Chapter 26: Ch 26: The Invitation - Part 2

When I had agreed to go out for dinner with Rhiner, I had foreseen a lot of problems I could run into.

However, the problem of having an alpha taller and heavier than

clinging to

and giving

puppy eyes, begging

not to go, was not one of them.

"Kyle, you can’t go and leave

alone. If you’re going, then I am going as well."

Theo complained as he tightened his grip around my middle. He had to kneel to be able to hold

properly and his face looked up from near my stomach.

I would likely have found this situation extrely funny, had it not been happening to

specifically.

Also, Ben’s barely concealed laughter did not help my mood at all.

"It’s just a small dinner, Theo. I will be back before you even know it. I promise you this. Can you let

go now?"

I asked with as much patience as I could show at the mont. And Theo did seem to consider what I had asked of him.

But ultimately, he decided to be stubborn and keep clinging to . I had no choice but to deploy my tactics as well.

Sigh

"You asked for it. Don’t bla

too much for what is about to happen to you."

I warned before I let out my pheromones. Theo was distracted enough for

to use my powers and put him to sleep.

I made sure that Ben was a little distracted and not looking my way before I acted, so I was able to act quickly when the system popped up.

[Warning: User has used sleep status.]

The system warned

and I instantly pushed it away before Ben noticed.

"Huh-! What happened here? Kyle, did you do sothing?"

Ben asked as he looked at Theo’s unconscious form in my arms. But I made a panicked face and widened my eyes so that I looked much more innocent than I actually was.

"I-I don’t know what happened. But he doesn’t seem hurt or anything. Maybe my pheromones shocked him or sothing."

Ben seed to be considering my words, but doubt was beginning to creep up in his eyes.

Thankfully, before he could question

more, my phone rang. The number was unknown but this timing could belong to only one person.

"Looks like Rhiner is here to pick

up. Ben, please put Theo back to bed. I need to go now."

I made a quick exit and Ben just sighed as he was left alone.

Rhiner was waiting for

outside the café and a lot of people seed to be sneaking glances his way.

The mont I heard the loud noises of people around , I had a feeling that Rhiner had done sothing he was not supposed to.

"-hey, he has flowers. Do you think he’s here to pick up his date? We should report this online."

"-so romantic-"

"-sensational news-"

The voices filtered in and out of people’s mouths and I only heard half of them before I turned around and went to an empty corner to pick up Rhiner’s call.

"Hello. Kyle, I am waiting outside. Where are you—"

"Do you want the whole world to know that you are here? Why would you bring flowers... and show your face in public like this?"

I asked in a slightly angry voice but Rhiner sounded confused when he replied back.

"Huh-! Did I do sothing wrong? I will correct anything you tell

to."

It was my turn to feel a headache incoming.

’Does this man seriously not see what is wrong? Then again, many hunters who made it big during my ti also thought of attention as natural and not sothing to be bothered by.’

Since this was the case, I decided to be frank and tell the man what he did wrong.

"I don’t want all these people butting into my business. You either get rid of them or find a way to et without alerting others."

There was silence on the other part before Rhiner spoke up once more.

"Oh-! I did not realize... of course-! You are a civilian, so you might not be used to all this attention or want it even. For now I will head to Luminous Guild and you can visit after 10 minutes. We can leave from our secret underground area."

Rhiner presented a solution to

that sounded acceptable.

"Alright. I will head there as soon as possible."

Once the call was cut off, I hurried outside to check on the situation. Rhiner had already left and that prompted others to leave quickly as well.

Once the coast was clear, I crossed the street and entered the Luminous Guild. And I imdiately noticed the oga receptionist who sent

away when I was here last ti.

Her eyes t mine and I could tell from the flush on her face that she recognized .

However, unlike last ti, she pretended she had not seen

and I almost walked over to her to continue where we had left off last ti.

But it was the secretary’s lucky day because just as I took a step toward her, Rhiner appeared in front of .

"You are finally here. We should get going now. Ah, before I forget, here—these flowers are for you. Showing up empty-handed did not feel right to ."

Rhiner handed

the flowers which I took.

I was not particularly fond of flowers given like this. To , they looked better on actual plants than to be taken out and gifted.

But I was also not rude enough to keep him waiting. So when he gestured for

to follow, I decided to follow him to the elevator.

The close and cramped space of the elevator made Rhiner’s alpha pheromones surround

instantly. But it was not like I could hold my breath either.

So I endured and breathed the alpha pheromones without showing that they affected .

Rhiner showed no reaction to this, so he either did not notice what was happening, or he did not care about it at all.

We reached his car, and he opened the passenger seat for

to get inside. I gave him a soft nod before I got into the car as well.

The drive was mostly silent with soft music in the background.

Neither I nor Rhiner had much to say to each other, and when either of us tried to start a small conversation, we had no idea how to continue.

’Well, carrying small conversations was certainly not a part of my training program. Tsk, I should research this when I have ti. It will help

integrate more into normal society.’

I looked outside the window, but all I saw were the underground walls of the passage we were taking.

But it did not take long before we resurfaced and the city lights looked beautiful as they reflected on the car glass.

Ten years ago, the city had not been nearly as big or bright as it currently looked in my eyes. I felt myself getting lost in those lights as ti passed and before I knew it, we had reached the restaurant where Rhiner booked us for dinner.
