Chapter 43

"You’re not the only hybrid here, mate." He stated, staring straight into her eyes and roaming his gaze to every feature of her face. This was the closest he had gotten to seeing her. His breath hitched, not by her hands on his throat; it wasn’t even that tight to choke him. But from how breathtaking she is, added to that the fierceness in her golden eyes. His wolf inside was ecstatic that he couldn’t restrain his smile behind the mask.

It irks lisca that he was not even fazed by how she treats him, and he appeared amused. His twinkling eyes said it all.

"You’re like ? Then why were they not after you?" She tightened the grip on his throat. Though she had him on his neck, the way he looked down at her due to his towering height was like a king to a commoner.

"Hybrids between supernatural beings were more common than you think. However, my story was different. I can tell you when you join ."

"Never!" She exclaid and jumped into a retreat, distancing herself from him. She can’t continue touching him, for it was only drawing her more to the pull.

"I’m your mate, lisca. I can never dare to hurt you in any way." Zek can only watch her from a distance. If he attempts to co near her, she might hurt herself again.

lisca avoided his eyes. He might compel her. She would never let that happen. ’lisca.’. He called her by na. It sounds so perfect in her ears.

"I’m not officially your mate yet." She shook her head. Her wolf was hurting from the longing for him, but she forced her mind to take over the emotions. "I’m half human, so I don’t really need one. Sa as you. You’re half-vampire. You can choose not to follow the nature of a wolf." She reasoned.

Ezekiel shook his head. "I’m not just an alpha." He wanted to look at her straight in the eye to get his point across. But she’s not even facing him anymore despite the gap between them. "I’m the king to my people."

She inwardly groaned. He really was the king she heard from Lorna’s call. What terrible luck she got. A king as a mate that she doesn’t even need. What a total opposite they were. He was bound to protect, and she was out to kill. A chuckle slipped out from her throat. Fate’s really fucking ! She rubbed a hand to her temple.

"Let help you, lisca."

Her fists clenched. She hated how her na sounded like a piece of comforting music to her whenever he spoke of it.

With great resolve to drown her wolf instinct, she let go of her super senses. She can’t hear his heartbeat anymore or any other sound from quite a distance. Her vision of the surroundings turned dim as only the light of the moon above was able to cloud them. She also felt her armor of strength withdrew from her skin to her system. Her eyes turned obsidian once again, along with being human.

"You can’t help . You won’t be able to give what I want. The lives of those people who were under you."

Ezekiel felt the change in her aura. She felt more human now. "Who among my people killed your parents? Tell ."

"Why? Will you offer them to ?" She retorted quickly. She’s thankful that she can still hear him clearly. The night was so quiet to her ears. Terror was slowly creeping up to her skin for she didn’t know what was happening exactly around them. There could be wolves waiting for her in the shadows nearby. Having her wolf senses shut down in her current situation and at the present place, was making her anxious. But she thought the most dangerous threat was the man before her. She doesn’t even know his na.

Ezekiel couldn’t easily give up his people. He had sothing urgent to ask. "Do you have another na?"

That made her turn her head again in his direction. "You already have my na." Disappointnt enveloped her heart. So, he wouldn’t give his people up. Of course, what does she expect? That he would just hand them to a killer? She might be his mate but duty cos first for a king. But she was part wolf too, he should listen to her interest also.

"Aren’t you Calicia Wyrs?" Zek wanted her to admit it so that his confusion would lessen. Now, saying that na through his lips felt strange.

"I’m lisca Lorwey." Her quick response. Didn’t care who he was referring to. Their encounter was turning to nothing. She wanted to end their eting.

She was tempted to stay inside the cabin to spend the night but the risk was too great for her. Especially knowing wolves were running under the full moon. She took a glance in his direction, can felt his eyes burning at her. She was only seeing shadows of his masked face for the moon was behind him. With her human eyesight, she couldn’t clearly see his eyes, even the vibrant red of it earlier was too dark for her to recognize now. He should be in his wolf form. The influence of the moon would make them shift. But he seed totally under control. Perks of being a half vampire maybe.

"I don’t care whoever you are." His voice was low but full of indignation.

She halted on her way to make a step.

"Be with , lisca."

Tempting. Very tempting. But, no. She wouldn’t be able to exact her sches if she accepted him. Aside from that, she could complicate his position and might bring danger to him. And despite saying that he would protect her, would he really be able to?

Wait, sothing’s amiss. She turned around and walked in his direction with a loud thud in her heart for what she was about to ask. Fists clenching to her sides as she t the man’s gaze head-on, stopping before him. Her breath was caught in midair as she was about to open her mouth.

His burning eyes with the yellow crescent moon and blood-red pupils were gone. She was now seeing an erald green that shone through his white complexion. It was like looking at a field of vibrant grass that you would like to roll around or just lay on it to relax and feel the essence of the earth. It was very refreshing.

Zek let her stare at him. He composed himself while waiting for her to say what was on her mind. How he wanted to just grab her.

It was only his eyes, what more if she saw his entire features? lisca blinked, feeling like she was in a trance. He doesn’t even need to compel her to be captivated by him. Get a grip, lisca! She chided herself inwardly. Looking up at him, she proceeded with her thoughts. "Being their king, do you know that those people were after my family? Do you know about my existence before?"

"No." Zek shook his head lightly as he tilted his face down. Her eyes were so dark that they even shone under the moon, he could see his own reflection from them. "I didn’t know about you. Not until I saw you at that police station." Her reddish lips were tempting him. He wanted to have a taste. He knows she was his to take but she seed to not understand their wolfish nature completely. And it was like she was not influenced by it. The ruby ring on his finger was minimizing his full aura as a king. If he took it off, can it make her succumb to him? But that would be too much for her. She would hate him for it.

She was disappointed but relieved at the sa ti. Relieved that he was innocent of her parent’s death but upset that he didn’t know what his people did. Nodding to his answer, she took her gaze from him and retreated.

Ezekiel reached out to her and held her arm, that made her face him again. They were closer than before. He raised his other hand and caressed her cheeks. Both flinched from the electrifying contact. "Please stop this. You’re in grave danger. I can’t take it if you’re hurt. I just want to protect you." He stated, looking deeply into her obsidian eyes. It was such a cold, dark, bottomless pit. But that hole was sucking him in, drawing him to that dark abyss. He can divulge himself in that hollow, for he is a being of the night. That black hole was for him. She was for him.

"I can protect myself." Her energy was quickly running out. He was draining it. She held his wrist and pushed his hand away from her face. She was thankful that he had a mask on.

"You don’t know how dangerous it is out there." His teeth gritting. He was getting frustrated by her stubbornness. He let her free from his grasp. God! If he touched her one more ti, it would be much harder to restrain himself to make her submit. "You are my Luna, my fated queen. You ought to be by my side."

lisca was perplexed by that statent. "We were passed that era. Unfortunately for you, I am not a damsel in distress who needed your protection every ti and had to be pampered like royalty. You can’t just snatch away in my life mission. I am a huntress. I hunt humans and your people." At that, her eyes shifted to a wolf and opened all her senses as she planned to take her leave.
