78: Chapter 78: Not Worthy of You?
Gina Lopez changed into her clothes and stepped out of the bedroom, only to see Sunny Nguyen erging from the restroom.
She let out a light chuckle and said, “Sister Sunny, you look really beautiful this morning.”
Sunny’s face instantly flushed as she replied, “How can I compare to Ms.
Lopez?”
Upon hearing this, Jas Brown nearly slamd his head into the door, while Gina blushed and hurriedly said, “Sister Sunny, what are you talking about?
He and I have nothing to do with each other.”
Sunny crossed her arms and glanced at Gina a few tis, saying with a smile, “Is that so?
But when I see soone enter your room, it’s as if they are entering their own, and you don’t seem uncomfortable at all.
Ms.
Lopez, does that an any man can just walk into your room?”
Gina was at a loss for words at Sunny’s remark and, with her face red, tried to explain, “That was when he was pretending to be my boyfriend, and we had to be in the sa room.”
“And you also had to sleep on the sa bed, right?”
“No…
no!” Gina’s voice clearly lacked conviction as she said this.
Sunny chuckled and said, “All right, no need to explain.
We’re all adults here; it’s normal.
I won’t interfere with your relationship—I have no thoughts of remarrying.
Just don’t mind our past affairs, and I won’t have any connections with Jas Brown in the future.”
Gina knew that Sunny had completely misunderstood and quickly said, “Sister Sunny, you’ve really got it wrong.
Jas Brown and I have nothing to do with each other, so whatever you want to do is up to you.”
“A girl can’t be too prideful, nor too tender-faced.
If you’re like that, soone other than might take advantage.
Maybe soone else will get lucky.”
At this mont, Jas was dumbstruck, shocked that Gina and Sunny were practically passing him around, which was a huge blow to his male ego.
He raised his hand and exclaid, “Ladies, can you not drag into this?
Who I marry is my business and has nothing to do with you.”
“What?” both Gina and Sunny turned to look at Jas with a murderous glare, then in unison, they snapped, “Is Ms.
Lopez (Sister Sunny) not good enough for you?”
Jas was startled by their reaction and managed a bitter smile, saying, “One of you is the boss, the other a director, whereas I’m just a low-level employee.
It’s I who am not good enough for you.
Since I’m not a match, then let’s not try to match at all.
We’re all good friends, just good friends.”
Jas felt that his words were quite awkward—talking about matches as if he were a breeding pig or horse.
“Hmph, you think you can just enjoy the mont and then not acknowledge it?” Gina and Sunny both raised their voices in sync again, yet they were still referring to each other.
Jas chuckled heh-heh and said, “I’ll acknowledge it then.
Shall I continue ‘eating’ tonight?”
“Get lost!” both Sunny and Gina spat at Jas once each, with Sunny being sowhat milder, but Gina glaring fiercely at Jas.
“So, you say I don’t acknowledge after ‘eating,’ but when I do, you disagree?”
“Go to hell!” The two spoke in an eerily similar fashion again, then both turned around to pack their things.
Jas touched his nose, finding the situation quite amusing, though it was all just fun and he had no serious intentions, especially concerning Gina—it was all just a ssy mix-up.
At seven o’clock, Jas drove Gina and Sunny toward the office.
Gina and Sunny stopped their teasing of Jas and instead focused seriously on the details of hosting Lucy Campbell, worried about overlooking anything.
Upon arriving at the office, people saw Jas with the two beautiful won, but everyone just assud Jas was a driver, never suspecting that he had spent the previous night in the sa house with them.
Back at the logistics departnt, Jas’s coworkers greeted him with enthusiasm.
After the previous incident, his relationship with everyone had improved, and he bantered with everyone cheerfully.
“Big Brother Brown, Douglas Smith may have been driven out of the company, but he wasn’t arrested.
I’m worried he might trouble you again.
You should be careful,” Sarah Utah took a mont to quietly remind Jas.
“Thanks for the heads up,” Jas wasn’t concerned about Douglas Smith.
In the company, he might be restrained, but outside, there were countless ways for Jas to deal with Douglas if he caused any trouble.
“It’s all because I wanted to help you that I made an enemy of him,” Sarah’s eyes conveyed remorse.
“Co on, if you keep talking like that, it’ll sound like you’re going to make a grand offer,” Jas joked with Sarah with a laugh.
Sarah’s face turned beet red as she stuttered, “Big Brother Brown, you…
you’re bullying .”
“Heh, just a joke, don’t mind it.”
Sarah pouted slightly and said, “Big Brother Brown is learning bad habits; he never used to bully before.”
“Ha, it’s because I’m more familiar with you now.”
At this point, Sarah wasn’t really upset.
She exchanged a few more words with Jas Brown before sitting down to work.
Jas Brown was looking for sothing to do when his phone rang.
It was Gina Lopez.
Just as he answered, Gina quickly said, “Today, you’re still my driver, taking Lucy Campbell and out for fun.
You can’t tell anyone from the departnt about this.”
“Oh, got it.” Jas hung up the phone.
Being Gina’s driver wasn’t a problem, he was just unsure if Lucy Campbell would recognize him.
Once downstairs, Jas waited less than five minutes before Gina ca down and handed him a set of car keys, saying, “Keep these keys.
From now on, you are my personal driver.”
“Quitting the logistics departnt?” Jas opened the car door and asked Gina, sowhat puzzled.
“Isn’t a driver part of the logistics departnt too?
Later on, I’ll ask Minister Johnson to give you less work to do.
If I need a car, you’ll drive for .
What, you don’t like that?”
Jas chuckled and said, “How could I possibly not like it?
Driving specifically for the leadership, that’s sothing others might beg for but not get.”
“Good to know.
Let’s go, to the White Dove Hotel.”
Jas turned on the GPS, entered the White Dove Hotel, and drove according to the route.
Gina sat in the back, looking sowhat nervous.
Jas shook his head and said, “Ms.
Lopez, you seem so tense.
Might that leave a bad impression?”
Gina took a deep breath and said, “I am indeed a bit nervous.”
“No matter what, she’s just a person.
You are making her out to be too important, that’s why you’re so nervous.
Just treat her like any ordinary person.”
“That’s easy for you to say.
When you actually co face-to-face with her, you’ll understand what it’s like to be nervous.”
Jas smiled but said nothing.
His close encounters with Lucy Campbell couldn’t get any closer; not only had he run around with her for a day, but he had also accidentally pulled down her dress and even kissed her.
If Gina found out, he wondered what she would think.
However, Jas didn’t believe there was anything between him and Lucy Campbell.
At that ti, he was carrying out a mission, aiming for survival, without the luxury to think too much.
Besides, soone like Lucy Campbell, how could she possibly care about soone who was just appointed to protect her?
After about ten minutes, Jas had driven to the front of the White Dove Hotel.
He waited in the car while Gina went inside the hotel.
After a while, Gina ca out with Lucy Campbell, accompanied by three C Park bodyguards, two n and a woman.
The n led the way—one in front and one behind—while the woman stuck closely to Lucy’s side.
The trio’s sharp eyes surveyed the surroundings for any sign of trouble, ready to act at a mont’s notice.
Jas stayed in the car, waiting for Gina to co back on her own.
Truthfully, he seed to have little desire to et with Lucy Campbell face-to-face.
However, Jas was surprised when Gina and Lucy approached his car together.
Then the female bodyguard opened the back door, took a quick look inside, and Lucy Campbell and Gina both got into the car.
“Miss Campbell, are you sure it’s safe to go without your bodyguards?” Gina asked with concern once they were inside the car.
Lucy flashed a slight smile, glancing at Jas, and said, “I believe our safety is absolutely assured.”
“That may be so, but it might be better if they followed us.”
Lucy shook her head, “Ms.
Lopez, this is our country.
I don’t think our country has beco such a ss that I can’t walk around freely without safety issues.
Besides…
you have a driver here, don’t you?
He should be able to ensure our safety.”
Gina looked at Jas.
She had heard from people at the company that Jas managed to fight off three thugs by himself when he was out with Sarah, but those were just thugs, hardly reassuring to Gina.
Hearing Lucy say this, Jas knew she had recognized him, but she hadn’t revealed his previous identity.
Not knowing her motives, Jas nonetheless preferred it this way.
Turning around with a smile, he said, “Ms.
Lopez, Miss Campbell, I can take care of your safety.
Now, where to?”
A driver at this mont should have remained silent and waited, but Jas’s proactive inquiry clearly wasn’t that of a qualified professional, almost as if he were boasting.
This made Gina frown and she nearly glared at Jas.
Lucy, on the other hand, gently smiled, looked Jas in the eye, and said, “Where we go is up to you.
Take us wherever you think is best.”
Gina, sensing no displeasure from Lucy, quickly said, “Let’s start with W Temple then.
It’s the most ancient temple in YODC City.”
