Chapter 187: After the Ga
"Thank you for the match!"
After everyone bowed at each other and shook the referee’s hands, they all went back to their respective bench, with all the Hakodate Nishi players going straight to Kumiko’s direction. There, they saw all the players who were replaced earlier were waiting for them, so offering a bottle of water while the others just high-fived their teammates.
"Good job, everyone. Now, just sit there and take a breath first." Kumiko praised them all without hesitation. "No critique needed for this match, you all have done a fantastic job! No mistakes or even sloppy movent to underestimate your opponent, just a clean win as we hope for. This is definitely the best way to start our journey."
The others smiled at each other, yet they were not that ecstatic about this. The opponent was too weak, so it was normal that they were still composed after this win.
"Senpai," Kenji suddenly raised his hand, smiling mischievously. "Does the praise also include Higo-senpai? I an, what did he do today?"
All eyes suddenly turned to Higo, and the boy himself was taken aback for a mont before smiling wryly at that boy. "Don’t try to sow discord between Kumiko-chan and , okay? Our relationship is good! Also, can you bla
for not doing anything when there is nothing I can do?"
This elicited laughter from the others, clearly happy with his praise as well.
"I say, though, Ryukkun’s presence on the back is crucial to make you all feel at ease." Kumiko smiled. "Without him, Makino-kun and Jun-kun would never dare venture far, afraid of any quick counterattack. But with Ryukkun on the back, they know that even without them, the goal would still be protected well enough, and it is a credit to Ryukkun here."
Makino looked like he was swallowing a whole sour lemon here, not liking the fact that he had to be the one who was used as an example to show how great Higo was. Well, he couldn’t deny it, though, as the boy indeed felt that Higo’s presence on the back was huge, giving reassurance that everything would be okay.
Jun also gave the goalkeeper a thumbs-up, showing his appreciation.
Higo accepted them all with a polite smile, yet he was also ecstatic inwardly. Being a goalkeeper was a lonely job, since he didn’t get involved in a lot of plays. So, it was always good to be appreciated like this, even though he really didn’t do anything worth ntioning for the ga.
"Another credit, though, to two players who I saw did an incredible job today," Kumiko added with a mysterious smile. "The first one is for Sano, for his composed presence on the back. Even though he was only on the pitch for 30 minutes, his calmness under pressure and his quick integration into the team allowed us to run the ga smoothly. For that, let’s give him a round of applause!"
The tough-looking boy was startled when he heard his na ntioned. The polite applause also made his face flush red in embarrassnt. This was probably the first ti he got this kind of response, and honestly, he didn’t know how to deal with it.
However, at Kumiko’s gentle encouragent, the boy stood solemnly, bowing slightly at the others and said, "Thank you, everyone. I will try to give my best whenever I have a chance to play."
The others just twitched the corner of their lips speechlessly, with Makino slapping the boy’s back quite loudly. "Why are you so formal and polite like that, Brat?! You are our teammate! Our friend! Don’t make things weird!"
Sohow, this only turned the boy’s eyes red, so Kumiko had to take over imdiately before he could get too emotional.
"The second credit, though, is our man of the match today..." She trailed her voice behind with the sa smile on her face. "Oh, well, you know without
announcing it, right? Well, let’s give our biggest applause to our best playmaker, the one with three assists and who constantly made threats to the opponent’s side, Hiroshi-kun!"
As the applause echoed there, Hiroshi also rose from his spot, smiling so smugly at his teammates. Well, he deserved to get a credit here, since his performance was indeed the best.
Not counting the three assists he made, just him standing on the pitch was enough to attract two or three of the opponent’s defenders to co to his side, and once the ball was on his feet, it was magical.
"So, this is the first ti I announce it..." Kumiko suddenly added, interrupting their cheers right now. "This is the agreent that I made with the headmaster. After every ga we played, I will have a one-week free ticket to enjoy all the food in the canteen for himself, and the first one to get this voucher is Hiroshi-kun! Let’s give him another round of applause!"
Instead of applause, though, everyone was stunned at the sudden announcent. This was definitely the first ti, and the football club was also definitely the only one that got this princess treatnt.
Still, when they realized that it was Hiroshi who got it...
"Fuck it, Hiroshi! Get
one of your seven days free!"
"Yeah,
as well! I don’t mind even if it is Friday!"
"Hey, don’t push around like that! I am his friend first and foremost, so I should get one here!"
Everyone turned into a bunch of sharks when slling blood in the sea, going into frenzy like there was no tomorrow. Hiroshi himself was overwheld with the situation, couldn’t do anything due to the bloodshot glares from his teammates.
Fortunately, Kumiko took over the situation before everything succumbed to chaos here.
"Well, unfortunately, the voucher only works for one person I chose, so if you want to have one, get your man of the match award, okay?" She asked with a smile. This ti, though, the dangerous aura was back surrounding her, enough to make them all back down instantly.
"Okay, so, now that we have already talked about everything, let’s wrap it up!" The girl clapped loudly, glancing at the audience who hadn’t left the pitch yet. "Before we go back ho, let’s show our appreciation to the fans first! Co on!"
