Chapter 140: Ch 140: The end is all I see- Part 3

Noah imdiately froze as soon as he heard Orion’s complaint.

Even Orion looked surprised that he had spoken those words. He never ant to complain...out loud at least. But it did irritate him a little to see how openly Selene was showing affection to the red-head.

’Not that I have any ground to complain about. Noah is Selene’s brother and he has ever right to enjoy Selene’s company. Still, I think I feel a lot more annoyed than I thought I would feel.’

The tension in his shoulders eased, his lips parted slightly, and the sharp glint in his eyes softened. It was like watching a fire being smothered before it could grow.

Orion felt an irrational stab of jealousy.

He ignored it.

Madam Verta, on the other hand, looked like she had been struck by lightning.

Her mouth opened and closed, her expression shifting between disbelief and confusion, but no words ca out.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she managed to speak.

"The future... has it changed? How is that possible...not, it’s not changed completely. Just montarily...but still-!"

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Selene arched an eyebrow.

"Of course it did. Nothing is ever set in stone. Didn’t I tell you that there is no use depending too much on the system?"

Madam Verta’s breath hitched.

Selene continued, her tone firm.

"You put too much faith in the system’s power to see the future. It’s not absolute."

Madam Verta staggered as if Selene had physically struck her. Doubt flickered across her face, the kind that she had never allowed herself to entertain before.

She had always relied on her visions. They had never failed her before.

But now... they were wrong.

Utterly and completely wrong.

And yet—

She could still see it.

Even as she stood here, alive and breathing, her power still showed her all of them dead in the near future.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she clenched her hands into fists. No. She wasn’t ready to admit defeat. Not yet.

Selene, paying no further attention to Madam Verta’s inner turmoil, turned toward Noah.

"Where’s Nora? And the others?"

She asked.

Noah hesitated, looking vaguely embarrassed.

"I don’t know."

Selene narrowed her eyes.

"You don’t know?"

Noah exhaled heavily, crossing his arms.

"I got lost while fighting monsters. I... don’t know how to get back to my team."

He scowled slightly.

Orion snickered.

"You? Lost? The great Noah Vale?"

Noah shot him a glare.

Before Orion could provoke him further, Noah turned back to Selene.

"How did you find ?"

Selene didn’t hesitate. She lied.

"It was just a coincidence."

Noah raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.

In reality, Selene had used Insight to track him down, and she was paying the price for it.

Her vision swam at the edges, her body trembling from exhaustion. It felt like she was standing on unsteady ground, and every step threatened to knock her over.

Her knees nearly buckled, but she forced herself to stand tall.

And then—

A notification appeared before her.

[New Ability Unlocked: Borrow

Allows the user to temporarily use a skill from anyone currently being amplified.

Skill strength is limited to 25% of the original power.

Using this ability will take a significant toll on the user’s body.]

Selene grimaced.

The ability was powerful, but it ca with a dangerous cost. She couldn’t afford to use it recklessly.

For now, she decided to set it aside.

"We should head to the boss room. Ethan and Zara should be finishing up soon."

She said, pushing away her exhaustion.

Noah nodded.

"That’s where Nora was headed too, before we got separated. If we go there, we’ll probably run into her."

Madam Verta, still pale and visibly shaken, took a hesitant step forward.

Her voice was uneven when she spoke.

"You... you can’t be serious."

Selene glanced at her.

"What?"

"With the state you’re in— You’re going straight to the boss room?! Have you all gone mad?"

Madam Verta shook her head violently.

Selene rely shrugged.

"We’ll be fine."

Madam Verta let out a hysterical laugh, clearly unable to believe what she was hearing.

But Selene ignored her. She trusted her team.

They started moving again, the air thick with tension, but Selene forced herself to focus.

Then—

Sothing shifted.

Her Insight suddenly flared to life, a sharp signal pinging nearby.

Selene’s breath hitched.

Sothing powerful was close.

She imdiately activated Insight again, pushing past the pain that clawed at her skull.

And what she saw made her blood run cold.

A second boss.

A double-boss dungeon.

Selene stopped in her tracks, her mind racing.

Double-boss dungeons were extrely rare—but when they appeared, they were never easy to deal with.

One boss alone would have been manageable. But two?

Things just got complicated.

Madam Verta’s eyes narrowed as she stared at Selene.

"I’ve never heard of a dungeon having more than one boss."

Selene’s expression remained unreadable.

"It’s not supposed to happen. Not at our level."

Madam Verta’s brow furrowed.

"How do you know that?"

Selene didn’t answer.

Instead, she pulled out her communication device and quickly sent a ssage to Ethan:

[Do not kill the boss. Just restrain it. It won’t die unless both bosses are taken out simultaneously.]

Orion, standing beside her, crossed his arms.

"Okay, so what do we do about the second boss?"

Selene bit her lip. They didn’t have much ti to think this through.

Then her gaze landed on Noah.

"We have a chance, because we have Noah. We’ll go and deal with it."

She said slowly,

Noah blinked.

"?"

A second later, understanding dawned. His eyes widened, but then—gradually—a smile spread across his face. A rare, genuine smile, one that wasn’t laced with arrogance or irritation.

He straightened his shoulders.

"If you’re relying on , I won’t let you down."

Selene gave him a small nod.

"I know."

Madam Verta still looked unconvinced, but she didn’t voice her objections this ti. Instead, she simply muttered under her breath, ’This is reckless,’ before falling in line behind Selene.
