Lydia was laying down on the bed, seeming lethargic. She was yet to change out of her nightwear and brush her hair. There was a book in her hand.

This was the first ti Violet had seen her in such a disarrayed state.

She hurried over, placing the plate of food on the table and sat down on the bed. Concerned, she asked, "Are you alright, Lydia?"

Then, on the bare parts of her neck, Violet noticed the small red marks, and her cheeks heated up.

Lydia followed her gaze and brought her hair forward to cover them. She responded, "I will live."

"Did you and Lucas sleep together?" Violet questioned, curiously.

Lydia knew there was no use lying.

"It happened. Even I can be in a fuzzy mind and make mistakes."

"Why would you sleep with Lucas?" Violet mumbled, furrowing her brows. Lucas was a playboy, who was wrapped up in different won’s sheets everyday.

Why would soone as respectful as Lydia even sleep with him?

"Do you like Lucas, Lydia?" Violet asked, thinking that was the only reasonable explanation.

Lydia scoffed. "Have I lost it? Don’t think too much."

Violet then slowly but carefully asked, "Could he be your mate?"

Thinking that idea was absurd, Violet imdiately backtracked and chuckled.

"Now, that can’t be it. Why would he be so rude to you if you were his mate? This doesn’t sound— wait, don’t tell I hit the spot?"

Violet let out a gasp, noticing how Lydia’s face paused for a second.

"You’re being annoying here. Leave alone for now," Lydia stated, about to enter under her blanket.

But before she could do so, Violet grabbed her shoulders and raised her.

"That can’t be it, right? Why would fate pair soone as perfect as you with a jerk like Lucas? You deserve to have a considerate and mature gentleman who will treat you right and put you above everything else," Violet expressed woefully, as though it was her who got paired with soone unfortunate.

The colorful array of emotions on Violet’s face, especially the heartbreak, made Lydia feel funny. The heaviness that weighed down on her chest seed to be lifted a little.

"You are the one Lucas treasures the most, and you are here, choosing everyone but him. He will be quite heartbroken, especially since you’re siding with soone who he finds most detestable," Lydia expressed.

Although she tried to keep her tone nonchalant, Violet couldn’t ignore the self-depreciating undertones.

Violet struck out her tongue.

"Hmph, that doofus, he doesn’t know how to appreciate what is good for him. If you were my mate, Lydia, I would put you at the tip of my heart and treat you so well. Watch teach Lucas a lesson," Violet said, pumping up her fist.

Violet found it distasteful how Lucas had a mate yet he went around, sleeping with all the won around the world.

Lydia sighed. "He doesn’t know."

Violet was taken off guard. "How can he not know? Has Lucas been sleeping around with so many won he doesn’t know how to sense his mate?"

Violet scrunched up her nose.

Lydia shook her head. "He is not the one to bla. I am the one hiding the connection. I have a way to do it."

Although Lydia attempted to be casual, Violet could see the despondency in her eyes.

"Why would you do that? Isn’t it painful?" Violet lowered her gaze.

She couldn’t imagine what pain Lydia was going through to hide the bond all to herself. For her to not even confide to Lucas ant she had no trust in this bond.

"He doesn’t want it," Lydia expressed.

Her mories went back to the day she found out about the bond between Lucas and her. Back then, she just hit eighteen and wanted to et her mate badly.

Because Lucas was a couple days younger than her, he didn’t yet feel the bond. Although Lucas and Lydia had small altercations between them back then, they were all friendly, nothing full of tension like now.

However, before she could excitedly let him know about their connection, Lydia was t with the rumors of how he slept with another mbers of the pack. The matter turned out to be quite a scandal.

And then, standing behind the wall, her heart broke upon hearing the cruel words from his mouth.

"My mate?" Lucas laughed. "Don’t let her co in front of and ruin my mood. Do you think one woman can really control ? That is just pathetic!"

Violet extended her hands and pulled Lydia into a tight hug. Violet’s eyes watered up. Violet could only imagine the pain Lydia had gone through all these years.

The bond between them was still intact, and the fact that Lydia could only feel it must be so agonizing.

"Lucas is a bastard. I am sure he will regret it all one day. And then when he cos crying for you, you are going to ignore him entirely," Violet expressed.

"What an idiot. Why are you being sad on my behalf? I don’t even feel anything. I am glad I don’t have to deal with that nuisance being my mate," Lydia comnted.

Violet pulled her away from the hug and said, "Peter said he is glad I could uplift your spirits. But I think I hardly did anything. That is why, if there is anything I can do to make you happy, I will do it."

Lydia frowned. "Peter told you everything?"

Violet tilted her head. "Well, a little. I am waiting for you to tell the rest."

"And you’re not upset with ? I am unable to practice dicine due to malpracticing. You have full right to be mad at for treating you like an experintal subject," Lydia pointed out.

Violet shook her head.

"Lucas, you, and Alpha— three of you are sa. How do you expect to hold any grudges against you after all you did for ? I couldn’t be grateful enough," Violet sincerely expressed.
