Chapter 76: Ch 76: End of the Championship- Part 4
’Why did I think it was a good idea to go out with a famous alpha for food? Ugh, is my face covered properly? I can feel everyone staring at . I knew I should have said no when Lynn asked
to wear my signature mask.’
For the third ti, I fought my instincts to fidget with my mask as I straightened my spine. The restaurant walls were the only thing protecting
from the onslaught of reporters currently.
And as if that was not enough, the alpha in front of
was smiling as if he knew nothing, when he was the very reason I was in this ss.
"Don’t worry about the reporters. They might look scary but I will help you lose them soon enough."
Lynn told , his smile telling
that he would help
out in any way he could.
However, I blad him for my current situation.
"So, why did you ask
out? And why did you want
to wear my Ace attire? I’m sure it’s not for a simple al."
I asked Lynn and he looked away with a small blush on his face.
"Hmm, you don’t need to worry about it. For now, just know that it is sowhat...important that the public sees you with ."
Lynn told
and I sighed before I stopped thinking about him and his reasons. Whatever he was planning was not important to
anymore.
"E-Excuse , but what would you like to order?"
The oga waiter that ca in here looked confident at first, but as soon as he stood in front of
and took a look at my mask, all his confidence shattered and he stuttered to ask for our orders.
I pointed to the first decent (and most expensive) thing I saw on the nu and ordered it. Lynn did the sa.
"Y-Your order will be out in a minute-"
The waiter told us but he could not stand to be in the room for much longer and left.
I looked at the fleeting oga and I suddenly felt sorry for him. He likely ca here to get a glance at Lynn, but due to my presence, had to run away before he could even enact his plan...whatever it was.
As I was getting lost in my thoughts, a hand reached for my face and rubbed my hair. It caused
to jolt back a little and glare at Lynn.
"What are you doing-?"
I asked, my eyes narrowing.
"Ah-! Sorry! Did I startle you? That was not my intention, I just...wanted to grab your attention sohow. I always had a crush on you, so I want to take this opportunity to get close to you...of course, that is not the only reason I asked you out today."
Lynn quickly added before I could stand up and leave. He looked a little uncomfortable as he bared his soul in front of .
I felt a little speechless to hear that confession since it was the first (not counting Theo because he was a special case) in my life.
Most ogas talked about being confessed to with a giggle in their words and even movies romanticized it a lot. But all I felt was a slight flutter in my chest and nothing much...or so I told myself.
On the other hand, my face went red and I looked away from the alpha.
"I-I...so, what is the real reason you asked
out?"
I finally voiced the words that were stuck in my chest and completely ignored the confession part. I was not ready to face those words yet.
"Huh-? So you are ignoring the confession part, huh? Well, we can co back to that later. For now...let’s talk business. When did you manage to return and why did you hide your identity?"
Lynn asked, his voice turning curious. I understood his question since I would have similar questions had Eric done the sa to .
So I decided to answer Lynn’s questions.
"I ca back not too long ago. It’s been one month...two I think...? Funnily enough, you are one of the first people I t when I ca back. As far as I can recall, I fainted as soon as I ca back and was admitted to the hospital for 3 days before I made a break for it."
I told the alpha and he looked surprised to hear those words.
"Huh-! Talk about destiny. I knew we had sothing special going on....anyway, are you going to co back as a hunter? If so, do you need my help?"
Lynn asked, choosing to not focus on the first part of what he was saying and emphasizing the help part.
And I really appreciated the offer. But I wanted nothing to do with the hunter world anymore.
"I am...not sure if I want to return to being a hunter or not. The only reason I decided to co check this dungeon out was because I t Kuro and got curious. As you know, we have never really seen dungeon creatures outside a dungeon before, so I wanted to make sure it was a fluke."
I told Lynn, and he looked serious as well.
"Speaking of that...what do you think about the current situation? It doesn’t look normal, right? But your expression tells
this is not the first ti you have seen this situation unfold."
Lynn asked
and I thought about how much I should tell him.
If possible, I did not want to involve him in what was about to happen. He deserved to live a carefree life.
But I was also not narcissistic enough to think I would be able to handle what was going to happen alone.
A single high priest in the past had taken out the elitist team humanity had. I had only gotten lucky because of my attributes and gotten out alive.
From what I could understand, that high priest was not complete either and lacked most of his power. Would we really be able to survive a full-scale attack?
"I did see a high priest before...in that final dungeon. And I also think I saw a glimpse of the ’god’ these creatures talk about as well. If so, I don’t think we have a chance. But we need to try at least."
I told Lynn and for the first ti, his expression looked grim as well.
"I see. So the situation is that dire. In that case, I do understand why you decided to keep it all hidden. It will cause too much panic if the truth cos to light."
The alpha sighed as he realized the huge burden that ca with this knowledge.
However, the knowledge was not what was important here, but the answer. What should we do now?
"For now, I will try to gather the top guilds and reach an understanding with them. If nothing else, we need to defend ourselves at least. Humanity will not bow down to an external threat so easily."
Lynn was right, but I still had a feeling that would not be enough.
But what else could we even do but fight back at this point? That was all we were left with.
