Chapter 74: Chapter 74
"Gina, are still upset with
for not taking you with
to the north?" Alia looked over her shoulder to where Gina stood tying up the back of her dress. They had both been pretty silent since their talk and Alia could no longer take it.
"Of course I am upset but what can I do about it? I’ve had so ti to think and I realize that if I go along with you, you’ll not only have to look out for your safety but mine as well. Whereas Cyrus can protect both of you. I just...I just," Gina paused and took a deep breath. "I just don’t like letting you go alone. I’m afraid those people will treat you badly even though you are their queen."
"However," Gina continued. "I understand how much faith you are placing in
to watch over your grandmother and I will accept the task. I always felt like you have only found Cyrus to be useful and I am going to show you how much use I am by watching over your grandmother."
"Gina, that’s far from the truth. You and Cyrus are both useful to
in different ways and I have never appreciated one over the other. Cyrus is useful when it cos to protecting and steering
from danger. You are useful for keeping
up to date with what I do not know has happened, you comfort , you aid
every day, and so much more."
"Of course, as your maid, I must do those things," said Gina.
"Gina, I’ve had plenty of maids by my side but none have done the things you are willing to do for . I like to tease you but sotis I feel like I am pestering you to do more than what your job entails-"
"Never," Gina swung Alia around to face her. She was careful not to make Alia trip on her dress and fall. "Use
as much as you want!"
"Ugh, I don’t like the way that sounds but if you say so," Alia smiled.
"Alia," Gina placed her hand on Alia’s shoulder. "You have such a dirty mind."
"That’s because of those dirty books you have that I have read. So if there’s anyone’s fault why I am like this, it is yours. I am finished getting ready right?" Alia moved to her mirror to see how she looked.
"My dirty books?" Gina’s mouth fell open. The head maid would strangle her if she were to find out Gina let Alia read that kind of thing. "When on earth did you get your hands on those? How did you even know I had one in my possession?"
’"You do have so?" Alia beca amused by this fact. "I was rely joking. Should we pay a visit to your bedroom to see what else you are hiding from
you naughty little girl," Alia chuckled.
"Certainly not! Do not think negatively of . A single lady like myself has to find entertainnt sohow so I read books instead of doing things like..like...I am not discussing this with you to get in trouble with the head maid. Out! Out! Go out and get sothing to eat," Gina started to push Alia towards the door.
"Why are you pushing
away when I am curious to know just exactly what it is you have to do if you don’t read books? Will you go to be with a man who sells his body? I am not naive," Alia chuckled as Gina started to push her out the door with more strength.
"What are the two of you doing?" Cyrus opened the door and ask. He could hear the two of them being loud from the outside.
"We’re talking about Gina’s naughty books-"
Gina clamped her hand over Alia’s mouth to stop her from revealing her secret. "Say another word and I will ruin your hair I spent so much ti perfecting," she gave a warning.
"I already know about those books," said Cyrus.
Alia began to laugh while Gina looked as if her soul left her body.
"What do you an by you already know? What could you possibly know about what I read?"
"I visited your room many tis and noticed one of those books under your bed. That’s not a good hiding place as the first thing soone sees when they open your door is your bed and whatever is under it. You seem to have such a wild collection of them. Wow," Cyrus dodged a punch Gina threw at him. "You cannot be upset at
for seeing them when you had them right at the front of your bed."
"If I ever need help when it cos to those things, I will visit our little expert here," Alia joked.
"I hate the both of you," Gina started to walk ahead of Alia and Cyrus. They were so annoying at tis but she was going to miss the three of them being together when Alia must leave for the north. Rather than being upset, she should cherish the ti they could spend together now and hide her books.
"Wait up for the two of us, Gina. I promise I won’t tease you about your books any longer. Co on," Alia grabbed Cyrus’s hand and pulled him along to catch up with Gina. She didn’t know how much longer she would have survived in the castle if not for Cyrus and Gina.
"I believe you were told a princess should not run around," Cyrus reminded her of a lesson he overheard when she was with one of her tutors.
"I swear, you’re as draining as that old woman was. Have a little fun with us and stop thinking about what tutors said. When am I going to chase after Gina like this any ti soon?" Alia painfully spoke as she ran. "My ti here will soon co to an end."
"I do not see it that way, princess. I think you might be back here sooner than you think."
"Are you trying to say my marriage to Killian will be over quickly?" Alia slowed down her pace and looked at Cyrus.
"As much as I would want that, I don’t think that’s the case. I just have an intuition that you will return and sothing great will follow along with sothing bad. It’s been years since I have felt like there is sothing in the future awaiting us so do not say goodbye to the people here. It’s more of until we et again," said Cyrus.
"They an the sa thing to
but I understand. Besides, if Killian is a man of his word I should be able to visit but Fraser and I will clash. Perhaps I should buy a house close to the castle so that when I return, I don’t have to be here at night. I’m starting to understand my grandmother," Alia smiled, thinking of how Margaret loved being outside the castle. "Cyrus, I need you to check up on all the land that I bought and look for soone to be a puppet in my absence."
When Fraser becos king, he will have to get on the good side of those who own land around the kingdom. He will want to be well-liked by the rich and have their support with any decision he makes in the future. Alia had not used her na on the docunts she signed for the land. She used a na that her mother had given to her but not just anyone would know.
Alia wanted a puppet to play the owner in her absence so that anything Fraser wanted to be done on her land, he would have to ask her for permission and most likely she would deny it. As king, he could make an order to do as he wanted but the approval would take a while.
"You no longer have to hold what you have in your possession. Fraser nor anyone else in this castle can harm you now that you are to wed the king of the north. Show them what you hold and have them tremble as they know they cannot take it away from you," Cyrus advised Alia as it was pointless to continue hiding the fact she had been buying up land.
Instead of a puppet, Fraser would have to speak with Alia and beg her for whatever he wanted.
"That doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Still, I cannot leave the things that I own unattended. Who knows what sly trick will be pulled to try and steal them? I don’t want to burden my grandmother with it when she already has to watch over Fraser. I’m thinking," Alia stared at the back of Gina as she walked ahead. "I place soone I trust in a higher position. For all the things that Gina has helped , it’s ti she becos more than a maid."
"I trust that she will remain loyal to you but she is not used to cruel tricks like you are, princess. Luckily, there is soone who has always looked out for you and will help guide Gina. I believe Killian has released him from his cell. You should visit Leonard," said Cyrus.
