32: Chapter 32 Inspection 32: Chapter 32 Inspection Inside this employee office, there are a total of eight cubicle-like small compartnts, all separated by partition panels about one and a half ters high.
Once seated, one isn’t disturbed by others, but standing up allows one to see everyone else.
Jas Brown’s little cubicle was right next to Sarah Utah’s, separated only by a partition panel, an arrangent made by Sarah so that whenever Jas had a question, he could simply stand up and ask her.
But at the mont, Jas wasn’t in his cubicle; instead, he’d pulled a chair over to sit beside Sarah, who was explaining the main scope of work for the logistics departnt.
For a company with assets nearing a hundred million, it had a lot of employees, totaling more than two hundred, but only about fifty worked inside this company.
JYPP Region Company, being a trading company, also had so staff stationed abroad, and there used to be many employees working in various warehouses.
Although referred to as a branch, JYPP Region Company was much larger than most small companies, so it had many departnts under it.
Compared to these subordinate departnts, the departnt where Jas and his colleagues worked could be considered a higher-level departnt.
Sarah’s main job was the distribution of materials within the company.
To put it plainly, she was responsible for purchasing whatever the company needed and then distributing it to the various departnts.
Previously, this position was held by a veteran in the company who always took kickbacks when making purchases and over-invoiced.
Gina Lopez discovered this and fired him on the spot, passing the job to Sarah, a girl who’d only started working at the company.
Sarah did her job well, never taking advantage of her position, which is why she’d been there for over a year.
Sarah’s voice was very pleasant to listen to, not the high-pitched kind, but soft and fluffy, putting people at ease when they heard her.
Most of the ti, she spoke without looking at Jas, and even when she did glance at him, she quickly turned her head away, her cheeks constantly flushed.
This made Jas find the situation quite amusing.
Used to frequenting bars where he t bold won, it had been a long ti since he’d seen a girl like Sarah who blushed when talking to a man.
“Alright, I’ve finished explaining.
Is there anything you don’t understand?” Sarah finally faced Jas as she asked, waiting for his response.
Jas shrugged his shoulders and said, “I’m sorry, you ntioned so much, I didn’t rember it all at once.”
“What?” Sarah was taken aback, her face reddening even more as she said awkwardly, “Then I’ll explain it to you again.”
“Thanks, but I feel I’ll rember better as I gradually get used to it.
Can you tell what I should do today?”
After thinking for a mont, Sarah said, “Today is the first day back at work after the New Year, and the company’s procurent tasks haven’t co down yet, so there shouldn’t be much to do.”
“So, does that an I can take it easy today?”
“It seems like it.”
Jas smiled and said, “Then it seems like being a white-collar worker is pretty relaxing.”
Sarah shook her head and replied, “It’s just for today.
I’m sure various tasks will be assigned soon.
Also, we might be sent to inspect the condition of the warehouses.”
“You’re going too?”
“Yes, of course, I have to go.
This is part of our logistics departnt’s work.”
“I feel like sending a beauty like you to the warehouses is almost a desecration.”
Sarah imdiately said in a fluster, “No…
no, it’s my job, and I have to take it seriously.”
This girl in front of him was too easily embarrassed, and such a girl, Jas thought, really shouldn’t be working at all.
If she did work, she would definitely be picked on.
Even Jas felt the urge to tease her.
However, as a newbie, he knew to draw the line; if he angered the young lady, perhaps nobody in the logistics departnt would even pay him any attention.
The two drivers were already giving him hostile looks.
At that mont, Emma Davis walked in and said, “After the New Year’s holiday, none of the warehouses have been inspected.
Today, everyone’s job is to go down and check the warehouses.
I want to see your inspection reports the day after tomorrow.
Any problems?”
“No problem,” Sarah, Andrew Brown, and Emily Smith all responded in unison.
Emma nodded and then said to Sarah, “Don’t forget to teach him while you’re inspecting.”
Sarah quickly agreed again, and Emma then left the room.
“Sigh, inspecting warehouses on the first day back at work.” As soon as Emma left, Emily imdiately started complaining.
Andrew laughed and said, “Don’t complain; just think about the annual bonus we just received.”
Hearing this, Emily chuckled and said, “For next year’s annual bonus, I’ll start working hard from today.”
The four of them left the office and headed to the elevator, where Andrew said cheerfully, “Little Lee, work hard.
Our company’s annual bonus is quite generous.”
Jas showed a slightly excited expression and asked, “How much is it?”
Emily quickly chid in, “That depends on your performance throughout the year.
At the end, our manager will score us based on our performance.
The bonus for each person varies according to these scores.
Mrs.
Davis is definitely the one with the highest bonus in our departnt.”
“I don’t get that much either.
I’m sure it’s about the sa as yours,” Mrs.
Davis humbly replied, but pride was evident on her face.
The elevator arrived, and everyone got on together.
There were other people in the elevator, so nobody spoke.
After exiting the elevator, they reached the entrance of the building.
Two security guards imdiately spotted Jas Brown.
Everyone had been security guards before and naturally recognized each other.
In the morning when Jas Brown ca in, the night shift security guards had thought he was coming to work at the security departnt.
Now, the day shift security guards seeing that Jas Brown wasn’t on duty and walking with Sarah, one of the guards, John Johnson, widened his eyes in surprise and said, “Jas Brown, isn’t it your shift today?”
Jas Brown chuckled and replied, “I won’t be having shifts anymore.”
“No more shifts?” John Johnson didn’t understand.
“I’m now working at the JYPP Region Company.
I won’t be standing guard with you fellas anymore.” Jas had a small hint of pride.
Having worked as a security guard alongside them for two months, he understood how much these fellow guards envied the white-collar workers inside the towering building.
The two guards were wide-eyed and exclaid, “You’re kidding?”
Jas Brown pointed at his badge and said, “Take a look at this.”
Upon seeing the badge with the JYPP Region Company logo, both n looked at Jas Brown with envy.
John said sowhat sourly, “Lucky you, getting to avoid our hard yakka.”
Jas Brown laughed heartily and said in a chummy manner, “Don’t say that; we’re still brothers.
I’ll treat everyone to dinner tonight.
Spread the word, but for now, I’ve got to head off to work.”
Once out of the company, Andrew and Emily did not accompany Jas Brown.
Each had their own sectors to cover, so they all headed in different directions.
Arriving at the bus stop, Sarah curiously asked, “Were you a security guard before?”
With a smile, Jas replied, “Yeah, worked for two months.
Didn’t you ever see ?
I’ve seen you many tis.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t notice.” Sarah’s face reddened once again.
Jas shook his head, “There’s nothing to be sorry about.
By the way, doesn’t the company have drivers?
Don’t they assign a car for us when we go out for inspections?”
Sarah shook her head, “There are only two drivers in our company; they can’t cater to everyone.
Typically, they only assign cars when leaders go out.
If we’re going out, we have to take the bus.”
At that mont, the bus arrived, and Jas and Sarah got on together.
Since it was past the rush hour and the first day back at work, there were fewer people out and about, so the bus wasn’t crowded.
They took seats together towards the back.
Once seated, Sarah shared, “I’m responsible for four warehouses, all located on the east side of the city.
I inspect two per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and should finish up by tomorrow afternoon.”
Jas asked, “Why aren’t the warehouses all in one location?”
“The warehouses are all rented by our company.
Renting a huge warehouse would be too costly, so they’re spread out.
Plus, our company’s business is diversified.
We procure a variety of goods, so products of different types need to be stored in different warehouses.”
Sarah went on to explain more about the warehouses to Jas.
This ti, he committed it all to mory.
After a half-hour bus ride, they got out and hailed a cab.
Five or six minutes later, they reached their first destination.
This warehouse spanned more than two thousand square ters, surrounded by a fence, with a big black iron gate that was open.
A man in his thirties was waiting at the entrance.
Seeing them approach, he ca over with a big smile and said, “Little Erin’s here.”
Sarah quickly introduced him, “Manager Wilson, this is Jas Brown, a new colleague from the logistics departnt.”
On the way there, Sarah had already briefed Jas about this manager nad John Carter.
Jas promptly went over to shake hands, saying, “Manager Wilson, nice to et you.”
“Nice to et you too, we’ll need to look out for each other.”
“I’m just a newbie; it’s I who needs Manager Wilson’s care.”
“What are you saying?
You’re from the higher-ups, you co here to inspect us, of course, we’ll have to take care of you.”
John was a smooth talker, and after a few sentences, they all seed quite chummy.
He then brought Jas and Sarah into his office.
The office here was a fair bit more modest than those at the JYPP Region Company, but it was spacious.
And in this place, John was king—a lot more comfortable than the small-ti employees like Jas.
Sarah was a very diligent girl, not much for chitchat.
She asked John to take out the inventory records, compared them against her own, and then conducted a thorough count in the warehouse.
She was utterly ticulous and serious about her work.
By the ti they were finished, it was past eleven o’clock.
John offered to take them out for a al, but Sarah firmly declined, and it seed that John knew she would not agree, so he didn’t push further.
“Isn’t it okay for us to grab a work lunch?” As Jas sat with Sarah at a snack bar, he wondered if he should have accepted John’s invitation.
Sarah shook her head, “That wouldn’t do.
‘He who takes the king’s shilling sings the king’s song.’ If sothing went wrong later, it would be difficult to report, and that would be irresponsible to the company.”
Jas gave Sarah a thumbs-up, “Your principles are really strong.”
Embarrassed, Sarah gave a shy smile, “Sorry for making you eat such simple fare.”
“That’s alright; I have to gradually get used to it.
Once I’m used to it, it’s fine.
Besides, it’s good enough if I can eat my fill and charge it to expenses.” Jas originally wanted to make a flirty joke to tease Sarah, but in the end, he refrained.
Sarah certainly wasn’t one for teasing.
Saying sothing out of line could easily offend her.
Although he had no intentions towards her, to offend a cute girl and receive her frown henceforth would make life far less interesting.
