As the night turned to day and the air was filled with the sll of gunpowder, Shinon woke up. He was still tired afterr yesterday’s shenanigans, but like Miro instructed, he didn’t want to act suspiciously.
That ant he had to sacrifice his sleep, get up like the rest of the workers, and get to work. But as he did, his talk with Miro last night stuck to him.
He was still having a tough ti believing that his father was alive and in the very sa city that he was. Still, the distance they shared wasn’t sothing he could easily conquer.
After all, Caleb was the most important man in the city, and there was no way soone like Shinon would even get an opportunity to et him face-to-face. The Eclipse would make sure of it.
Thankfully, Miro had a plan. Every quarter of a year, Caleb hosted a party on his premises. This was the only party commoners with extraordinary abilities from various fields were invited and got an opportunity to interact with the mayor.
Luckily or unluckily, the celebration was just a week away, and the blacksmiths were yet to get an invite. This ant that if Shinon could accomplish sothing big within a week, he would naturally be invited there, and then he could try and find so answers from there onwards.
While others were sure Masterbuilder would get the invite by default, the entry tickets were up for grabs for everyone. Besides, Masterbuilder was already close to the mayor, so he wouldn’t even need an invite in the first place.
"Need to create sothing extraordinary..." Shinon mumbled to himself as he headed to hit the showers.
As he made his way there, he was hit by a moral dilemma. If he were to build sothing like a weapon, it would boost his chances of getting an invite.
But whatever he made would end up in the hands of the Eclipse, and that ant he would be helping a terrorist organisation to cause more chaos.
On the other hand, if he created sothing other than weapons, it would severely impact his chances of winning the ticket and missing out on eting with his father.
Shinon internally debated with his conscience, and no matter what he did, he couldn’t co up with an answer. Thankfully, he didn’t have to think for long because as soon as he was out of the showers, he noticed a couple of guards waiting for him, along with Masterbuilder and Miro.
"Is sothing the matter?" Shinon asked them as the guards approached him.
"Where were you last night?" one of the guards interrogated.
"I was asleep until I heard the sirens and walked out along with Mr Miro when the horde attacked the city," Shinon casually and calmly replied. "Is sothing wrong?"
The other guard stared at Shinon with sceptical eyes before interrupting, "When did you retire to your room?"
"Frankly speaking, I have no clue," Shinon shrugged. "Yesterday was a bit draining, and I hit the hay when I was done with my assigned work. After wandering in the city for months, it was the first ti I got a bed to sleep in, and in that excitent, I didn’t check the ti properly."
The guards kept staring at Shinon but ultimately dropped the suspicions and took their leave without giving an explanation for their strange visit. But Shinon already knew very well why the guards were there.
Since Shinon was new there and the mayor was attacked on the sa day, they might have suspected it was the work of soone new to the city. That’s why the guards wanted to know about his whereabouts when Caleb was ’attacked’.
Unfortunately for them, Aahan had already been inford about their usual tactics by Miro and was prepared to deal with whatever the guards had to throw his way.
"What are you all staring at?" Miro yelled at everyone. "Back to work! Those orders won’t make themselves, and you, New Guy, co with . We have things to discuss."
Shinon nodded and followed Miro while the others laughed at him as he headed towards Miro’s office.
He didn’t have a lot of fans there, especially since he had gotten a few others kicked out of the factory because they were either too slow or couldn’t compete with Shinon. Either way, Shinon entered Miro’s office.
"You did good out there," Miro nodded before offering Shinon a seat. "That said, I didn’t think they’d be this quick. It almost feels like-"
"Soone inford them about ," Shinon completed Miro’s words.
"As much as I want to deny it, that seems to be the case," Miro shook his head in disappointnt. "Your arrival has caused quite an uproar. It doesn’t surprise if so simply want to cause trouble for you."
While they talked, Shinon got up and walked to the window overlooking the forge below. While most of them were busy with work, so guys kept staring towards the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of Shinon being reprimanded.
"I don’t think it was the work of one guy," Shinon mumbled as he saw a group of workers smiling and pointing at the window. "But don’t worry
about them. Instead, I’m here to know your answer."
Shinon returned to his seat and said, "Why are you helping ? After all, I am but a stranger to you, even if you knew my father."
"Why did I help you?" Miro smiled wanly. "Well, there’s a straightforward answer and an emotional one. Which would you like to hear first?"
"The real reason," Shinon replied.
"Straight to the point, just like your father. Fine then, I shall respect your choice," Miro said as he retrieved an envelope from his desk, which he handed to Shinon. "I hope you recognise your father’s handwriting?"
Shinon raised an eyebrow as he accepted the letter while Miro continued. "I received this letter a couple of days before you arrived here. Caleb wants to help him get out of the city, and the way I see it, you’ll be perfect for the job."
