Chapter 76

"Liz! What happened?" The girl instantly bombarded the silent atmosphere around her.

She proceeded to swallow her food and let the girl in her rumblings.

"When I knocked at your dorm and asked for you—Carn answered , but then so girls behind her said sothing that you wake them up past midnight because of your nightmare," Lorna mumbled nonstop.

This girl had too much energy when she hadn’t even eaten anything yet. Well, she can’t compare herself to Lorna. She’s like a small fireball.

"Then they said also that you turned the bathroom into a freezer." She added with both hands to her waist.

lisca proceeded to drink her bowl of soup like she didn’t hear anything around.

Lorna’s eyes furrowed as she continued to stare at her friend. She did not even spare her a glance. She couldn’t compete with Liz’s appetite. She now fully understood that if Liz was eating, no one could distract her attention from her food. Her shoulders fell as she exhaled loudly and went to the counter to order her own breakfast. She was sure Liz wouldn’t be finished anyti soon.

When Lorna ca back and pulled the chair across her, sothing popped into her mind. "Do I have to wear the provided boots? Or can I use my own?"

Lorna was surprised and confused by her sudden type of question. She took a look under the table to see what she was wearing. "It’s fine." She shrugged her shoulders. "It’s still a boot. The important thing is it can protect your feet and be comfortable for your movents."

That made her smile in triumph. "Right." She mumbled in response and resud eating.

She can sense Lorna’s lingering gaze on her way. "Why? Did anyone tell you otherwise?" She nodded, glad that the girl understood it. "Who? Wait." She gestured her hand to stop her from answering, but she had no intention to answer her anyway, and her mouth was full. "Let guess. It’s Carn, right?"

She bobbed her head. Lorna snorted, and then it turned into laughter. "Why would she think not? There wasn’t any difference in it."

lisca shrugged her shoulders.

"By the way, how are you feeling?" Lorna asked a few monts later while picking her own food.

"Fine." She uttered between munching what was in her mouth. She doesn’t want to talk about it, and it never occurs in her mind to share it with anyone else. No one could know about her past. Especially people around her in this place.

And her mind wandered to Ezekiel again. Can she share it with him? She wanted to choke herself. How dare she think about it? Did she trust him already? Or was she about to? No. She was after his people. And he might hinder her plans. He might take her away or force himself on her if they et again. But she knew that they didn’t have any chance to see each other while she was underground. So, she can focus on her purpose there. No alpha king would chase him in the anti.

Lorna did not press the matter anymore. She understood that Liz didn’t want to discuss it. But she knew whatever that was, it could be hunting enough for even Liz to be affected in her dreams.

The cafeteria started to get packed for everybody’s breakfast. They finished their own hurriedly to get out of there already. Since both were all set for the morning. Lorna brought her to the training ground. She was right. The huge door below the lobby led sowhere.

When the gate opened for them, lisca forced her foot to move forward as her eyes scanned every nook and cranny in the training stadium. She wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary, but there was a huge difference from the one camp she trained at before.

There were three solid bar cages far ahead. Glass walls were hanging on top of each cage, ready to cover them anyti. Then three different barred tunnels connected to the cages, going to the other end of the stadium. And three closed tal doors were standing there.

"Where does that lead to?" She asked Lorna.

"That was where different supernatural races were being kept. Those cages were for the training with them. And that glass over there would be put down if the trainers use ABDs or any other chemical that they want to use. Oh, and ABD stands for Airborne Drug. Whenever a supernatural being got exposed to it, they would lose their super abilities. For , that’s my favorite, for it would make them less dangerous to us."

"But why didn’t you use one when we were outside?" They continue to walk to another set of stairs that leads to the platform.

"Because not all hunters were allowed to carry it. There was only a limited supply as it is very crucial to make and is hard to perfect all the ti. Lots of trials and errors and—" Lorna stopped bubbling.

lisca glanced at her. "What?" The girl even covered her mouth.

"I’m not supposed to say that."

That made lisca’s eyebrows rise. "Which part? You said a lot of things."

"The part about trials and errors."

"That’s normal in creating sothing. But then, if it’s a drug." lisca gazed at Lorna’s eye intensely. "You would have to test them on living beings. You have supernatural capture for those tests, right? The drug was for them after all." Lorna remained silent by her side. "So, if you don’t kill, you capture them for trials and experints." She continued saying what was on her mind.

Wow. How monstrous of humans. "They were captured to be tested on a drug that would kill their own kind. Wow." She smiled sarcastically. "That’s so." She contemplated what word to choose. "Brilliant." Inhumane. She’s not a fan of supernatural races, but she knew they had their own lives as well. She just hated the werewolves.

Then a thought ca to her mind when she rembered the hunters she killed in the forest. Do they want to capture her for that sa purpose? To do so tests and experints on her? What would they get from her? Is it because she was a hybrid? She’s an undiscovered territory that they wanted to touch. Her system works differently from all other races. She wasn’t even able to shift, and she was immune to their Anti-superno. Do they want to create a formula to kill her? Or so other hybrids? But every hybrid is different too. They can just cut off her head without the need to create anything.

"You think it’s brilliant?" Lorna uttered under her breath. That woke her up in her musings. "I’d rather have them killed than captured."

"Why?" She eyed her. Eager to get as every information as she can.

Lorna shrugged her shoulders and shook her head. "It’s much better that way. Less ssy."

lisca nodded her head. She was right.

The girl exhaled loudly and jumped into the center. Her mood changed into sothing bright and exciting. "This is where hunter duels take place. Hunter to hunter. It can be divided into three areas. That area at the edge" Lorna pointed to the side of the platform. "That was for newbies that lack fighting skills. Like ." She added proudly. "Good luck to later." She grumbled. "And that space there was for the junior hunters. Did Carn tell you about the three levels?" Liz nodded. "And this, at where we stand right now, is just a free space so that each team had so distance for their own teachings. This whole area." She opened her arms wide, referring to the entire platform. "Would be used entirely during tournants and competitions. We have tournants every year for the best hunter in the country and other competitions. Do you want to explain them more?"

"No. Not interested in that." She turned down the useless information.

"Oh, but there were exciting prizes." The girl whispered with wide gleeful eyes. She looked excited to share a secret. "Not just money." Lorna smacked her shoulder playfully.

She raised an eyebrow at her. Now curious about the said prizes.

Lorna pouted her lips. "But only the winner knows. Everyone was curious though."

"You don’t know it?" That was surprising that the girl didn’t know or was just pretending.

"You only hate werewolves, right?" Lorna asked instead.

lisca’s eyebrows furrowed in the instant change of subject. "Yes." And humans, the hunters specifically.

"It seed like you were not surprised anymore that there were other supernatural races aside from werewolves." It was a statent. Lorna just noticed that the woman was all cool with the kinds of stuff. Like it was nothing new to her.

Liz sighed and there was a distant look in her eyes as she stared at her face. She was still scanning the place around. "Lorna, after learning they truly exist, all the possibilities ca to my mind then. I can’t be ignorant forever so I prepared myself for such discovery. It was like, a whole different world just opened in front of . We had been living on the sa planet, but there was so much more out there." Liz looked at her then with a slight smile. "I did my own research too for what other beings could be out there. Though it was from the internet at least it gave a heads-up." She smiled sheepishly.

Lorna nodded from what she heard. It was such a thoughtful act for Liz and she did not utter any more words while the woman was still eyeing the arena.

lisca already prepared that speech if ever soone pointed it out for her. And she wasn’t mistaken, Lorna indeed noticed.
