Chapter 199: Chapter 199

Beth looked out the window at the hos they passed by on their way back to the Blackwell castle. She ignored Fraser who was doing all that he could to make her acknowledge him. She wasn’t pleased with how Fraser conducted himself today or other days. No one was taking him seriously as the next king of this kingdom. All her efforts were being wasted.

"Mother," Fraser spoke up as he could no longer wait out the silence for her to speak first. "When will you be on my side?"

"You are my son, Fraser. I am always on your side but it does not an I will accept this behavior and arrogance you have. You have done nothing great to be so arrogant. The north and this kingdom are back on bad terms-"

"They will not do anything now that Alia is queen," Fraser reminded his mother. His stubborn cousin loved their kingdom too much to allow her husband to destroy it.

"First you say she will have no power in the north but when you cause trouble you say she will stop her husband. Which is it, Fraser? Do you truly believe Alia could hold that man back if you hurt more of his people or insult him? The things I heard you have said," Beth touched her forehead as it still ached from her worrying about what would happen next. "Why would you look down on your cousin before Killian?"

"Why can’t I? She has looked down on

for years because she lived in the castle but I did not. It is my turn to knock her back down so she knows her place. I’m sure Killian controls her in private so I don’t see why he would care about what I say. Perhaps he wants to be the only one who gets to speak to her as he pleased," said Fraser.

Beth wanted to laugh at Fraser’s words but it would only anger him more and she wasn’t in the mood to put up with it. "The king of the north fancies your cousin already. If you did not notice it today then I am telling you now that he loves Alia so it will not end well for you to talk down to your cousin when he is around. Matter of fact, bite your tongue when you are around her," she advised him.

"Won always think the groom is happily in love with them while his thoughts are solely on bedding his new wife. That man does not care for her. He is amused that we have offered a princess to him who can use to his liking," Fraser replied.

"Him grabbing your throat for the way you spoke to her wasn’t enough to convince you that he does in fact love her?" Beth said, reminding him of why Killian had attacked him in the first place. They all thought they were sending Alia off to a life of horror but it was the opposite. Alia caught the eyes of a powerful king who deeply cared for her. Beth was truly glad to see that a marriage for a princess to save ties was working out well.

"Tsk," Fraser looked out the window, irritated by her bringing up what happened in the eting. He would never be able to look into the eyes of everyone present unless he did sothing big. Killian made a fool out of him and then even more when he had them rush to get off the northern land. "You don’t understand anything. Ow!" He touched the back of his head where his mother smacked him.

Not once in his life had she laid a hand on him. She would not allow any of the maids who took care of him to lay a single finger on him.

"I understand nothing? I know to control my emotions to get what I want. Do you think I liked your uncle or grandfather? I hated the two of them but I kept my hatred from being noticed to remain near them and get what little I wanted. I stayed close to Richard so you would have a better chance. Do you think if I made my hatred for him known he would have entertained you?" Beth asked, her hand still in the air to slap him again if he gave a foolish response.

Beth hated the way her own son dismissed the fact she was still a princess and that she had many experiences in the castle. "I knew to bite my tongue, to force a smile, and act as if I cared for everyone when truthfully I wanted them dead. That is how you survive. You wear your emotions on your sleeves and that is why Alia can always be ahead of you. You are too quick to get emotional and say the first thing that cos to your head instead of thinking."

Fraser silently continued to touch the back of his head which was aching.

"Do you think I have been telling you to compose yourself for the fun of it? You need to be unpredictable where no one knows what is going through your head and cannot read your next move. If you do not plan out your moves with a great amount of thought put into it your ti in the castle as king will be short and there will be nothing I can do to save you," said Beth.

She took her hand down to not scare him that she might hit him again. Her anger got the best of her at the mont but Fraser was in need of a good smack. It was either a smack at the back of his head or a sword taking off his head.

"Grandfather told

to follow his plan. He said it would work as long as I pushed for the north to join us in war," Fraser muttered.

’Of course,’ Beth thought, rolling her eyes.

"Is your grandfather to beco king or you? Why are you allowing him to control what you do? Cedric is not soone you should trust even though he is your grandfather. I don’t trust him and your father rarely trusts him. Cedric looks out for himself and he would kill you to get himself on the throne. He has always spoke of imagining himself as king. He will either rule behind you or get rid of you to rule alone. Tell , what did he tell you?" Beth asked, needing to know to be one step ahead of Cedric.

"We will have the north agree to lend us n to fight against our enemies. Have Alia et with the prince she was supposed to marry so we do not have to deal with their growing anger. Send one of my distant relatives to marry the prince as a last resort. You discredit

too much, mother. I paid off one of his followers to tell

of his plans. Grandfather planned to slip sothing into Alia’s drink to hold off her having a child," Fraser revealed.

Beth was appalled by the news. It was a risky move to make and it wasn’t needed. Alia’s child would sit on the throne in the north so why bother?

"Do not get involved in any of his plans. He would find a way to sacrifice anyone else to save himself. Focus on controlling your emotions and becoming a good king. I know that you can do well but because you have been handed everything you are acting as you please. I suppose I have so part of the bla as I have not taught you for this mont better. The throne can still be snatched from you. Rember that I am just looking out for you," Beth reached out to ruffle his hair.

Fraser flinched at first but he welcod his mother’s gentle touch the more she rubbed his head. "What about Margaret? I do not trust her and then there is the child that whore has for my uncle. She can have n in the court backing her because she is easy to control," he said, reminding her of the unborn child that could one day compete with him.

"Do not worry about that child. Annabelle should consider herself lucky if that child sees the light of day. You don’t have to do anything when your grandfather will block anyone else from getting the throne. As for Margaret, I will deal with her. I have been waiting for this mont since I was a child. There is no need for her to be looking over your shoulder while you rule. We’ll send her back to never visiting the castle," Beth said, going back to looking out the window as she had a plan in mind for Margaret.

Fraser smiled, deviously awaiting the look on Margaret’s face when they would send her away from the castle. First Alia and now Margaret. They were slowly getting rid of everyone who once looked down on him.
