasn’t anything she possessed that he could want.

Thinking about these things, she wandered off into a small grove on campus and intuitively looked up, eting three pairs of curious, probing eyes.

Huh.

What a coincidence.

Weren’t these the ones who assaulted Rong Fengmian?

Since it was such a coincidence, she wouldn’t let this ’chance’ encounter slip by.

...

A few minutes later.

Rong Zhi flexed her wrists a couple of tis and spoke without much emotion: "Make sure to buy all the textbooks."

The only response she received was painful groans.

Rong Zhi took out a piece of candy and bit into it. Her fox-like eyes slowly narrowed, and her mood imdiately improved.

She didn’t return to the Huqing District that night but went to the hospital to accompany He Songzhi, and ntioned her plans to return to Luoxia Town the next day.

But He Songzhi seed deep in thought, imrsed in her own world, apparently not hearing her words, with a dazed expression.

Rong Zhi frowned, "Mom?"

"Huh?"

He Songzhi snapped back to reality with a start, "What did you say, my dear? I didn’t catch that."

Rong Zhi’s frown deepened as she reached out to check He Songzhi’s pulse.

There was nothing unusual.

She was even in better condition than before her coma.

Rong Zhi said, "Switch hands."

She took the right hand’s pulse and found it quite normal.

But He Songzhi’s distracted state over the days could not be faked, and she seed to zone out more frequently.

Rong Zhi couldn’t help recalling the unexplainable incident before He Songzhi woke up—could it be sothing went wrong with her returning to consciousness?

Looks like I’ll need to ask Bai Su about this.

"My dear?"

A gentle call brought her back to her senses.

Rong Zhi lowered her gaze and returned to her usual self, "It’s nothing, I’ll be going to Luoxia Town tomorrow to get sothing, and it might take a few days, so heal well and wait for ."

He Songzhi nodded and smiled, "Don’t worry, my dear, Mom’s doing fine. Besides, Mr. Bai and the others often co to chat with , so it’s quite lively."

"Bai Su?" Rong Zhi was surprised, then softly pursed her lips, "When did you two beco so close?"

"It’s called cross-generational friendship; you wouldn’t understand," He Songzhi’s tone involuntarily carried a hint of admiration when she talked about Bai Su, "Mr. Bai is quite nice, good-looking, I’ve heard his family runs a business, and he has a good background, and most importantly, he’s single."

Hearing the last sentence, Rong Zhi had an ominous feeling.

Then He Songzhi continued—

"My dear, even though you’re only nineteen, Mom doesn’t mind you dating; I’m very supportive!" Of course, as long as the person is like Mr. Bai.

She didn’t say this last part, but she blinked at Rong Zhi with great anticipation.

Rong Zhi’s mouth twitched as she patiently explained, "Mom, you might have misunderstood; Bai Su thinks I’m a guy."

He Songzhi: "?!"

She hadn’t thought about this issue, and only upon Rong Zhi’s reminder did she recall that her dear’s current identity was male.

But... Bai Su’s attitude towards her dear didn’t seem like that of a normal friend. These days, whenever her dear was in the ward, she observed their interactions.

Based on her instincts, she felt there was sothing more between them.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have said such things.

He Songzhi started tugging at her hair, a habit when she was caught in a ntal loop.

Feeling quite helpless, Rong Zhi gently rescued that strand of hair from her hand and said calmly: "I’m not going to date or get married; I just want to be with you all."

"But, in the end, you aren’t truly part of our family..." He Songzhi murmured as she bowed her head, a flash of sorrow crossing her eyes at the thought of an elder’s face.

The voice was too soft for Rong Zhi to hear: "What?"

He Songzhi quickly interjected, "It’s nothing!"

Rong Zhi suspiciously eyed her. After a mont, seeing nothing unusual, she gave He Songzhi’s hand a reassuring squeeze, her voice uncharacteristically gentle: "Take care of yourself."

He Songzhi nodded.

That evening, having dinner with Rong Fengmian and the others, she inquired about Rong Fengmian’s exam results, nodding after listening.

She asked him if there was anything he wanted from Luoxia Town, to which Rong Fengmian said no.

Indeed, everything in that ho was destroyed in a great fire; there’s nothing left anymore.

The next morning, Rong Zhi packed up and drove back to Huqing District. On the road, she texted Jiang Gujun, asking him to help take Rong Jiazze to school.

...

Tingshan Villa.

Jiang Gujun strolled downstairs with a ssy head of hair, checking his phone ssages and saw that the one from Rong Zhi was over four hours old.

Just taking a kid to school, easy, he replied with an ’Okay.’

"Mr. Su."

The refined and graceful man sitting in the dining room elegantly eating, acknowledged with a faint hum.

Jiang Gujun pulled out a chair to sit down, eating bread while saying, "Rong Jiazze texted saying he went back ho and asked to look after Jiazze."

Upon hearing this, Bai Su montarily paused in his movent to grab the milk, raising an eyebrow, "She told you she went back ho?"

Jiang Gujun: "Yeah."

Bai Su picked up the milk, recalling that a certain soone seed to really dislike this drink. He swirled the glass lightly and made a sound of indifference.

All the goodwill he diligently earned went in vain; the guy had more room in his heart for Rong Jiazze than for him.

Annoying.
