Chapter 312: Chapter 312

"The queen is ready to speak with her aunt," the demon said as it opened the door to Beth and Fraser’s cell.

"What about ?" Fraser asked, not moving an inch from where he stood since the demon terrified him.

The demon did not respond to Fraser since he did not have to answer the fallen king. He made a space for Beth to walk out. If the king was foolish to run out, he would be giving up his soul to the hungry demons.

Beth wasn’t surprised that Alia wanted to speak to her alone. There wasn’t much conflict between the two of them so they could co to so closure without there being a screaming match.

Beth stood up and dusted off her dress. "I will speak on your behalf, Fraser. Just stay quiet and wait for my return. For once, do as I say."

Fraser grabbed his mother’s hand. She could not leave him in this place. Not with these people and demons who eyed him like he was their next al. He wanted to go with her to have a word with Alia. It was only fair that as king, Alia should speak to him first since she was trying to take his throne from him.

Fraser knew that Alia was going to let his mother walk out of the castle. His story would have a different ending because of the bad blood between him and Alia.

Beth looked at where Fraser grabbed her hand. "Your father might not be your real father," she confessed.

"I got angry about my arranged marriage to the Adams and had an affair, hoping it would make

happy. It did at the mont. There were tis when I loved my husband and tis when I did not. I am almost certain you are not an Adams and that does not upset . You hold little Blackwell blood, but you were able to sit on the throne. You could have been so much better if not for what I was so blinded by. I will speak on your behalf," she repeated again.

For getting him so wrapped up in the castle, she would try her best to get Alia to not kill him. Fraser would not see it the sa way, but his being locked away in the dungeon was better than dying. She feared what might happen to him when he would go into the underworld.

Beth removed Fraser’s hand that was tight around her own. It did nothing for the two of them for her to argue that she wanted him to co with her now.

"I don’t care about what happened between you and father. You must get

out of here mother," Fraser said, stepping away from her. He already knew about her affairs. What Fraser wanted to hear now was that he was free to leave.

He went back to the wall so he would be out of reach of the demon with the keys and the other people who kept watching him.

Beth exited the cell and looked around for who would be escorting her to Alia.

"The queen is waiting for you in the throne room. Do not run," said the demon.

It was advice Beth did not need to be told. She didn’t know much about demons, but seeing that they could fly and had strange appearances, she didn’t want to try testing if they were good hunters too. She began her journey up out of the dungeon toward the throne room.

As she walked, Beth took in the sight of the castle that was so close to being under her rule. Fraser was the face and her the mastermind behind him. She had gotten so close to the throne that her younger self would have been proud to hear about it.

Beth proved her father wrong about her children not being the ones to sit on the throne. It was always Richard’s child that her father said would claim the throne as the future king, but it was Fraser who had it before Alia.

Beth wasn’t saddened by how it was all ending. It was just proven once more that the throne was sothing she should have stayed away from. She let her desire to prove everyone wrong and claim it for herself, ruin her only son. This was her realisation that she needed to give up and get far away from the castle.

She was hardly a Blackwell because of her father’s actions. Beth was filled with regret for not living the quiet life Margaret forced her into with her husband. Then she could have focused on raising Fraser to be better.

Beth slowed down when she neared the throne room. The mory of Margaret disappearing and becoming a toad cheered her up. She smiled, and in a long ti, it must have been the first genuine one. It was satisfying to know that the woman who tornted her was now gone.

"Alia," Beth greeted her niece as she entered the throne room. She noticed the woman who was claiming to be Anne sat on the throne ant for the queen while Alia sat on the throne ant for the king.

As always, there was a bit of jealousy when she looked at Alia. The princess who achieved so much more despite all the odds against her. It was still hard to swallow that Alia was the one to kill Richard. Beth did not have the guts that Alia did. There was a big difference in how they went about trying to get the throne.

Beth was also jealous of the fact Alia was able to marry a king who loved her. A king who would kill anyone who stood in her way.

"Aunt Beth, co closer," Alia said.

Beth drew closer to the throne until she reached the steps.

"It must be hard for you to leave Fraser behind. I am told that he has not shut up since he entered the dungeon. It is like him to try getting everyone down there to rise up and attack

since I am the bad guy now. Though I am not in the dungeon, there are plenty of eyes keeping watch for . What do you think of

now, aunt Beth?" Alia questioned, curious about what was going through Beth’s mind.

"I think that I should have worked with you to create a path for a princess to sit on the throne if she was a better option than the prince. I had no one by my side in the past and when you had no one, I did not try to help you. It was a great mistake. I could have been a part of sothing wonderful. Instead, I raised Fraser to think the throne was his and never prepared him to be a good king," Beth replied.

"I do like the honesty. It would have been good to have you by my side when I was going against my father and the court. There is nothing we can do now since it has already happened and I understand why you never helped . Why do the hard path when you had a son my father wanted and my grandmother was never kind to you?" Alia answered, putting herself in Beth’s shoes.

Fraser was Beht’s quickest way to the throne. Alia couldn’t say with all her heart that she would have done differently from Beth if she had been in her aunt’s position. Margaret made it quite hard for Beth to be in the castle and considering Alia was close to her grandmother in the past, she would have kept her distance from her aunt to not have the two won fighting.

"I am not angry with you for pushing Fraser ahead of

to take the throne. I have to admit that without my marriage to Killian, the throne wouldn’t have been mine in the end. I started off wanting the throne and nothing more, but as I sit on it now, I can tell you that there are other things that feel better than this throne. Other things that make

happy that I wouldn’t think could in the past," Alia said.

Alia had always believed that only the throne would make her happy. That only throne could make her feel complete. She closed off her heart to everyone but a small handful of people and focused on the throne.

Now her eyes looked away from the throne to the new people in her life. A big part of her still wanted the throne and she was not going to give it up, but she realised how much she needed to have other things she cherished in life and luckily, many followed after her marriage.

"I am sure like I have found happiness, you could find it too. I don’t doubt you would have made a good ruler in place of my father. I have no intention of killing you as you have suffered enough in this castle. I am letting you go. You are free to search around for what will make you happy and if you don’t hate

so much, there will be a spot for you in the court when you have found that happiness and return. I will open positions in court to won," Alia revealed.

"And by hate you, you an?" Beth questioned though she already knew the answer.

"Your son will not be released from the dungeon."
