Alia was tempted to smack him in the face with a book and see if that would do the trick to hurt him. "This conversation is over Killian," she said

"A sha. It was starting to get entertaining again. I hope you don’t forget my suggestion. It might not seem like it but it is the most I have been tortured in years."

"Sure," Alia replied in a sarcastic tone. "You just sound like a horny bastard. Where have you been all day?"

"You are starting to sound like a wife. I was cleaning out the castle for our wedding. Thought you would enjoy it being pest free. I deserve a kiss," said Killian.

"For doing sothing you are required to do? No," Alia replied. She flipped through the book in her hand looking at the drawings her mother had. For the first ti in years, she wondered when did her mother have ti to draw and create characters for the stories she told. There were responsibilities as queen, a mother, and then her husband’s affairs.

Alia knew the more she explored these stories which were once happy mories, she would co to feel angry, hurt, and guilty for not picking up on the things her mother faced in the castle.

"This seems to be an interesting story. In the middle of the night, the queen found the princess missing. She searched high and low, sending the guards to bring the princess ho but there was no sign of the princess. When the sun rose, the king was the one to find the princess. The king did not speak of what happened to the princess but the queen feared her daughter was in the hands of a witch," Killian read a page out loud. "Did anyone ever ntion you going missing?"

"No," Alia shook her head. "I never heard of it in the castle and when I stepped foot outside the castle there was never any ntion of it. My grandmother never brought up

going missing and she has told

many stories of my youth."

"Perhaps anyone outside the castle wasn’t inford you had gone missing. Maybe this," Killian tapped the books. "Is exaggerated. The guards might not have been alerted and it could have been a matter between your mother and father. Where either you wandered off, soone took you, your father took, and your mother searched but your father brought you back."

"Back from where? And who could be this witch she speaks of? Is it an actual witch or is this just a bad character I have to figure out? My father must have been a part of wherever I went since he brought

back. Did he try to kill ? I’ve heard he didn’t think I was his child," Alia said, trying to find a motive.

"Illegitimate children are nothing new to a castle but his suspicion was wrong. You are his child. I sensed it the day we t. You reek of his bloodline," said Killian.

"I trusted that my mother was faithful to him and even if she wasn’t, he deserved it after his long line of mistresses. I was told he believed Leonard was my father. My mother and Leonard had feelings for one another but she caught my father’s eyes and he married her. He ruined her life from the mont he saw her. I want to know more about her," Alia said as closed the book. "But I am afraid to know how much she was hurting. I already feel like I failed her."

"What were you supposed to do?" Killian asked.

"I do not know. I just feel like I should have been more aware and helped her sohow. I would have given up my dreams for the throne and run away with her if I knew more about her pain. If I had paid attention more, I would have noticed that she was slowly dying or picking up on who was hurting her. I always had tunnel vision on my father but there were others," Alia softly spoke, fighting back the tears that wished to fall.

She hated to cry in front of others and did not wish to start now. Killian did not need to see this weak side she had. Alia turned away from Killian’s sight to squeeze her eyes to force the tears to not fall.

"Do you want

to leave?" Killian asked, knowing what she was doing.

"No," Alia replied. "I am fine. I need to go through all of these books and find out things I was not aware of. Just not tonight. I will need Gina to help

identify who so of the characters are."

"That is what you should do first. Flip through the pages and write down the descriptions of the characters ntioned. Connect them to who they really are and then read the books. You will be able to read without stopping and find out all the secrets at one ti. What do you intend to do with what you uncover?" Killian asked.

"My goal is to prove that my mother was killed. If I can learn what problems she had with certain people, I can uncover who would have wanted to kill her. If it was my father, his life has already been taken and I will let the matter go. The people and I cannot punish the dead. Is there a way I can speak with my mother in the underworld?" Alia asked, only now realizing the opportunity she had.

"Souls do not always stay in the underworld. If you are a good person you go sowhere else but I will check for you. If she did sothing bad, there is no guarantee she will be the sa person you once knew. The underworld changes people. Would you still want to et her?"

"Yes. There is so much I need to hear from her about the doll and everything else. The mont you find her, please take

to the underworld," said Alia.
