Chapter 489: Chapter 498: I Quit
John Brown glanced at the faces of the won one by one, not missing any. In Gina Lopez’s eyes, he saw a kind of panic; in lody Yoody’s eyes, a kind of anger; on Sarah Utah’s face, he perceived a kind of shyness and awkwardness, along with a hint of tension; whereas in Emily Berns’ expression, he saw a kind of pride, but within that pride was more a sense of insecurity.
Charlotte was as smug as ever; in her heart, she believed Emily Berns was a major star, and John Brown would surely choose Emily Berns.
Emily Jenkins wore an expression of soone watching a good show, but even though she had a smile on her face, she couldn’t really laugh at such a tense mont.
Sunny Nguyen seed quite composed, rely offering John Brown a smile and a helpless shrug. To her, it didn’t matter who ended up with John Brown, but she was better friends with Gina Lopez, so naturally, she hoped John Brown would end up with Gina.
Emily Lopez seed to be in a daze at this ti, not even looking at John Brown, her face alternating between red and white, it was unknown what she was thinking.
Lucy Campbell’s expression was equally calm, though her mind was actually in turmoil, but no one could see through her.
At this point, John Brown suddenly laughed brightly, then abruptly stood up and loudly declared, “I’m done, you can choose whoever you want!” Then, before anyone could recover from their shock, he pushed the door open and walked out.
By the ti everyone reacted, John Brown had already left the house, leaving everyone staring blankly at each other. No one expected John Brown to have such an attitude in the end.
“That bastard actually dared to run away!” Emily Berns was the first to stamp her foot in frustration.
lody Yoody couldn’t help but curse: “John Brown, you bastard, just wait, I’ll make sure you pay for this.”
The expressions on everyone else’s faces were equally peculiar.
Only Lucy Campbell secretly smiled, knowing that what John Brown did was definitely wise. At this mont, no matter what stance he took, it would have been completely wrong; although avoidance might be a cowardly act, in today’s situation, not running was foolish.
After heading out, John Brown turned off his phone, and with one call, summoned Martin Miller.
“Boss, why did you urgently call ?” Martin Miller asked eagerly when he saw John Brown in a small restaurant.
John Brown beckoned, saying, “Nothing much, just wanted to have a drink with you.”
“Drink? Boss, you’re kidding, right?” Martin Miller looked wide-eyed and incredulous.
“Quit your nonsense, co on, bottoms up.” John Brown said and downed a large glass of rustic beer.
Martin Miller sat down, glanced at John Brown, then grinned, saying, “Boss, are you heartbroken?”
“Heartbroken… I wish it were just heartbreak.” John Brown shook his head and took another large gulp of beer.
“What exactly happened? What could possibly make our boss appear so defeated?” Martin Miller asked with a curious face. It was rare to see John Brown like this, so naturally, he wanted to tease him a bit since it was sothing that never happened before.
John Brown took a bite of a skewer, the skewer was greasy, oil oozed with each bite, but he didn’t wipe his mouth, saying, “I suddenly miss the days in the squad.”
Martin Miller was even more excited, thinking John Brown wanted to co back, indicating he must have faced sothing daunting outside. What sort of thing could drive John Brown to such a state? This was an exceedingly tempting prospect.
“If you want to co back, that’d be great, the brothers all miss you.” Martin Miller deliberately didn’t ask, accompanying John Brown in taking a sip of his drink.
“You know, despite constantly being in danger back then, life was quite enjoyable, huh? Without tasks or training, we could drink when we wanted, eat when we liked, and go girl-crazy when we fancied. It was so freeing.”
“Aren’t you pretty free now too, leisurely every day, and beautiful won abound beside you.”
“Don’t ntion those won; thinking about them gives a headache. Let tell you, you’re aiming at that… whatever her na is, Lin… what was it?”
“Evelyn Wilson!” Martin Miller imdiately reminded, but then awkwardly said: “Boss, don’t talk nonsense, there’s nothing between us yet.”
“Look at you, acting all nervous. Clearly, you like her, otherwise why would you lose your cool every ti she’s ntioned?” John Smith shook his head, patted Martin Miller’s shoulder, and said, “I’m telling you, Martin, if you really like her, just focus on her alone. Even if other won co your way, asking you out, you need to stay strong and not give them any chances.”
“Hehe… Boss, I knew it, you’ve been hurt emotionally, haha…” Martin Miller clapped John Smith on the shoulder, laughing until tears almost ca out.
“Boss, co on, tell what’s going on!”
John Smith knew well that telling his embarrassing stories to Martin Miller would make him a laughing stock, but his ho situation had spiraled out of control, and he couldn’t solve it on his own. He had to tell Martin about the chaotic situation with his wives.
Martin Miller listened, dumbfounded, and eventually said, “Whoa, boss, you’re sothing else. In such a short ti, not even half a year, you’ve managed to get involved with so many won.”
John Smith rolled his eyes and said, “When I went back, I was still ssing around like in the army, who knew it would cause so much trouble. That’s why I’m advising you, if you have a goal, don’t pursue other won anymore, especially don’t get emotionally involved. Having many won is a real headache.”
Martin Miller nodded repeatedly, saying, “Seeing your situation, I wouldn’t dare. This is downright self-destructive, haha…” He grinned mischievously, knowing that it was these won who could make John Smith so helpless. None of his past opponents ever managed to trouble John Smith; if those terrorists or special forces elites found out this would defeat John Smith, their expressions would be priceless.
“Hey, you kid, I asked you for advice, what’s with the daydreaming?” John Smith carelessly slapped Martin Miller.
Martin quickly said, “Boss, you know they say it’s difficult for an impartial judge to resolve family disputes, this is your dostic issue, what can I do, but who do you like most right now?”
John Smith took a sip of wine and said, “If I had to choose, I really like Emma, but Gina is also growing on . Emily Berns has given a daughter, she’s three now, while lody Yoody is pregnant with my child, and I can’t just leave young Charlotte alone either…”
Martin burst out laughing, saying, “Boss, you’ve said nothing basically, you can’t leave any of them! Why don’t you just accept them all? With your ability, handling two a night should be no big deal, right?”
John Smith sourly said, “Accept them all? Do you think this is ancient tis where one can have multiple wives?”
“What are you going to do then? You’re attached to this one, reluctant to give up that one, what’s there to say? It’s not that hard to marry multiple won nowadays. Just find so country in A Region, or join a sect that allows it, even in N Country there are sects that practice polygamy. Besides, we’re in SSUP Country with a monogamy system, but there’s so much infidelity. Why be so conflicted? If they want to be with you, keep them, if they don’t, let them go.”
“Forget it, it’s impossible, having them is easy, but too many won lead to constant bickering. If I really had such a crowd, I’d be driven crazy daily, forget it, you have no good ideas either, let’s just drink.”
This suggestion from Martin echoed what Lucy Campbell had told him. John Smith knew it was a thod, like Emma; whether she was with Gina or soone else, he would never abandon her. Or rather, he wasn’t doing that now.
And young Charlotte, who stood by Emma’s side, would probably remain this way.
Except for these two, others like Gina Lopez, lody Yoody, Helen Wilson, Emily Berns have even stronger personalities. How could they tolerate such a situation? It’s fundantally impossible.
He had no solution, going back wouldn’t solve the problem, his presence might even escalate the won’s fights. At least he believed they were all high-quality individuals and wouldn’t go beyond sarcastic exchanges into loud argunts or physical fights. Moreover, Lucy Campbell was there, a suprely wise woman who would probably calm things down. So he simply drank heartily with Martin Miller.
Unknowingly, John Smith started relying on Lucy Campbell; with her around, he seed remarkably at ease, no matter the issue.
They drank for most of the day, John Smith getting thoroughly drunk, not intentionally escaping through drink, but felt relaxed after venturing out. With several comrades joining, they drank even more cheerily; not getting drunk felt like letting those comrades down.
When John Smith awoke, he found a woman beside him. He quickly sat up, realizing it was Lucy Campbell. Although he was only wearing underwear, Lucy was fully clothed, though her clothes were a bit creased from lying in bed.
Seeing John move, Lucy woke up too. She imdiately sat up, saying, “Awake? Have so water.” She reached for a glass of water from the bedside table and handed it to John Smith.
John Smith took it and drank it in one go, asking, “Why did you take care of yourself?” He knew Lucy’s bodyguards were following him, so it wasn’t surprising she found him. It was surprising that she took care of him while he was drunk. The room was dark; it was probably the middle of the night.
Lucy brushed her slightly disheveled hair aside, saying, “Whoever you’re with now might cause others to be upset, so only I can look after you. How did I do?”
John Smith smiled appreciatively and said, “Being cared for by SSUP Country’s number one beauty, how could there be anything wrong?”
