Chapter 75

A girl sauntered to the bathroom. When she opened the door and was about to enter, she retracted her foot and shut the door imdiately. "Gosh! It’s-it’s freezing inside!" She even stuttered from the coldness and hugged herself.

Others started to gather in the bathroom also.

"Just turn on the heater from the showers." Carn grumbled as she was fixing her bed.

"It’s too cold to take a step inside. I think it’s enough to get frostbite instantly." So still complained.

lisca was done wearing her suit, but she was still in her slippers. She opened the dressing curtain and stepped out of it. She approached the girls and moved past them, who were standing outside the door, contemplating getting inside.

She opened and walked nonchalantly inside the bathroom. She quickly opened all the shower and the heater so the coldness would dissolve.

In just a minute, she got out and was ready to put on her boots. She did not mind the stares again and just did her thing.

"It’s still too early." Carn uttered to her. She was standing near the bench at the foot of her bed.

lisca glanced at the circular wall clock above the bathroom door. It’s 5:15. "Yeah." She mumbled in response. Her face remained passive and void of any emotions. She was getting the boots on her other foot. She didn’t use their provided boots, though.

Carn noticed it. "Wear the provided one." The woman comnted.

lisca glanced at her and realized that she was looking at her chosen footwear. "Why? This is still a boot anyway."

"Because it is the provided boot." Carn stated firmly, but there was a strained smile on her face.

"Was there a rule that says it wasn’t allowed?" She did not bother to look at the dorm leader. She was not even in the mood to open her mouth and talk to anyone. Much less entertaining to soone about so freaking boot issue.

"It’s standard uniform." She still pressed the matter.

It seems like the woman won’t be backing down. lisca was almost done, and no way she would take off her boots just after she put them on. She reached for her knife under the pillow and crouched down to settle it in her boot.

She could feel Carn was fuming with anger or frustration for her. It can be whatever. She doesn’t give a damn. She stood up and disregarded the woman. She opened her wardrobe to get her other knives and tucked the two on her waist and the last one to her ankle.

Carn wasn’t done with her yet. The woman stepped up to her as she was about to walk away and head to the door. Carn blocked her.

"Liz." She smiled at her, but her face was contorted and her eyes were giving away the irritation she felt inside. "As a newbie. You should really follow the standards here. Hmm?" She explained, like talking to a child, and even wiggled her eyebrows at her. The girls were blatant enough not to hide their interest in the conversation as they stopped what they were doing and watched them.

lisca t her authoritative gaze. "Do you really have to point that out? Unfortunately for you, I don’t follow any standards." She took a step closer to her and imdiately encircled her hand around the woman’s neck. Everyone gasped in shock and looked at each other, contemplating if they should get involved. She raised Carn in midair. No one then decided to intervene, as they could see how strong she was and that she could lift her in one hand.

Carn’s feet swayed, and she tried to kick her as her hands were trying to get her grip on her neck. But it was an impossible attempt for lisca’s strength. She tightened her hand as Carn’s face turned red. She made a choking sound and attempted to scratch her skin to hurt her, fighting as she could. Then tears started to escape from her eyes. She was now begging her for dear life. Begging for rcy to let her go, to survive.

lisca blinked and snorted at Carn. That added fuel to the woman’s fiery gaze at her. How she wanted to do what was on her mind. But she won’t sabotage her plans just for her uncontrolled anger. And for what? Just because of a freaking boot? What a total scandal that could be.

She can maybe choke her so other ti in so other circumstances. Maybe during training.

"There’s still a lot of ti." She uttered to the woman’s face and moved aside to continue her way. She walked faster, in case Carn grabbed her. She hoped not, or else she could really put her hand to her slim neck. It was very tempting, as necks were easy to break and would only have a single outco. Death. That’s all.

She blew out a huge breath the mont the door closed behind her. That was a close call of losing her patience. She was already pissed from the mory, and the lack of proper sleep added to her agitation. She was on the edge of her emotions. And being in this place was a constant struggle for her to bury everything down inside her. She can’t let her true self slip off her skin. She had to hold it in. It’s the only way for her to succeed.

The hallway lights were already on, but no one was around yet. As she strutted through the halls, her ears picked up so noise from each door she passed. Everyone was getting up and preparing for the day. She was indeed too early. She doesn’t mind. She actually liked it because she could roam around without anyone following her every move, except anyone from the surveillance room. There were caras around. And she noticed one too in their dorm, so that’s why they have closed curtains for dressing. And it was respectful for them not to put any caras in the bathroom.

As she stepped into the lobby, there was no one there. She sauntered to the vending machine and inserted a coin. She chose to have a hot cocoa. She liked the stillness of the mont. Waking up and going out of the dorm at this ti was sothing unexpectedly refreshing for her. She was contemplating if she should do it as a routine.

She carried the cup and looked to where she wanted to sit from all the available lounge chairs. She strutted to the one at the farthest corner of the lobby. A single chair was there with a tiny small table at the side. She snatched a newspaper from the magazine and magazine stand before settling herself. She took a sip and plopped herself down, getting comfortable from the softness of the seat. She placed her cup at the side table and crossed her legs as she started to read the headlines of the newspaper. It was a great idea that they have this kind of thing here. At least so people wouldn’t find it too boring to idle around and still have ideas about what was going on outside while they were underground.

She reached again for her cup as her eyes remained on what she was reading. She took a sip and sighed in satisfaction. She felt a little hungry though. A cup of hot chocolate would never do. She’ll have her breakfast soon. But for now, she wanted to savor the mont of being alone in the wide lobby.

Then the door opened from the receptionist area. She glanced at it, soone wasn’t familiar to her stepped to the reception desk and rummaged sothing. She returned her eyes to what she was reading and did not pay any attention around anymore.

"Holy mother of cows!" The receptionist shrieked which made lisca move her eyes in her direction again. The woman’s face was in shock, eyes wide as saucers and her hand was at her chest, lightly tapping it. "What are you doing there? It’s so freaking early!" The woman continued with an angry tone from being petrified upon seeing her.

Her voice echoes in the whole lobby. It left a ringing in her eardrums. The silence that she was savoring was completely shattered by this woman. She heaved a deep breath and just threw her a look. She did not answer her and resud what she was doing. The woman glared her way and turned around, she vanished to the door again.

After so ti, people were gradually going out of their dorms. The place wasn’t hers anymore. She glanced at the wall clock above the reception area. 6:00 am. She stood up grabbed the empty cup, she tossed it to the trash bin beside the vending machine. She returned the newspaper to the stand and she proceeded to the cafeteria to have her breakfast.

The sll of newly cooked dishes enveloped her entire senses and made her mouth water. Nothing beats food to make her feel so much better. So personnel eyed her in surprise. She imdiately sauntered to the food display counter and grabbed a tray before entering the area.

"Morning, missy." A mature woman with grayish hair greeted her. Fine wrinkles were visible on her face. This lady exudes the atmosphere of a kind grandmother.

"Morning too, ma’am." She humbly stated back.

They had a swift introduction while she was ordering. The woman kept complinting her looks and she wished that she had a daughter or granddaughter as beautiful as her. lisca didn’t find her annoying at all. It was a bit heartwarming for her. She never had a grandparent figure in her life. She never t hers anyway. Each of the parents’ sides was against their relationship. Her family wasn’t accepted by their own bloodlines. If she ever had any other relatives, she doesn’t know any of them.

She admits that she was curious to know them. But then, they ostracized them from the whole family. They pushed them away. And it won’t be different for her. They were even after her life. Her chest started to constrict from such a heavy feeling. She shook her head to sohow erase the thought anymore. Even if she grew up with her parents while they were still alive, and she took care of herself alone after being orphaned, she still had a longing for a family.

But that longing wasn’t worth anything when they were only after her to end her existence.

She moved to a table near the food counter. She doesn’t want to move far because she wants to eat already. The aroma of the food she ordered was too unbearable for her to waste another second to contemplate where to sit.

In the middle of taking her al, people started to enter the cafeteria as well. Then Lorna unexpectedly ca. She was raising a spoon to her mouth when Lorna stopped before her table.
