The tenth node was Asta’s southern territory.

He hadn’t expected that.

Asta’s school — the first expressive institution built in the full presence — had been running for less than two years. The territory had crossed the threshold into the full presence only recently. The honest work in the territory was young compared to the Ashrow’s, compared to Senn’s settlent, compared to the oldest coals.

But Mira’s data showed it climbing toward the node threshold.

The tenth node is Asta’s territory. A pause. This is the different kind of strong Dael identified. The honest work is young — less than two years of the full presence, the expressive institution running for under two years. But the intensity is — I’ve never asured intensity like this. The expressive institution produced a concentration of honest expressive work in a short ti that matches what the oldest coals produced over generations. Another pause. The school did it. The expressive institution running at full intensity for under two years produced what twelve generations of storytelling produced in Gill’s community. Another pause. Different path. Sa destination. Another pause. The old coals reached the node through long slow accumulation. Asta’s territory reached it through intense concentrated expressive work. Another pause. Both produce the node. Another pause. The expressive institution is a faster path to the node than the coal. Another pause. Not better. Faster. Another pause. Asta built a faster path.

He read the data.

Asta’s school producing in under two years what the oldest coals produced over generations.

The expressive institution as a faster path to the node.

He went to the southern territory.

Not because the crossing needed him.

Because Asta had built the thing that produced this, and he wanted to be there when it produced the node.

The want, honest. He examined it. No need underneath — Asta’s territory would cross whether or not he ca. He went because he wanted to witness what Asta had built reaching this fruition, and because Asta was soone whose work he had been part of from the founding, and being present for this was the honest want of soone who had walked part of the road with her.

He went.

Asta t him at the territory’s edge.

The school had grown — from two rooms and a courtyard to a proper institution, the founding faculty of four now a faculty of fifteen, the twenty-three students now over a hundred across multiple cohorts.

And the territory climbing toward the node.

"Mira told ," Asta said. "The tenth node. My territory." She paused. "I didn’t expect it. The territory’s young. The honest work here is younger than the old coal communities." She paused. "Mira says it’s the school." She paused. "The expressive institution producing the node faster than the coal." She paused. "Is that right."

"That’s what the data shows," he said. "The school produced in under two years what the oldest coals produced over generations. The intensity of the expressive work concentrated the accumulation." He paused. "You built a faster path to the node."

Asta looked at the school.

At what she had built.

"I didn’t build it to make a node," she said. "I built it because the territory asked what you build new in the full presence. I built the expressive institution." She paused. "I didn’t know it would produce a node faster than the coal." She paused. "I just built the thing that supported the expressive work."

"You built the thing that supported the expressive work," he said. "And the expressive work, supported intensely, accumulated faster than the coal accumulates on its own." He paused. "The coal is honest participation sustained without institutional support. Slow. Reliable. Generational." He paused. "The expressive institution is honest participation supported intensely by an institution built for it. Faster. The sa accumulation, concentrated." He paused. "Both produce the node." He paused. "You found the faster path." He paused. "Without trying to find it." He paused. "By building the thing that supported the work." He paused. "The faster path was a consequence of building the support well."

Asta looked at the school.

At the faster path she had built without trying to.

"The eleven other node communities," she said. "The old coals. They reached the node over generations. My territory reached it in under two years." She paused. "Because of the school." She paused. "That ans — the other territories that build expressive institutions will reach the node faster too." She paused. "The remaining nodes — the ones not yet identified — could be reached faster by territories that build the institution." She paused. "The deep structure could reconstitute faster than the old-coal tiline projected." She paused. "If the expressive institutions multiply." She paused. "The school is a faster path to the between-space’s reconstituted self-awareness." She paused. "That’s — " she stopped.

"That’s significant," he said.

"That’s significant," she agreed.

He thought about what Asta was saying.

The expressive institutions as a faster path to the nodes.

The deep structure reconstituting faster as the institutions multiplied.

The between-space’s full self-awareness reachable sooner than the generational tiline.

Through the institutions.

Built by people like Asta.

Who built the thing that supported the work.

Without trying to find the faster path.

By building the support well.

"The twelve nodes are the pre-withdrawal deep structure," he said. "Reconstituting through the communities at the twelve positions." He paused. "But the expressive institutions producing nodes faster — that suggests the deep structure isn’t limited to twelve." He paused. "The twelve are the original positions. The minimum structure. The between-space’s self-awareness at the positions it held before the withdrawal." He paused. "But if expressive institutions can produce node-quality communities faster — the structure could grow beyond the original twelve." He paused. "More nodes than the pre-withdrawal era had." He paused. "The between-space’s self-awareness richer than before the withdrawal." He paused. "Not just restored. Expanded." He paused. "Through the institutions the absence’s recovery produced." He paused. "The expressive institutions are sothing the pre-withdrawal era didn’t have." He paused. "Built in the recovery from the absence." He paused. "Producing nodes the pre-withdrawal era didn’t have." He paused. "The deep structure growing beyond its original form." He paused. "Through what the absence’s recovery built."

Asta was very still.

"The structure growing beyond twelve," she said.

"Maybe," he said. "The twelve reconstitute the original. The institutions could grow it beyond." He paused. "I don’t know how far." He paused. "The work will show it." He paused. "But your school producing a node faster than the coal — that’s the first sign that the deep structure isn’t fixed at twelve." He paused. "It’s the minimum." He paused. "Not the maximum." He paused. "The expressive institutions could grow it." He paused. "The between-space’s self-awareness expanding beyond what it was before the withdrawal." He paused. "Through what the recovery built." He paused. "Your school." He paused. "Is the beginning of that."

Asta looked at the school.

At what she had built.

At the faster path.

At the beginning of the deep structure’s growth beyond its original form.

"I just built the thing that supported the work," she said again. Quietly. The specific quality of soone realizing the thing they built had implications larger than they had known.

"Yes," he said. "And the thing that supported the work, built well, is producing a node, and the node is the first sign that the between-space’s self-awareness can grow beyond what it was." He paused. "You built the thing that supported the work." He paused. "That’s all you have to do." He paused. "The implications take care of themselves." He paused. "Build the support well." He paused. "The between-space does the rest." He paused. "It grew beyond its original form through your school." He paused. "Because you built the support well." He paused. "And didn’t need it to be more than it was." He paused. "It beca more than you knew." He paused. "Because you built it without needing it to be."

Asta’s territory crossed three days later.

The tenth node.

The first node produced by an expressive institution rather than the coal.

The first sign of the deep structure growing beyond its original twelve.

Built by soone who built the support well.

And didn’t need it to be more than it was.

And it beca more than anyone knew.

His System pulsed.

[THE WORK CONTINUES.]

Author’s Note: The tenth node — Asta’s southern territory, the first node produced by an expressive institution rather than the coal. The school did in under two years what the oldest coals did over generations. The implication: the twelve are the minimum structure, not the maximum. The expressive institutions could grow the deep structure beyond its original form — the between-space’s self-awareness expanding beyond what it was before the withdrawal, through what the recovery built. Asta built the support well and didn’t need it to be more; it beca more than anyone knew. Ten of twelve. Drop a Power Stone! 🔥
