Chapter 354: Chapter 354
Killian wasn’t happy with having to go anywhere with Cyrus to get close to him when he hardly cared for the man, but eventually, Alia’s smile as she spoke to Cyrus convinced him to get rid of the hatred he had for Cyrus just one day.
Killian, like Alastor, remained quiet while Alia and Gina asked Cyrus about his ti away. Occasionally the children would jump in to ask about when Cyrus was Alia’s guard.
In the midst of Kila questioning Cyrus about his travels through the underworld, Alia slipped her from her lap to hold Killian’s hand. She knew he wasn’t pleased with her asking him to go sowhere with Cyrus for them to bond, but he wasn’t complaining. He was making an effort for her and at so point, she was going to thank him in a way he would like.
Killian didn’t react to her hold on his hand at first, but when she gave his hand a little squeeze, Killian responded by squeezing her hand back. He would have preferred if she would be so bold to reach for other places and try to fool around under the table, but he would settle with this.
After almost an hour of things he didn’t care to hear about, Killian looked forward to peacefully laying in bed with his wife. The children would be off to their beds, Alastor and Gina having ti to themselves, and Cyrus far out of his sight.
It was music to Killian’s ears when Alia’s fork made a small noise as it was placed on her plate. He followed her by setting down his fork.
"It is ti for all of you to go to bed. You can hear more stories tomorrow. Mara, make sure they all head to their rooms and stay there. Anyone who doesn’t go to bed won’t join us for our trip to the underworld," Killian said, knowing it would be a good threat to make them go right to sleep.
"I will. Co on," Mara said, standing up to lead her siblings to their rooms. She saw Silas already yawning and Aydan sat with her eyes closed. Kila would be the problem since she never wanted to go to sleep when their mother or father said they needed to. "Kila, take Silas and I will lift Aydan."
Alia watched the children group up and walked out of the dining hall. She knew that before one of them could go inside their room, they would ntion playing a ga, and she would have to show up to force them to bed. Killian would also have to appear before them to give them a look that would send them to bed.
"Cyrus, you must already know where your room is," Alia said, turning her focus to him now that the children were gone. "I would love to keep catching up with you, but it is ti I retire for bed. I need to be up early in the morning to deal with matters in the north."
"It is fine for you to head to bed. I want to take a walk around the town to see what else has changed. Good night," Cyrus bid her goodbye.
"We will see the two of you in the morning," Alia said to Alastor and Gina as Killian helped her stand. She knew he was impatient to be alone with her and the feeling was mutual.
Killian stood up, continuing to hold Alia’s hand, and after a quick goodbye to Alastor and Gina, they left to head to their room.
Alia rested her head on Killian’s shoulder as they walked. "There has been so much to look over these days. I am more tired than usual. I need a really long nap to be prepared to deal with more problems tomorrow. What can I do to convince you to lift ?’ She asked.
"Just ask," Killian replied, stopping to sweep Alia off her feet. "I’ve told you to take more breaks throughout the day. I was looking forward to our ti in bed. I wanted to talk."
"I doubt that, but if you are serious, we can still talk. We can talk until I fall asleep. So many years later I have not grown accustod to being wide awake at night. Since you want to spend ti together, how about we take a trip, just the two of us?" Alia suggested.
"I don’t want to hear much about trips after the terrible one you are sending
on with that man."
"That is for you to see that he is not a bad person and for Silas to have fun with you. Please do this for
and not be angry with him while you are away from the castle. You must rember that Cyrus helped to keep
safe. I don’t see why you would not like him unless you really believe sothing happened between us in the past. Do you question my loyalty-"
"I do not," Killian replied before Alia could assu the worst. He knew she wouldn’t cheat on him with Cyrus. He was never worried about Alia. It was the people around her and from the first ti he saw Cyrus, he was always annoyed that Cyrus wasn’t doing his job of protecting Alia well. "I will try to be nice to him but don’t expect too much."
"Thank you. We can still take a break out of the castle without the children if you want. They are old enough to not cry after us this ti. I would love to take off my crown and walk around with you sowhere like a normal couple. Perhaps, we can have fun and try for one more child. It is out of our control, but a boy would be nice," Alia said.
Killian stopped to look at Alia to try to sense a lie. "Then we should leave the castle tomorrow and call for your mother to help look after the children. They won’t notice we are gone once she is here. And have Gina bring her children to help distract them."
"Killian, it is best for you to not believe that our children will not notice we are gone. Aydan cos looking for us in the middle of the night and then Silas. We should just tell them we are going to spend so ti alone. They will understand as long as we promise to bring them gifts. It would have to be sowhere nearby," Alia said, thinking of a place close to the castle.
"I already know where we can go. I have been aning to show you the ho I’ve prepared for when our ti as king and queen cos to an end. Our future ho near the border is ready for us. It will be so years until we need it, but it would make a good place to get away from the castle," said Killian.
"When have you been preparing this? I thought you were going to ask that we live in the underworld since I am able to stay there. I look forward to seeing our future ho. Should we-"
"Mother."
Alia sighed, but she wasn’t unhappy about the interruption. "You are supposed to be in bed, Silas. This is not the direction of your bedroom. What happened, Mara?" Alia asked as Mara, Kila, and Aydan were not far behind Silas.
"We want to sleep with you tonight," Aydan said, running to catch up to Silas.
"If you are going on a trip and leaving us, we should get to sleep with you tonight. Please. I don’t want to sleep alone," Silas said, pleading with his eyes to convince his mother and father to let him join them in bed.
Alia looked at Killian for his answer. She didn’t mind if the children joined them since there would co a ti when they were grown and didn’t want to share a bed with their parents.
"Co," Killian answered, agreeing to let them join him and Alia in bed. He would have liked to be alone with her, but being with his children was just as great.
Silas and Aydan ran to hug Killian’s leg. Kila slowly approached them and touched her father’s shoulder so he could teleport them to the bedroom.
All that was left was Mara. Alia held out her hand to urge Mara to join them. "Don’t tell
you have beco too old to enjoy a sleepover with your parents?"
Mara shook her head and smiled as she walked over to join them.
The mont Mara touched Killian’s hand, they disappeared from the halls and found themselves falling on the soft mattress of the bed in Alia and Killian’s bedroom.
Alia straightened herself to make room for Silas and Aydan who ca in between her and Killian like they always did. Kila and Mara waited for their younger siblings to get comfortable and then joined them in lying in the middle of their parents.
Alia raked her fingers through Kila’s hair to bring her hair over her shoulder so it would be out of her face. She stayed awake until all the children were fast asleep and then looked over at Killian who was surprisingly sleeping already.
Alia placed her hand over Kila and Silas since they were closer to her and hugged them before closing her eyes to join them in going to sleep.
