Chapter 64: Ch 64: Secret Out- Part 1
There were a lot of things that went through my mind as I escaped the dungeon with my current companions. And I had the answers within my reach as well.
All I needed to do was take out the black mass from my pocket and shake it. Then, I would know whatever I wanted to from it.
But the problem with this? There were people around
that I did not want to know that I had a relationship with a monster.
Even if it was a purely beneficial relationship on my side, I did not want to create a misunderstanding.
"I can see the gate. Let’s hurry up and cross it."
Lynn spoke as he picked up pace. I wanted to pick up pace as well, but the useless alpha behind , Klein, had slowed down significantly.
"S-Slow down. I have no stamina left."
Klein complained as he shifted Joshua on his back. His face was pale and lifeless as he tugged his feet toward the end.
I suddenly felt sorry for him and I turned around to tell him to hand Joshua over to . But the second I did that, I had a sudden feeling soone was looking at .
There was a presence in the far corner of the dungeon that caused shivers to go down my spine. It was much too powerful to belong to this dungeon.
"H-Hey, what are you doing? We need to run—"
Klein reached
and put a hand on my shoulder to lean against. I could not tell if he was trying to grab my attention or secretly lean against
because he was tired.
"Do you not feel that presence far away? It feels so dangerous."
I asked the panting alpha, and he tsked in an annoyed manner.
"Look, we don’t have ti for this. Maybe you should think about all this another ti? For now, you should run with
to get out of this dungeon."
The alpha reminded , and I had no choice but to follow after him. But still, my eyes kept going back to the place where I could feel that bone-chilling presence looking at
from.
I exited the dungeon, but I knew that I had to co back here... if only to take a look for my own sake.
"Hey, you made it back? Where is boss—? Joshua—! You brute... unhand him."
Sam saw
first and his face lit up... before he looked behind
and saw that Joshua was being carried by the very alpha he did not like.
Klein had no chance to defend himself before he was smacked by Sam and made to let go of Joshua’s unconscious body.
"H-HEY—! BE CAREFUL. Do you know how difficult it was for
to carry him out of that dungeon alive? You could show so gratitude toward ."
Klein complained as he rubbed his shoulder where he had been hit. But Sam did not care and pulled Joshua close to him.
I saw Klein flinch and unconsciously reach out toward Joshua before the alpha held himself back. Finally, curling his fists, he looked back and decided to head back toward his team.
"Tsk, as if I will be grateful toward him when he is the reason our team shattered in the first place."
Sam complained under his breath, mainly because he did not want
to listen to those words in case I got hurt by them.
But the joke was on him because I could not care less about all this.
[O-Oh dear—! This was not supposed to happen. Well, seeing as we all had to suspend this semi-finals due to so trouble, I will have to talk to our supervisors about what we should do next. I apologize for all this ss.]
The announcer sounded troubled over what happened, and he had good reason to do so as well.
Never in his life had he seen a bigger ss than the current dungeon situation. He had no idea what to tell the audience, much less the contestants.
"Boo—!"
"We paid so much money for the tickets, only to see this—"
"Where is our money? We want it back—"
As expected, the audience did not take it well. They had high expectations for this competition and they were not settling down.
Just when I thought things could not get any worse, they did sohow get worse.
[Everyone, please calm down. I have a suggestion to make here. How about, instead of the dungeon competition, we have a team-vs-team match to decide the champion? Of course, the top rankers won’t be allowed to use their full power. But it should make for a fun ti, right?]
The sudden announcent from Ace’s voice left everyone stunned. No one had expected him to speak up, much less talk about it.
"O-Oh—! What the hell—! Is that... Ace?"
"Ace is suggesting an open fight? Heh—! How exciting—"
"This sounds so much fun. I suddenly want to see this happen."
The audience suddenly cald down and looked engaged with the proposal, and I felt a stab of irritation seeing them acting like this.
They really were easy to influence and easy to make forget what they were annoyed about in the first place. All the association needed to use was their illusion of ’Ace,’ and everything would be fine.
’Tsk, I feel so irritated that they are using my na like that. I really want to cause so ss for them now.’
I had never felt like this when I worked for the association. This situation made
realize how much of a puppet I had been before to not even question anything.
[N-Now that we have decided to have a team-vs-team match, we need so ti to prepare. But don’t worry about the excitent. We will have plenty of excitent tomorrow.]
The announcer announced as he bid the audience farewell. It was also ti for us teams to head back to their rooms and have so rest.
"Manet, I am going to get Joshua checked by the doctor. Are you going to return to our rooms now?"
Sam asked in a tired voice. He almost looked ready to cry, and I felt sorry for him. The way he looked at Joshua as if his world was coming to an end reminded
too much of the people of my past.
I did not want to look at Sam anymore, so I nodded.
"Yeah, I will be returning to my room now. Please keep
updated on how Joshua is doing and whether we need to drop out of the championship or not."
Sam looked shocked, almost as if that thought had not even crossed his mind until now. But now that the seed of doubt had been planted in his mind, he seed to be considering it.
"Hmm, we shall see. I want to let Joshua wake up and ask him what he wants to do as well. It should be a collective decision from our side as a team after all."
The beta told , and I nodded before I headed back to my room.
correction
I tried to head back to my room, only for my wrist to be grabbed and to be pulled to a side by Lynn.
