Chapter 43: Ch 43: Ace is back - Part 5
I activated the ID, Manet, but there was almost no activity on that account... not that I expected anything else from it.
But with one of the bigger problems resolved, I was left with two more major issues at hand—what do I do about work while I sneak around dungeon #36 and where do I find a team to participate in the championship?
The forr was the more pressing matter and I decided to talk to Emma about it.
The next morning was a monuntal one for
because of a few reasons.
First, for the first ti in a while, Theo was not in my room when I woke up and he was already working in the café when I arrived.
He gave
a happy wave when I approached, but Ben’s sharp voice caused Theo to frown and go back to work.
I watched him for a whole minute, not even realizing that my eyes were glued to him before Emma coughed to catch my attention.
"You must really like Theo to be watching him so intently. Did you fall for him or sothing?"
Emma asked in a teasing voice and I noticed attention piquing over this topic. I decided to be truthful to Emma this ti.
"I do like Theo. He’s like a puppy that never runs out of energy and I like that about him. I don’t want him to ever change."
Theo’s back was toward
but I still noticed his neck getting red after I complinted him. Emma also let out a muffled laugh at that.
"I see. That’s good. You both need people you can rely on and not be alone once both Ben and I die.... Don’t give us that look. We are both old, and humans don’t live forever. Anyway, what was I here to tell you..."
Emma effortlessly changed the topic before it beca too heavy and I did not have the heart to change it back to the previous heavy one.
After thinking for over a minute, Emma finally seed to recall what she wanted to say.
"Ah yes, I rember what I ca here to tell you. We will be closing the PC Café during the days of the hunter’s championship. We are too close to the dungeon where the championship is being held, so it is a necessary precaution. Don’t worry, we do get compensated for this."
Emma assured
with a smile on her face and just like that... she had eliminated a huge worry I was having about what to do about work.
"I-I see. What are your plans for that ti then?"
I asked Emma, wanting to know more and keeping the conversation going.
"Hmm, both Ben and I are going to watch the championship, so I guess we will do that this year as well. What about you, Kyle? You and Theo want to co as well? I am sure I can secure two more tickets."
Emma assured
and Theo looked interested in the championship. He kept sneaking glances to agree.
"Theo, are you interested in the championship? Do you want to go and see it?"
I asked Theo and he nodded with an excited expression on his face.
"Yes, I want to go with you, Kyle. I am excited to see the championship."
Theo spoke and joy radiated on his face and eyes. It felt a little too burdenso for
so I turned my head toward Emma to avoid that gaze.
"Emma, looks like Theo is excited to go to the championship. You should secure him a seat. As for ... I likely won’t be able to co. My heat would be arriving that day and I don’t want to risk it. I guess I will ride this one out naturally."
I told Emma and she looked sorry for . Even Theo looked shocked and sad at my explanation.
"I-If Kyle is not going, then I also don’t—"
"Don’t be stupid, Theo. This is a once-in-a-lifeti experience for most people, so you should definitely go. Who knows, maybe you will recall sothing if you go."
I told Theo but he still looked unhappy with my words. However, he did not complain anymore and decided to follow my lead.
’Finally, one problem is resolved. Now, I just need to find a team that would take
in and help
get into the dungeon. I am sure I would be able to find at least one fodder team.’
I had looked at the competition stats for the past few years and noticed that most of the teams that participated in the championship were fodder ones that never went further than round one.
And I wanted to be part of one of those teams as well. That way, I would be able to get into the competition without much attention drawn toward .
I went to sleep with that thought in mind and felt my body relax.
Sothing heavy pressed down on my senses and I felt panicked for just a second before I relaxed.
The next thing I knew, I was stuck in my dreams, not wanting to get up.
______
In the dead of the night, Kyle’s room door opened quietly and a figure entered.
The tall and intimidating figure of Theo walked toward Kyle’s bed and looked down at him. There was no gentleness on the alpha’s face as he looked at the sleeping oga in front of him.
"You don’t know how much I have to hold back because of you. I even seal most of my powers and mories so that I can pretend to be a fool for you. I wonder when you will realize it and co back to ."
The speaker was Theo, and the voice that ca out of that mouth was Theo’s. But the way the person spoke felt nothing like Theo.
He looked at Kyle for a few more minutes, before he heard the sudden shudder coming from the nightstand and saw the black mass in the bottle.
"M-My lord-! You are back... you are here to give
my salvation? Oh my! I waited for this mont all my life. What do I—"
The mass continued to babble but Theo had stopped paying attention to him long ago.
After all, the only one in his eyes was Kyle.
"—will do anything for you. You just need to tell
what you need, my lord."
The black mass continued to babble and Theo finally turned to look at him.
"Will you do anything for ? Then, I have a favor to ask of you. My partner is going to do sothing foolish soon. I want you to protect him with your life if it cos down to it. In return, I will give you what you want after your death."
The black mass vibrated with excitent at that offer.
"O-Of course, my lord. You can count on
for that. I will make sure your chosen person does not get hurt... or anything. I will look after him with all my might."
The black mass promised before Theo stood up and with a last touch to Kyle’s face, he left the room. Once the morning arrives, he had to act like a love-sick fool once more... not that it would be a complete act.
After all, he did love Kyle.
