Nian Shutong’s conversation with the elder resembled two parallel lines, not necessarily never intersecting but certainly not eager to do so.
The two of them locked eyes as Nian Shutong pointed to the books on the table and said, "You might as well take a look before deciding, otherwise I’m afraid you’ll regret it."
"Pssh! You’re not that old, yet you’ve got quite the attitude, reminds a bit of my younger days. It’s good for the youth to have such vigor."
The elder opened the book on the table and glanced at the first line nonchalantly. But as he read the second line, his interest piqued, and by the third line, he looked up at Nian Shutong.
"Are they all of this level?"
"Only higher, never lower."
"Well, what are you waiting for? Go back and copy them!"
The elder was getting anxious because what Nian Shutong had brought him was among the most classic of ancient books. He hadn’t expected the young girl to have such an impressive collection.
"Heh, now you don’t despise anymore."
Nian Shutong stood up and asked, "How many points in exchange?"
"The highest."
"Alright then, I’ll go back and start copying."
Nian Shutong left quite briskly, believing that as a curator, the elder wouldn’t deceive her.
By this ti, the elder was already imrsed in the ancient books. He truly loved these books deep in his bones for this whole life.
Of course, there was another reason; it was after reading a particular ancient book that he suddenly had an epiphany about his Cultivation, which allowed him to reach his current level.
Therefore, he always believed that when it ca to the latter stages, Cultivation was all about tempering the heart.
After Nian Shutong left, she didn’t go to copy the books imdiately because she had promised to have dinner next door with Zhao Dai. After returning to her own courtyard to prepare, she was about to head over when her Light Computer rang.
It was Fu Yunhe.
Nian Shutong naturally halted her steps and answered the communication right away.
"Hello."
"About yesterday on the battlefield."
"I guessed as much. Is everything alright?"
"Don’t worry, everything is good."
"That’s good then. Inside that little bottle of elixir I gave you, there’s a Fasting Pill. Taking one can stave off hunger and thirst for at least seven days, but I wouldn’t recomnd you take it when you have food available."
"Got it, I’ll take good care of it. I have to go now, I’ll call you when I’m free."
"Alright, go on, and take care."
Nian Shutong cut off the communication efficiently, but after hanging up, she murmured while tapping on her Light Computer: He sounds a bit tired.
She had no idea what exactly had happened on his side, but no matter what, that was the path Fu Yunhe had chosen. She would do her utmost to support him, to help him, but that ant never interfering.
On the other side, Fu Yunhe indeed felt sowhat weary, as he had been non-stop ever since he left the academy.
Having just reported to the Legion, he imdiately set out with them. The journey wasn’t peaceful, as Xiong Da wanted to train his troops using Star Thieves.
Although Fu Yunhe was a greenhorn, his strength was undeniable, and Xiong Da couldn’t simply ignore it.
Xiong Da firmly believed in a lesson once taught by Admiral Yun He: the true skill of a good leader was in maximizing the potential of each soldier, making the most of their strengths; that was what made a great commander.
Xiong Da always adhered to this principle in leading his troops, so Fu Yunhe’s SSS-level strength had to be fully utilized.
So, in the relentless pursuit of the Star Thieves, Fu Yunhe’s role was absolutely indispensable. Even on several occasions, they encountered SSS-level Star Thief leaders. Whenever Fu Yunhe returned victorious, Xiong Da would exclaim, "Damn, that’s great, my Legion has an SSS-level leader now!"
Fu Yunhe understood these people all too well; they were thrilled by the kill.
The interstellar realm had no shortage of Star Thieves, but their strength should not be underestimated, so sotis the Legion had to weigh the options of whether to wipe out the Star Thieves.
If casualties were too many, it was not worth it. But with Fu Yunhe present, Xiong Da simply tossed the SSS-level leaders to Fu Yunhe and ignored everything else.
Therefore, along the way, Fu Yunhe was practically always in battle.
His road to combat had just begun, but his achievents were already incredibly brilliant.
At this ti, Nian Shutong was also getting ready to start, to visit soone else’s ho.
She was sowhat apprehensive and nervous, emotions that were quite rare for her.
Nian Shutong, carrying a basket, arrived at the next-door neighbor’s gate, which was open, and the door to the house inside was also open, the welcoming pose quite clear.
At the doorstep, Nian Shutong had a smile on her lips as she entered the yard and called out, "Sister-in-law, I’m here."
"Hey, hey, co in fast."
Her voice was heard before the person was seen.
Nian Shutong first saw a figure pushing the door’s screen apart. The person turned around, still holding a frying pan in hand.
It seed they were in such a hurry upon hearing the visitor had arrived that they ca out with the pan still in hand.
"Sister-in-law, go back in, I can walk by myself."
"Okay, okay, I’ll just finish frying this dish first."
Zhao Dii went back into the house, placed the pan on the stove, and continued to stir-fry.
These vegetables were from the seeds she bought on Little River Live; she had planted them herself in the yard, and so with a short growth period were ready to eat.
Nian Shutong walked in with her items, entering the kitchen where only Zhao Dii was at ho.
"Sister-in-law, I brought over two dishes and so fruit."
"Good, I’ll take them. We’ll keep it reciprocal."
Zhao Dii efficiently dumped the vegetables into a dish, saying, "These are bok choy. I simred so pork lard with the at you gave yesterday, and today I fried the bok choy with the lard residues. It’s delicious."
"It looks good, slls good too."
"Right?" Zhao Dii was pleased with Nian Shutong’s comnt. She gestured towards the yard and said, "I love farming. I used to farm for others, but after marrying Ma Lei, I ca here and had no land to farm."
"But then, when Little River Live started selling seeds, I was the first to buy them. Many people were ready to laugh at then, but now, they’re all envious."
"At the school, I planted one acre of rice and one acre of wheat. When it was ti to harvest the rice and flour, it made a bunch of people green with envy."
Zhao Dii genuinely loved farming and spoke with passion.
Nian Shutong had not expected that Zhao Dii would be such a devoted fan of Little River Live.
"I’m back."
Ma Lei walked in from outside and, even before entering the house, the wafts of aroma made him quicken his pace.
However, just at the doorstep, he heard his wife discussing farming. Initially concerned that Nian Shutong would find it boring, he discovered, to the contrary, that Nian Shutong had so insights on farming and had struck up a conversation with his wife.
Even at dinner, Zhao Dii was still talking with Nian Shutong about farming. Ironically, he and Nian Shutong, both teachers, couldn’t find a common topic, but she had beco more engrossed in conversation with his wife.
Ma Lei picked up a chopstick-full of food. Let’s eat, there was nothing else to do.
