Grace Lopez lazily leaned back in her chair, her deanor exuding an undeniable spring-like charm. If she were a married woman, she would undoubtedly realize Grace Lopez was displaying the afterglow of a romantic encounter. However, Sarah Utah, still a naive girl, could only notice that Grace Lopez seed different from usual—more attractive and womanly—but she couldn’t grasp why Grace was like this.
Grace Lopez took a sip of red wine, smiling as she looked at Sarah Utah, and said, "I’m saying, Sarah, didn’t I just tell you? I just wanted to see who would co here to mingle with Brother-in-law."
Not believing her, Sarah Utah looked at Grace Lopez and said, "That can’t be right. I didn’t hear what you and Big Brother Brown were talking about, but I felt sothing was off between the two of you. You were speaking so softly. If it was just a normal eting with Big Brother Brown, why would you talk so quietly?"
Sarah Utah was still quite naive, her innocence showing through as she inadvertently revealed her own concerns. Grace Lopez, seeing through her easily, responded with a smug expression, "I have always had a good relationship with my Brother-in-law. If I wanted to stir things up, I obviously wouldn’t do it publicly. I had no idea you were in the room, so why would I need to avoid you?"
"Were you... really just joking?" Sarah Utah still felt sothing was off.
"Of course! Today, Emily just wouldn’t stop talking nonsense, which forced my sister to agree with Emma. My Brother-in-law is so good and so many people are after him. My sister can’t watch over him constantly, so, of course, I, being her sister, wouldn’t want to see her get bullied. My sister is the rightful wife after all. If I don’t help her, who will?" Grace Lopez spoke with an air of righteous indignation.
At Grace’s words, Sarah Utah felt awkward. Everyone knew about her feelings for Jas Brown. Even though she and Jas had no significant encounters, sneaking into his room tonight—even if just for a chat—could easily be misunderstood, especially at this late hour.
"Ahem... Sandra, I truly was just chatting with Big Brother Brown. There was really nothing else," Sarah Utah hurriedly explained.
"Is that so..." Grace Lopez squinted at Sarah, confident in her position and feeling justified to confront anyone who tried to pursue Jas Brown. She said in a leisurely tone, "I trust you; you’re not as bold as the others. But there are others who wouldn’t hesitate to take my Brother-in-law away. That would make my sister very sad. I worry about how my sister found such a husband who never lets her rest easy."
Sarah Utah heaved a sigh of relief but felt sowhat embarrassed as she said, "Although Big Brother Brown seems ordinary at first, after spending ti with him, you realize his excellence—he’s quite likable."
Grace Lopez scoffed, "Exactly! I can’t just have my sister keeping him locked up either."
Sarah Utah gave a self-conscious chuckle. Grace Lopez really was quite formidable.
Grace took another sip of wine, sighing, "My sister may seem fierce and efficient at work, but when it cos to relationships, she’s quite naïve. In business managent, she can be sharp and ruthless, but emotionally she’s soft. If I were her, I would have never let Sarah Grandy stay, nor agreed to Emma Campbell. And see where this got her: two potential lovers for my Brother-in-law. If I don’t help her, she’ll inadvertently create a large harem for him. Even if she’s the official wife, no man resists novelty, and things would just get ssier."
Sarah Utah felt guilt creeping in again, having seen Emma receive acknowledgnt from Gina earlier. She too had entertained thoughts, leaving her unsure how to respond to Grace.
"Forget it, this matter needs ti. Let’s go, I’m a bit tired." Grace, having made a show of things, was satisfied that Sarah wouldn’t suspect her anymore and wanted to go rest, thoroughly exhausted and longing to sleep a deep sleep.
Sarah Utah quickly agreed, feeling pressured by the conversation with Grace.
Last night had been so exhausting, they quickly fell asleep, but early this morning, Gina was already grumbling to Jas.
"What am I going to do if I see Sarah Utah? I’m so embarrassed."
Jas also found this quite awkward. If Sunny, Charlotte, or Emma had overheard, it wouldn’t matter much—they were all familiar with such sounds. Even Lucy wouldn’t mind much; she and Jas had been together thrice, although only in special ways, she understood the feeling. Emily wouldn’t mind either; she’s carefree and would move on easily.
But it was specifically Sarah Utah, who had always liked Jas while maintaining a pure relationship. Hearing Jas and Gina being intimate was embarrassing for him, even more so for Sunny.
Holding Gina in his arms, Jas gave a dry laugh, "Forget it, they overheard. It’s normal for us as a couple to be affectionate, isn’t it? What’s to worry about?"
Gina huffed, "It’s not about worrying, it’s embarrassing! Yesterday, you were so... lively... had being so loud—it’s so mortifying."
"I was just excited last night, wanting to treat my wife well."
"You’re so annoying!" Gina pinched Jas, although she had thoroughly enjoyed his enthusiastic attention the previous night.
After they got up, Gina complained to Jas, "It’s all Sandra’s idea. Without her, Sarah wouldn’t have co here. Just wait till I get my hands on her."
Jas chuckled, "Sandra is just playful; shouting at her won’t help. Besides, Sarah won’t spread it around, so let it be."
Gina fud, "That girl went too far this ti. Who goes sneaking into Brother-in-law’s room to eavesdrop? Hmph, I’ll kick her out and make her live outside."
Jas chid in imdiately, "Yes, let’s kick her out. She shouldn’t stay in our ho."
Jas knew Gina was just speaking harshly. Even if Sandra overstayed, Gina, as her sister, wouldn’t let her live alone. She was only venting. If Sandra did want to move, Gina wouldn’t agree.
Besides, Sandra would co up with excuses to stay. Given the chemistry and myriad of sches she had, Gina wasn’t Sandra’s match when it ca to sly wit, even if Gina was the boss.
Predictably, when Gina looked at Jas, she hesitantly asked, "Do you really think Sandra is in the way?"
Jas laughed softly, "How could I? Sandra is your sister, which makes her like my sister too. Taking care of her is my duty. With her temperant, if she left our care, who knows what she’d get up to."
Gina imdiately bead, "Exactly, I think so too. With mom and dad not here, I’ve got to look after her. Hopefully she’ll find a boyfriend soon."
Jas instinctively rubbed his nose. Sandra finding a boyfriend seed unlikely; or perhaps she wouldn’t. Naturally, he couldn’t say this aloud and simply followed Gina’s sentint, "Fate will decide that, though."
"Yes, so we can’t force her. If she ends up with soone she dislikes or doesn’t know well, and they end up unhappy, that would be hurting her."
In the room, Gina and Jas were having a good chat, montarily forgetting last night’s awkward incidents. But when Gina went out and saw Sarah Utah’s embarrassed and shy deanor, the mory surfaced. She couldn’t help but throw a glare at her sister, who was giggling nearby. This girl was really too much to handle, and she definitely couldn’t trust letting her live out on her own.
