Chapter 25: Ch 25: The Invitation - Part 1
"Hello, dear custor. How may I help you today?"
I asked, stressing at the custor part so that I could get my ssage across to Rhiner to not cause a scene.
But either my ssage did not get across or Rhiner chose to ignore it completely and present
with the bouquet of flowers he brought.
"I ca here to apologize today... about the whole dungeon part. It was wrong of
to drag you along, especially once I knew you were a civilian. You could have been in extre danger because of
and I—anyway, here. Take these flowers as my first sign of apology. I will take responsibility for you."
Rhiner was not shy to look
in the eyes when he said that.
I almost choked on air when I heard what he was saying. And I could tell that I was not the only one.
The others around
gasped out at the confession as well.
’Shit-! Has the alpha gone stupid because of what happened at the dungeon or sothing? What nonsense is he spouting? Taking responsibility for ? In what regard?’
Speculating was not going to do much, so I cald myself down and decided to ask the alpha outright.
"Excuse , but what do you... an exactly? And also, I cannot accept the flowers because I have nowhere to keep them. How about you donate them sowhere else where they would be better appreciated."
I asked in a calm voice. I tried to smile back but my face felt frozen in shock.
The alpha in front of
had the nerve to not even look uncomfortable as he looked
in the eyes and spoke.
"I ant what I said: I would take responsibility for you. Be it your therapy bill or education bill, I will pay them all. So you are free to do anything you want to with your life."
Rhiner spoke confidently and people around
sighed in disappointnt as the real aning of his words ca forward.
Most of these people were really looking forward to so drama they could share online and get so views.
Not that they still could not do that with the power of editing and online clout.
’Looks like I might need to ask Emma for a favor... or maybe Rhiner’s PR team will take care of this stuff? Ugh, I am too tired of thinking about all this to care right now.’
"I’ll think about it. Is that all you ca here to tell ?"
I asked with a straight face and the alpha faltered. He looked confused at my indifference.
That was the problem with alphas, especially the successful ones. They expected people to never reject them or show indifference toward them.
Not that successful ogas or betas were any different, but alphas had a short temper and a pride to match that ca with an increase in alpha hormones.
In easier terms, it was easy to get them riled up and annoy them.
Already, I could tell that Rhiner was not happy with my indifference but he kept his hands in a fist by his side and did not act on his feelings.
"I actually ca here to ask you out to dinner so that we could discuss more about what you might need and where I could help you. Do you think you have ti—"
"Kyle, where are you? Did you leave
alone—"
Theo’s watery voice reached my ears and I turned to look at the employee door seconds before Theo ca out and reached my side.
I imdiately noticed that Theo was a little taller than Rhiner and he towered over . Theo paused as he took in Rhiner before his attention snapped back toward .
"You said you would wait for
before ending your break. Why did you leave
all alone? I wanted to co with you."
Theo complained as he wrapped his arms around
from my side before he pressed his face on top of my head.
From my position, I could not see what expression Theo was making, but it was likely not a good one if the annoyance on Rhiner’s face was anything to go by.
"Kyle, I—"
"Kyle, stop leaving
behind or I will get angry. Can you promise to at least tell
when you head out of my sight?"
Rhiner got even more frustrated when his sentence was cut off by Theo and his insisting voice.
At this point, even I could tell that Theo was doing this on purpose and Rhiner was getting frustrated.
But purposely or not, Rhiner was not soone Theo could take on. Especially since Rhiner was an A-class hunter.
So, I needed to diate things before they got bad.
"Theo, I promise to tell you next ti. Now calm down and go take other orders. I need to finish my talk with Rhiner."
I quickly made the decision to send Theo away and his lips wobbled as he looked back at .
"B-But Kyle-! What about—"
He tried speaking but my indifference and harsh expression made him quieten down.
"Theo, please don’t be difficult right now. Now go."
I told him and Theo finally went away. But not before he gave Rhiner one last glare. I could only sigh as I watched this happen before I turned toward Rhiner.
"Please don’t mind Theo. He’s a good kid. He’s a little clingy because he lost his mory and temporarily imprinted on . You don’t need to worry about him too much."
I assured Rhiner, but as soon as these words went out of my mouth, I felt like frowning.
’Why am I trying to clarify these things in front of an alpha? There is no need for Rhiner to know about my relationships with others.’
That was what my mind told , but my instincts told
a different story—that I needed to be careful and handle a strong and angry alpha with care.
I suddenly realized that my instincts were like this because I was losing my sharpness.
I used to train every day before and also be alert about danger. That’s why my inner oga was strong and vicious. But now that I had no need to train, my inner oga was also getting lax.
’Tsk, this is not good. I might have left behind the hunter life, but I do not want my inner oga to beco like this. I guess I will go back to training every day from tomorrow.’
I frowned before I looked at the hunter in front of .
Rhiner forced a smile on his face, but his eyes showed worry.
"Ah, is that so? I think I understand what’s going on. But still, I would like to ask you to be careful of that young alpha and make sure if he has truly lost his mory or not. Maybe he has ulterior motives with staying by your side."
Rhiner spoke these words and it almost felt like he was gritting his teeth when he spoke.
I gave him a calm look that betrayed nothing of what I actually thought.
Finally, Rhiner ca back to the question he ca to ask.
"So, about that dinner—"
"I will be there. Just give
the ti and place I need to be at."
"Don’t worry. I will pick you up tonight. Just make sure you are ready by 8."
